1. New challenge/game thread for any arbtalkers who spend as much time as me watching splitter/processor clips whilst the wife watches quality TV!!! The game must be played with complete honesty otherwise it will fail! The challenge is to find and post the link to any log/kindling splitter/firewood processor youtube clip that has not been seen by any other Arbtalker! Anyone who has seen it can respond to say its been seen or the following smilies I'll start the ball rolling with the following although I posted it yesterday on the "show us your log splitters" thread so its been seen but I don't want to win straight away and spoil the thread!! It will help if you know the Latvian, Romainian or Estonian for "LOGSPLITTER" The winner gets the title of " ARBTALK SADEST WOODY YOUTUBER" but only until the next unseen clip is exposed then the title is passed on!!! Goodluck:thumbup:
2. Fair play you are one brave mofo!! I hate health and safety nonsense but that even made me wince!!!
3. The pulley on mine fitted straight on, I'd get the engine and check but if you have to get a new pulley that shouldn't be to hard! I'll see if I can get some pictures over the weekend for you. we had to modify the exhaust and the belt shroud to get the engine to sit back far enough, this involved cutting a corner off the exhaust and welding a plate across it! I'm just lucky I have a tame fabricator friend, it took us about 3 hours but looks proffesional and it works well even on wet conifer!!
4. I put a 16hp launtop honda replica on an old entec trukloader last year as I couldn't find a cheap replacement for the defunct briggs and stratton motor. It took a bit of fettling to get it on and the pulleys to line up but got there in the end. I should have bought the elctric start one as it needs a big big pull to get it going so much so that second time out the pull start mechanisim shattered! I replaced it with a honda one and bobs your uncle! As for running it you have to slow down the feed on bigger/longer stuff or it will block the chute but then its gravity fed and will just pull it through so quick it can't get it out the chute quick enough. It has only stalled when it can't clear the chute quick enough so it just means using a little common sense, I guess on a roller fed machine you could adjust the feed to negate this issue. Mine will happily do 4" all day without issue and bigger than 4" is a log!!
5. Its not good here in Gloucestershire, just cancelled tomorows job as it means dragging through the next door neighbours garden(they have access rights) but the newly landscaped garden is so water logged by the time we finish it resemble a rugby pitch on a saturday afternoon and the patio will no longer be a cotswold buff!!!
6. i'm coming round to the aged old addage "buy cheap buy twice" and thus its new all the way unless like previously said you are sure of its history!
7. I'm sure its not all youngsters just the ones I keep getting!! I have a 15year old lad thats at school so just does weekends/holidays works like a trooper without complaint and is always looking to see what needs doing next!! hes strong as an ox and just keeps going...unfortunately school gets in the way and he wants to do sixth form!! I'd take him on and pay him well as he's worth it... he did more in 4 hours yesterday than the 18 year old I've just got rid of did in 2 days!!!
8. Is that where I'm going wrong?? I just thought it was the youth of today!! I've not found anyone really worth paying in the last few years.....every time I looked up they'd be stood doing nothing just staring at me working!!! It got abit annoying!!
9. Looking for a new trainee/labourer as the last one has a hurty finger!! I'm looking for someone who understands what work is! Part time/casual initially with potential for more days/full-time if you understand what work is! Looking to expand our company so there is potential for the right candidate and would even contemplate an apprentiship. Work is varied as we don't just do tree surgery. Pay is negotiable but please don't expect to earn the same as me for doing next to nothing!! If you do a proper days work.....you'll get a proper days money.....if you don't work you'll get peanuts and told to go away....politely of course:thumbup:
10. As the title might indicate I have had a worker recently give me what I would consider to be a poor/lame excuse for not coming into work! He had been splitting wood for me for a few hours and text me at 22:00hrs to tell me that he wouldn't be in work the following morning as he had hurt his finger!! He said I had stepped on it and it was now abit swollen and the nail was black!! He didnt tell me to get the "F"off it when I stood on it which I found strange as I'm a good 19stone!!! So he was not coming to work because he had a hurty finger!!!! He's only 18 and had emailed me a few months back as he really really wants to be a tree surgeon or forester!! Now call me old fashioned but when I was 18 I'd of gone to work with my arm falling off!! However I think his was just an excuse as I was on my way home from my other job at shortly after midnight and saw him walking out of town with a can held firmly in his hand with his hurty finger! He saw me and decided to dissapear into a bush and hide!! Again when I was 18 I would have gone to work with my arm falling off and a hangover from hell!! Is it just me or are the youth of today all namby pamby lightweight girly toss potts!!?? Oh and I'm now looking for a new trainee/labourer!
