  1. I can understand a heated carb not being necessary in UK but what's the advantage in disconnecting it? Thanks for tip re not interlocking the saws, don't do that very often but sometimes just too much to carry.
  2. Wouldn't get a new saw without heated handles. Great to use on a wet miserable day and I feel lot warmer in general with them on... Though that might just psychological!
  3. Keep an eye on this site and the facebook page also: forestry jobs - forestmachineoperatorjobs From what I hear the industry is crying out for operators with the right attitude and work ethic. If you can demonstrate aptitude for machine work and provide good references then I'm sure you'll get a start somewhere. Good luck
  4. I can't answer your question but can say we have 3 blades for our Palax. Some have more teeth than others, the ones with less teeth cut faster as simpy a more aggressive cut, consequently not as smooth a cut and can snatch occasionally. Incidentally I'd recommend Doug at Cutting Solutions for good quality blades, service and prices
  5. Few years back in California I was refuelling car at a "gas" station. Guy at next pump asked me if it was "Renault" I was driving, told him no it was a Chevy. He keeps asking the same question and keeps getting same answer. I'm starting to think this guys eyes are painted on or must be just stupid. This Q&A session continues until we establish that the chaps query is actually "is that car a rental?" Sometimes accents totally change what the listener hears! Incidentally reason he was asking was that I had pump pipe across back of car and was filling car from opposite side of pump, apparently that's illegal.
  6. Should you not be petitioning through the official site? Epetitions.direct.gov.uk I don't really see how the request for sponsorship in varying amounts relates to number of possible supporters.
  7. Forget about firewood and focus on the harvesting with van to suit?
  8. It's an Osa 363 crane on my spares Osa, both Osas are badged as FMG so are the later models. Your crane is different from the Loglift as doesn't have extension wear adjusters, looks more like the 363 but I'd need to take pictures and compare (or post)
  9. Can't verify the claim but I'm sure the blade works a different way so don't need to do a full cycle - only cut what what needs cut.
  10. Now that's how you crack on and take down a tree in jig time, not sure I would get on very well with his choice of footwear though. On a serious note, this is why UK industry is struggling so much. You take these kind of working practices and compare them to ours and you can see why anything UK made is so expensive.
  11. I understand your sentiments AHPP, the incredible amount of bureaucracy in place now and accompanying non jobs are a massive drain on our economy. i remember when machine tickets first came out and you needed different tickets for a 8 wheel forwarder and 6 wheel forwarder. Good luck with your search
  12. You should be able to pick up 4.9m lengths fairly easy, does it need to be exactly 5m? if you're after that exact diameter then you may need to pay a little bit more to cover lorry sorting through pile when loading. When you say DBH I take it you mean top diameter and not actually dbh?
  13. Well done Now they're in place is it worth putting cable tie or similiar over spring hook/bracket to keep them from popping off again?
  14. If its a domestic boiler can your company not register as rhi supplier then sell wood fuel to you or your wife?
  15. Where's your collection point (approximately)? Should be able to send a pallet in mainland UK for £60 to £75
  16. A tragedy for a local family but a reminder to all of us that work with heavy machinery... BBC News - Machine lurched killing forester, Stirling inquiry hears
  17. And on a similar note BBC News - Machine lurched killing forester, Stirling inquiry hears
  18. A loglift 60 on one of them, not sure about the other. I don't have the manual to hand but from memory it has quite a few crane options.
  19. Working for a small producer I've dealt directly with buyers at Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose. They were all ok regarding listings/price increases except Waitrose where the head buyer wanted to take on our product, unfortunately the category buyer was ruthless regarding what was in it for Waitrose. After verbal agreement to list us they then reneged as someone offered them more attractive terms, consequently the other product got "our" spot on the shelves. On a personal level I support local shops where I can but the convenience of supermarket is where they win.
  20. 4t an hour average wouldnt leave you much slack I'd have thought. Hopefully nice and clean sticks!
  21. Some pics from today's walk, Beautiful woodlands and lochs here. Passed another couple NT sites with more signs nailed onto soft and hardwood, they're pulling poles out of a thinning so I assumed were buggering around with horses but there are machine tracks into wood so not sure why poles. Also came across stack of good and rotten timber on a quiet road. Some oak which I'd guess to be millable along with random SW off cuts
  22. Not sure what size they are, taken with iPhone and synced over to ipad. I've managed that way before SteveA but doesn't seem to be working now, I'll look at the app. Thanks anyway Edit: £2.99 for app! I'll need to ask Wee Eck to add this onto free tuition, prescriptions etc
  23. Website Steve
  24. can select image from library but it never actually uploads
  25. Staying in Ambleside and yes, the weather is bit greyer today. On macbook so can upload pics this time. Can understand that with signs nailed on then at least you know they're not going anywhere, well not unless ripped down entirely. Think I saw a few Iggesund signs so possibly a standing sale. Any idea if they're skidding/skylining the larch poles out? Was NT site at Claife
