  1. You've got it! After pulling the starter cord it fires you then blip the throttle lever but the choke lever stays where it is and so the engine dies and you have to manually reset the choke lever and pull again! I can't think where to or how the spring could have sprung off though!
  2. OK sure I meant the spring-loaded throttle-link thing. My choke lever stays rigidly wherever you set it regardless of the throttle squeeze - if that makes sense?
  3. Hi guys - I've got a Husqavarna XP 560 and the red choke lever sticks on when I start the saw from cold and can't be blipped off with the throttle lever. Can anyone think what may be causing this(it did receive a big knock a while back which may have done something!?)? I've tried copious amounts of WD40 and also 3 in one oil but to no avail. It's not really a big deal just annoying for what is otherwise a good punchy ground saw!
  4. Yeh and they probably thought we were the contracted clear up tree-surgeons rather than two off-duty ones trying to get home:lol:!
  5. Great pics guys. I had a surprise on coming home from work on Friday to find the road ahead entirely blocked by a 35ft Cypress that had seconds before fallen on a Waitrose truck. Luckily the driver was unharmed! So I went to help clear up and a Hi-Line guy handed me a chainsaw. Together with a few other guys (stranded car drivers) we had the road cleared in about ten minutes flat! Sorry guys I didn't have time to take any pics - the usually quiet country road had a ten car tail back each way of impatient drivers.
  6. Fab vid guys! Do you think it would work as well on a connie if you have to keep moving it up the tree? I'm dismantling a 45ft Lawsons tomorrow and a zip-line is one option. What are your thoughts?
  7. Still, back to the main reason for posting this thread....today's customer has a front garden tree (inherited not planted herself) that has the potential to reach 30m!
  8. Is it? Maybe not relevant, but our Virginia Creeper is very red this year which I put down to the long hot summer!
  9. Yeh, Acer Sacharrinum is the closest I can get. However the Collins Tree Guide describes silver leaves changing to yellow, red brown in the autumn. So how come it has mostly green leaves in October? Unless it is a variant.
  10. Both good guesses guys. It isn't fair of me to post a pic of only the leaves! I'll stick with Silver Maple for now though. It seems strange that it has two different leaf shapes - the red one is a juvenille leaf?
  11. Hi Guys. Here's a tree ID question for you: I was pruning an Acer today but couldn't identify the sub species. The closest ID I could manage was a Cut-Leaved Silver Maple - using my fab Collins Tree Guide. The tree in question was a lovely 25ft specimen in a small residential front garden and the neighbour has continually complained about any/all overhanging branches. I advised the tree owner/customer that the tree was inappropriate for its location as it would grow to 40/50 ft in time. Of course I could really only guess at how big it might become. 'Stog/epi' evidence proves that this isn't its first pruning either! I didn't have my camera with me but took these two leaves from the same tree home:001_smile:
  12. As I'm new to arboriculture and only do the occasional low-level weekend job surely it isn't worth having full public liability ins' and my chipper is only a second-hand Timberwolf?!
  13. Hi Guys, does anyone know of an insurance company that will insure a chipper (Timberwolf 150) without public liability insurance? I've already tried the usual arborist (Arborisk/TSI etc) insurers to no avail?!
  14. Any ex-submariners out there? I served 7 1/2 years on SSNs: Turbulent, Torbay and Triumph. Been out nearly 20 years now and loving the tree surgery! It takes all kinds I guess!!
  15. Hi Guys. I've been asked to do Leylandii trim job in Chorleywood next month. Does anyone know of a chip tip-site nearby?
  16. If by Pro Climber you mean Andy Lewis in Abergorlech, South Wales, I can highly recommend them! They'll give you all the support you need to get you through their Fast-Track course and out into a good arb job quicker than you can say JR. I'm speaking from personal experience:thumbup:?!
  17. I keep getting TPO jobs which I would usually pass on to someone else if I've got other work, but right now I'm thinking of changing that around.
  18. Ditto! I'm lucky to get a day a week at mo.
  19. OK, so you may need to get plugged into the groundie's chilled soft drink supply before going aloft. What's not to like? It may need a little more thought though before it's up and running...!lol
  20. Good thread guys. I still think a chilled drink jacket would keep your bod cool whilst supplying a continuous supply of the much needed fluid!
  21. Mum's the word. We won't mention a word of this to anyone else...damn, too late! I think they might be on to us already!lol
  22. Brilliant! When do we organise the Patent?lol
  23. Maybe, between us, we could patent some new super hydration jacket. But don't you think that carrying all that extra weight could be a problem? Phew...!
