1. I'm just the same - sweat for Britain just as soon as warm day threatens! lol There must be some kind of climber's drink jacket with a straw just full of drink compartments. It's making me sweat just thinking about it!
2. Lloyds/TSB (5% interest!) let me extend my mortgage period - same monthly payments, just adding 5 years onto my mortgage repayment date - so that I could buy a good chipper.
3. No, never with a saw - a few nicks with a Silky though! But when you are new to running your own business you take (probably unnecessary) risks when you under quote and find you've got too big a job on for the time/money you agreed and you race! There but for the grace of God...
4. Sounds like a good work opportunity so...eh, forgive the ignorance but, what is forwarding anyway?
5. Great looking moves Mark. I bet that takes a lot of skill. I did a one day canoeing taster when I was a teen but had a bad roll-over experience and never tried again. These days I kayak-fish off cornwall - Zennon is awesome when you have to dodge the huge basking sharks that gather there in the summer months. I like to land a few pollack and barbecue them then and there!
6. Was recently about 89 pence/litre in Cornwall. I buy it (fill up) self-service in 25 litre drums:thumbup1:
7. I'm interested, experienced and based near Launceston. I have all the tickets and own transport(own chipper as well!). Post me if I can help.
8. Nice Info Guys. This thread is quite subtle IMO. Since posting this thread I have looked at several tree recognition books and the amount of information/level of detail needed to make a Tree ID is high!
9. Apparently (Google!), the Fir has flat needles. So if you pull one off and try and roll it between finger and thumb it becomes immediately obvious. Therefore I've decided I must have a Fir branch in front of me and not a Spruce. Thanks for the Field Guide tip. You can't have too many good books, but it's also good to know that there is considerable knowledge out there.
10. Hi Guys. This may be obvious to some(or many) can anyone tell me the difference between a Fir and a Spruce. I'm trying to ID a conifer using my Collins Tree Guide but not having much luck. I must have overlooked the obvious...!
11. Nice work boys! Just out of interest, how many hours did you get out of the old bearings? I've got a 2004 Timberwolf 150 with 385 hours and it's still going strong...!
12. Also, I've got a full UK driving licence and qualified in First-Aid; MEWP and chipper certification. I'm keen to get my UA tickets too.
13. Hi James. I'm Based in Cornwall and certainly interested. What is the going rate for a person with a year's experience as an NPTC (CS31/32/38/39/40) qualified climber?
14. I should have said - as I can't vouch for myself - you can check my references on my Facebook page if you post me.
15. Hi Guys. Anyone need a climber/groundie? I'm based near Launceston (Devon/Cornwall border). I've got some free days coming up towards the end of March. I'm a very hard worker - even if I say so myself! I've got my own PPE, all tickets, saws and climbing equipment. I've even got a chipper. I can reach most of Devon and Cornwall - at a pinch. I charge £175/day.
16.
Hi Mark. I'm a Launceston-based Tree surgeon who is interested....What's your day rate?

17.
Hi. What's your pay rate? I'm actually based near Launceston if that's any help.

18. Provided it isn't initial training to get you into the industry when you can't claim it as an expense.
19. In fact I get excited just thinking about it all - and I'm becoming/become a boring middle-aged parent/family man. So if you want to see and experience mind blowing then keep your eyes and ears open in Cornwall....?
20. So you live in Cornwall like I do. Then you could do most (if not all?) of the above near home! I like to go kayak fishing off Sennen Cove with a mate or two. Then bring my catch back to mates/family and barbecue it. Have a sing-song or whatever. Then camp out on(or above at campsite) the beech. The next day go fishing again or paddle out to watch and be around some massive basking sharks - awesome! There is no end to what you can do in Cornwall. And no, I don't work for the Cornish Tourist Board. Walk the fantastic coastline and spot the dive-bombing gannets/sharks. On a hot day it seems like you're in the Mediterranean!! You can't beat it!
21. Surely there must be some book evidence to back this up. I can't find any reference to Beech tree pruning don'ts. It does sound like Bull! Is this something we have to accept from an official or can we challenge it?
