  1. The FC up here had a phase of of sending people through their woods ringing live trees to create deadwood, given their forests are full of standing dead timber I never quite grasped the need for more. To best my knowledge they've stopped that lunacy for the time being. As one reads about the UK deficit topping £100b per year you do wonder what these people are thinking.
  2. Winter is coming according to the telegraph UK weather: winter looms large as temperatures forecast to drop across the country - Telegraph
  3. We get them from Doug at Home - Cutting Solutions. From memory they're less than half the price of getting them through Palax Make sure you get one with right amount of teeth, anti kickback etc
  4. do hse only use riddor reports? Are no other info streams used? Where do the stats on home diy injuries or what day these accidents occur come from?
  5. Having got couple of them I'm more interested in the fix my forwarder thread the guy mentioned, where did it go?
  6. Much as I'm great believer in leaving people to do as they like and let them bear the consequences! personal responsibility is the term I think. However, the OP has a point ire what happens when (if) he cocks up. A chainsaw accident is just that and will end up in the statistics which hse etc all refer too
  7. Good to hear that business and dog are both better. Not sure about the negative post, surely the idea of helping someone when they're at low point is to help them get back on their feet? I missed the "fix my forwarder" thread, what was that about?
  8. I don't see the value in these at all. They're slow working, inefficient handling/transport, instead of one big log lying on ground you have lots of little ones... All mixed in with crap and lots of sawdust. And I bet they're not cheap plus need an expensive base unit too. If you were processing at roadside in forest and delivering direct to customer then they're marginally more efficient, load would still be full of crap and sawdust though.
  9. Thanks for sharing, very interesting. Not quite sure how a tree can be 150% moisture content though?
  10. Well it's not really a forwarder anymore as removed headboard and pins, I also need to unbolt the rear section where grab's parked so that shorter chassis. It does a 40cm stick.
  11. Thanks for heads up and good to hear he didn't get your kit. Surely the Police can go knock on his door and see what else he's been thieving
  12. We had a 3t access platform with special plant trailer to move it. It sat very low, had no ramps and just a bare chassis with two rests for the tracks to be lowered onto.
  13. Been feeding them for a week or so now, can't keep them going on fat balls - the Sparrows empty feeders nearly every day!
  14. You can burn venting holes in bags with a blow torch
  15. Looks great but v expensive and lots to go wrong in years to come! I was talking to local machinery dealer about how there must be a market for a new modern tractor but no electronics and other crap adding to initial price/breakdown probability. He said there already is a tractor like that.... it's called a Zetor
  16. I looked into swapping to Aspen due to all this chat about stale fuel etc etc. It was soon knocked on the head when I looked at cost of Aspen, at a difference of around £3 per litre and using around 30 litres a week (sometimes a lot more) across two saws it's cheaper to use petrol and then if experience saw issues just buy a new saw. Edit: I have signed the fuel duty petition
  17. Hello About 5 years ago I ripped out old oil boiler in my house and replaced with new efficient oil boiler plus boiler stove in living room coupled to storage tank in attic. Since then I've only used about 600litres of oil. I've heard conflicting reports regarding whether I could get my system approved as historic install allowing me to claim domestic RHI. Does anyone know where I could get a definitive answer on this? Thanks in advance
  18. I work with few companies out on the islands and visit often, fact the traffic cops/vosa etc have to come over by ferry with resulting early warning alarm seems to work well 53p for red here
  19. Fair points Jules but does the "ignorance is no defence" rule not kick in at some point?
  20. Jim at Riko also has good value grab/rotator packages available
  21. Thanks all for informative responses as always, all very interesting and good to know. To help clarify re system the crane control levers in cab are mini hydraulic valve blocks which in turn are connected to bigger valves (as per treequips post above). There are also two buttons with electrical connections on tops of levers. To switch control to processor I put foot on switch and the crane levers now work the processor valve block. How engineer managed that when it's a hydraulic system is beyond me. I have every faith he'll sort out the issue with valves not fully engaging, I was just curious as to what issue was and also a touch impatient, I won't touch anything 'till hear back from him! Thanks again for all informative responses
  22. OK thanks again. I don't envisage any trouble with engineer making adjustments, was just curious if something simple as I'm not really 100% sure how servo system works. When it's all pipes and no electrics I still can't get my head round how pressing a switch changes flow from one valve block to another!
  23. OK thanks for that Treequip, I was hoping would be something simple like that. Does it matter if double acting functions and adjustment is what is required? Maybe best that I don't interfere with servos until I speak with chap who put system together!
  24. Hello Hopefully someone who knows a little about hydraulics can answer a query for me. I picked up processor from engineer today and it works grand when empty but once loaded with a tree it becomes clear that there's a lack of pressure/flow as the movements slow right down. The valve block which controls processor is servo controlled and it looks like there's not enough pressure being applied to the relevant valve block function - the levers are not being fully engaged. When the levers are fully engaged manually there is plenty of flow & pressure to machine but via servos the levers are only engaging about two thirds. So... Is it easy to turn up the pressure being applied to valve functions by the servos? Hopefully I can catch up with engineer on Monday but thought I would ask here in the meantime. Hopw that makes sense and thanks in advance for any info
