  1. "I'm sure a first aid kit will be useless when chainsaws are involved" "Yeah stihl vs husky and what make bar chain combo . Not how to not die that goes without saying lol it like saying don't go racing without a spine board lol" Don't quite get you there?
  2. Personal first aid kit with a T4 Trauma Bandage easily accessible on me at all times. Whistle on my braces, other staff members notified of me carrying out the work. Area coned and taped off with signage. Risk assessments and method statement just like any other job. Chainsaw boots, trousers, helmet, gloves and suitable clothing depending on temperature. Worktop for saws with vice for sharpening and all tools laid out before starting. Makes for a far more enjoyable and relaxed day at the office.
  3. @Woodcrafter I process the windblown trees/takedowns on the estate and I carve/mill what I fancy and they become installations within the grounds. Everyones a winner baby. Also do a few bits and bobs for charity during the year. Not got time for commissions (I have plenty of requests), My main focus is keeping my timber stacks manageable so if I get a few nice things out of a tree i'm happy. Also I am a bit of a hoarder and like to keep and look at the things I make, gives a nice feeling of satisfaction. I've got estates to manage so it is more of a hobby when I'm up to date with all the other jobs. @Hams25 The 660 is ideal for blocking out (that's getting the big chunks cut out before using a wee saw for detail). Make sure you have a good first aid kit and it's very handy to get the small eyewash tubes as you will get sprayed by chip depending how you are holding the saw.
  4. Start by wearing chainsaw trousers!. kickback should be minimised due to the smaller radius of the kickback zone at the tip of the bar. Chainsaw carving could be classed as more dangerous due to the positions that you find yourself in, e.g. cutting above chest height. compared to standard snedding and crosscutting. These can be reduced as well with repositioning the work piece and ensuring that the work pieces are not going to move on you during carving. Would love to know who these people you talk of are. Personally I'm not interested in the whole carving competition style of working. I like to take my time and manoeuvre the work pieces into comfortable positions. I have made a few work tables for various project sizes which hold the pieces. I get paid for my carvings as part of my job so I don't have any need to finish quickly to chase the next commission. I don't do the foot on one end of the mushroom while narrowly missing the other type carves these days! Have a go.
  5. Could forget about the hitch cord and use 3 knot system. But at this rate the order isn't going to qualify for free delivery.
  6. Stihl MS150 backhandle. No need to change bars, sprockets etc. You can do plenty of stuff with the standard bar and chain and is very light. If you find you like carving and need super detail you can then upgrade to carving bars, either way you will have a belter of a wee saw.
  7. tidy up your "prunings" and stick them in the ground as well, you will be fine.
  8. Just had that proof read and painting it black and having the burning not lasting is digging me a bigger hole. I'm going to try highlighting with dark green gloss this year on the trees just to for a change. I'll get some pics up when I get round to them as still got Halloween stuff to finish.
  9. Good one Mr Archer !! Forgot to add Woodcrafter that yours don't look like said sex aids. Instead of burning these days I am thinning down black gloss paint and using that instead of the blowtorch. I feel the burning doesn't last that long.
  10. The secrets not to make them look like giant butt plugs. (So I have been told by customers!)
  11. A wee update on these ear defenders. Been really impressed with these this year, I have had to put a bit of gaffer tape on the head band as the seam has recently split but for the amount of use and abuse they have been getting I can't complain. The MP3 attachment has actually been OK. Using on the ride on has been OK as well and certainly makes the day a wee bit more bearable. Obviously no good for climbing but for landscaping duties, woodwork, carving or just to keep your ears warm they have been well worth the £30 quid.
  12. Probably better them going out early as I do hate having to shout for whoever they are playing.
  13. Are you accidentally knocking the choke switch?, easily done.
  14. Hour and a half long, That's getting recorded as I'm ready for nodding off. Thanks for the heads up.
  15. Throwline chucked where I want it first time, especially with people watching. Good start to a day!
  16. IMO it's worth it Steve and as I have said before grateful for your time, money and perseverance in setting Arbsafe up. I hope I will never be in the position. I find it bizzare that members on here would not use it. Free, confidential and maybe just maybe you might get your tools returned and some scrote might get their knuckles wrapped. If you have no faith in the justice system at least you would know who it is, not that I'm condoning any medieval vigilante stuff!
  17. Yeah I thought that was a POV style pic.
  18. You recon he will come back and save them Mr. Eggs? I don't think he is even interested in British politics anymore. He's with International rescue, that's Thunderbirds material.
  19. Tried to stay out of this thread. As for the OP. IMO Corbyn was the best candidate out of the 4 up for election. If he shakes things up a bit and gets more people involved/ opinionated then that can only be a good thing. Glad that several of the old shadow cabinet resigned as well. Not going to vote for him mind.
  20. Seriously, first Corbyn gets slated for not singing God save the Queen, The PM is in a bit of bother for allegedly skulling a pig in his yoof and your calling for an MSP to loose his job over banter on a football forum using a word that is used everyday in the West of Scotland by both supporters, Jeez. (I'm not going to use the J C word because I will probably be forced to crucify myself lol.)
  21. Higher chance of kickback with the ripping chain, mine come with instructions for strictly milling only. Have had a go free hand planking but feel more comfortable with the mill. It's just another faff having to switch back to a standard chain as well on some projects which would probably take longer than going steady with a standard chain. But the main issue for your project would be higher risk of kickback especially with the work positions you will probably find yourself in. IME.
  22. Probably alot of part time niche jobs to keep me interested/amused like F1 circuit designer, Owner of a tandoori restaurant, Quality tester for walkers sensation sweet chilli crisps, Inventor of silly plastic things that end up being global successes and are found worn by tribes in the middle of the amazon. As well as dabling in the usual hitman/equaliser/man from delmonte/casting couch interviewer combo.
