  1. That's a 5/6 ton trailer... And that's at a push.
  2. Bear in mind also that you'll pay again for this when you go to renew your insurance. I'm sure there's meant to be bit of leeway so that you're not penalised for having "only" three points, in my experience that's not the case and having any points means your insurance premium will increase.
  3. Yes will be fine through crane controls, will work it in small job and see if anything needs tweaked. If get enough work I'd consider converting it to hypro processor with felling head .. I like simplicity though!
  4. Visited Australia many times - great country! NZ likewise One trip to Aus I was at basketball game and I saw them passing kids by hand up a seating level. Ie bottom level guy grabs kid and hoists up to full reach, punter above reaches over barrier, grabs kids hands and hoists them up. Job done in 5 secs with no drama and no bullshit! My Aussie friends tell me that PC and regulation is creeping in there too though
  5. If a row of levers then that's same as my Kesla valve block, to switch to electrical lever control I needed new valve block plus other kit and that's where economics start to go awry. YJC tapped into servo system for crane so now I push button and crane levers work the Kesla.
  6. Awful news, hope he's insured .. Though that's not the point Edit - Similar has happened near me couple times with trade vans in village getting done over, police actually caught culprits and both times it was East europeans. In recent times it seems to be houses getting done over (smaller higher value goods?) and no one being caught.
  7. Ok that makes but more sense Aic! Might need few days cutting a week next year Central Scotland - and I'll pay more than that! Got your info saved
  8. I quite fancied the Kesla one lever control for processor but costs were prohibitive, I meant to ask John if we could adapt a matbro or equiv joystick
  9. The people in this forum who jump headlong into compliance (at great cost) and then boast about it always make me wonder - why do the Brits not push back against unnecessary legislation the way our continental cousins do? I checked machine on Friday and seemed grand, will take bit of getting used to working processor through crane controls but the stroke processors need time and patience anyway! JC done bit of fabrication work for us over the years and always comes back stronger than it went in
  10. Re original post if you fancy it then go for it, if not for you then don't comment and less of negativity re minimum wage and so forth. Aic - how can you work for £170 a week, £35 a day in my arithmetic? (5 day week) And you're out with your costs for running a car too!
  11. Just a stroke processor (same as you had) that he's fitted to small forwarder I've got. They're not cheap but you know it'll be done right and built like a tank I've no idea re 7.5t regs but the less crap stopping people from working the better
  12. France and Italy ahead of UK I'd say. Food, lifestyle, weather and don't give two hoots about EU paperwork where we pile in full steam enforcing it.
  13. Sounds good, the less bureaucracy freeing up people to work and generate cash the better. On completely different track I've got machine coming back from JCC next week, once working I'll post some pics.
  14. Well you can't of course but rules are rules. I'm not familiar with rules for power station chip but demonstrating sustainability usually means FSC certification... And that requires all sorts of crap. So legislation created to prevent illegal logging of rainforest severely hampers UK forest management and ties it up in layers of bureaucracy.
  15. Whether tree surgeon woodchip is genuinely sustainable or not is irrelevant. What is important is whether full chain of custody, woodland plan etc etc etc can be demonstrated and appropriate paperwork issued.
  16. Ok thanks for this, learn something every day. Currently got couple of 560xpg's so next time they're out I'll pop covers off and have a look. I assume wire to carb will be fairly obvious and if I disconnect it then it won't affect heating the handles?
  17. I can understand a heated carb not being necessary in UK but what's the advantage in disconnecting it? Thanks for tip re not interlocking the saws, don't do that very often but sometimes just too much to carry.
  18. Wouldn't get a new saw without heated handles. Great to use on a wet miserable day and I feel lot warmer in general with them on... Though that might just psychological!
  19. Keep an eye on this site and the facebook page also: forestry jobs - forestmachineoperatorjobs From what I hear the industry is crying out for operators with the right attitude and work ethic. If you can demonstrate aptitude for machine work and provide good references then I'm sure you'll get a start somewhere. Good luck
  20. I can't answer your question but can say we have 3 blades for our Palax. Some have more teeth than others, the ones with less teeth cut faster as simpy a more aggressive cut, consequently not as smooth a cut and can snatch occasionally. Incidentally I'd recommend Doug at Cutting Solutions for good quality blades, service and prices
  21. Few years back in California I was refuelling car at a "gas" station. Guy at next pump asked me if it was "Renault" I was driving, told him no it was a Chevy. He keeps asking the same question and keeps getting same answer. I'm starting to think this guys eyes are painted on or must be just stupid. This Q&A session continues until we establish that the chaps query is actually "is that car a rental?" Sometimes accents totally change what the listener hears! Incidentally reason he was asking was that I had pump pipe across back of car and was filling car from opposite side of pump, apparently that's illegal.
  22. Should you not be petitioning through the official site? Epetitions.direct.gov.uk I don't really see how the request for sponsorship in varying amounts relates to number of possible supporters.
  23. Forget about firewood and focus on the harvesting with van to suit?
  24. It's an Osa 363 crane on my spares Osa, both Osas are badged as FMG so are the later models. Your crane is different from the Loglift as doesn't have extension wear adjusters, looks more like the 363 but I'd need to take pictures and compare (or post)
