  1. Great job! Just curious. I spoke to a tree officer today who said that Beech trees don't respond well to thinning, crown-lifts/reductions etc which I hadn't heard before - has anyone else?
  2. I've done 6 quotes in the last 4 weeks. Two have morphed into work but the other 4 have hit a brick wall. It's not a good quote/work accepted ratio and so - yeh - I have to ask myself how I can improve things. Thanks for the advice Guys. It always helps to hear what others are doing.
  3. Forgive the ignorance - I only started my business recently - but does anyone have any good tips for successive quotes that you do that are being ignored even though you know them to be good competative quotes? Is there anyway to prompt a customer without crossing the no-obligation rule?
  4. My sister was telling me about when her daughter aged 4 was asked what she thought of her new (baby) brother? "Send him back!" she quickly replied. Everyone was rolling around after that.
  5. Hi WorcWuss. Give us a call 07840761566. I can visit Fowey Sunday or Tuesday...! Where exactly was it again...?
  6. My Mum's beagle once stole the (supper) sausages out of the fridge! As much as we love beagles, that was the end of the beagle. It went the next day!
  7. Here's my number: 07840761566. When does the client want the job doing?
  8. Access alone makes it sound like a potentially tricky job. I'd chip rather than burn. I'm interested.
  9. Where exactly are you in Devon? Dougy Bennetts (DS Bennetts - Tavistock) is the place to get your chipper/chainsaw serviced IMO. And they sell all things for climbing....:
  10. Yeh, I heard that. Thanks. You've helped me make my mind up. I'll borrow a mate's copy. And It won't cost me a penny!
  11. Half the price. A book in the hand is worth half the price. You must have been thinking of that famous quote about George Bush: "A bird in the hand is worth twice that in George Bush." And we saw where that ended!
  12. I've heard it's due back in print this/next year.
  13. I'd be interested. What would you consider a reasonable price? It was retailed at £38 when in print. I would say second hand about £18. Pm:001_smile:
  14. That's an interesting pic. What exactly am I looking at and when did you do the pruning?
  15. Best not to prune Maples in February then I guess.
  16. Hi guys - any Maple experts out there? I've just been asked by a customer to prune some of their Acers. Now, while most of us have heard that you shouldn't prune a cherry/plum tree until May time - apparently (according to George E Brown) you shouldn't prune Maples during late winter/spring-time because they will bleed sap! How real is this? Any help would be much appreciated.
  17. I think i'll give the NFU a call next time then. Thanks.
  18. Sorry to alter this thread slightly, but, does anyone know of an insurance firm that doesn't charge an extra 25% premium to cover a winch modified truck? Incidently, my ranger is fitted with a Superwinch 3000 and it does the business:001_smile:.
  19. I thought for a second I had missed something here. According to the Insurers Arborisk etc you don't need employers liability, indeed, I quote 'Can't get employers liability if you get sub contractors in and use them under your instruction. See Insurance in the search heading above.
  20. Forgive the question for those in the know but...why does a Sole-trader who gets subies in occasionally need employers liability unless they are used frequently?
  21. Use some kind of fire retardant material on all logs. That should keep em going a bit longer:001_tt2:
  22. That's not a free domain name. How much did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking?
  23. I've Googled you and you came up top of the list! That is truly impressive. Have you paid Google any money to enhance the search process?