11. I picked one up last month on an "R" reg seems good but I think it has had some cash thrown at it in the past! it has the non turbo 2.7 engine which doesnt appear to exist to insurance companies as they reckon iit only came as a 2.5 or 3litre v6!??NFU insured it though! Ive just towed a good 3.5/4 tonne of ash with it without issue although it wasnt quick and was in 2nd gear on the big hills! I only paid £1100 which is why I got it! at that price I couldnt say no!!
12. How peeeeed off will they be if it rains for a week???
13. I presume then you had no legal advice following arrest because IMO there is no way you should have been charged! What happened at court?
14. I don't wish to sound sceptical but under what grounds were you searched? For an officer to conduct a stop search there have to be grounds for that i.e you were seen waving a knife around in public and that was reported to the police by someone who was concerned that you had a knife with you in a public place and was fearfull enough to call 999!! I am one of those officers you hold in such contempt and I am a fan of kebebs yet I have never felt the urdge to search anyone in the que at the kebeb shop when I get my friday night doner!! However if someone reported seeing a bloke at the kebab shop with a knife I would attend and yes I would search said man and if he had a lock knife on him and he was an arse I would nick him, if however he was not an arse and explained to me in a reasonable fashion that he was a farmer who was still at work but had stopped for tea and was carrying the knife as his work involved its regular use then I would have given him some words of advice reference not having it on display or waving it around in public and that would be that, so you being charged would indicate you were quite possibly being an arse in the first place and then spoke to the coppers like they were in the wrong for being there when in actual fact they were just doing the job they are employed to!! just think how many people are injured by people who routinely carry knives each year and think its acceptable!! Rant over!!
15.
Hello Jon, Do you still have your Husky 135 for sale if so I'll have it off you for my good lady! Let me know, cheers

16. Agreed Onduline is crap lasts maybe 3yrs in harsh conditions, looking at rebuilding my barn this year and looking for cheap galv tin or box wouldnt even contemplate onduline!!!
17. I only take cash or online payment now and people are happy with that!! I got right peed off with people wanting to give me a cheque for a single log net so that went and as for credit cards.....I'm not going to encourage people to get into debt!!!
18. I have the 6024 and changed the 24"bar for an oregon powermatch 16" it took a bit of working out with my local dealer but we got there in the end!! Its an awesome some with a 16" on whereas it struggled with the 24" original bar!!
19. I'd be interested in some at the right price? Not to far away from you either. Pm me the details.
20. Burnt some last night that I felled and ringed up in the first week of December, it burnt well so the rest will now be sold!
21. On the rare occasion you have to much let me know and I'll have it off you!!
22. Now Now it seems like we have a difference of opinion! I tend to agree with the buy older side! My brother in law once made the comment to me when we were both looking for vehicles "you can't get a decent vehicle for less than four grand" he then went and spent five grand on volvo thing and I went and spent £1200 on an Nreg audi 80 19tdi estate with full service history and 80,000 miles!! In two years of ownership he had to spend another two grand on computer related sensor mumbo jumbo issues and I had to spend £1.23 on a bulb!!! unfortunately my audi got written off after a collision with a drunk driver otherwise I'd still have it!! His volvo eventually got sold for £1500 after costing him an arm and a leg!! Old but well looked after is the way for me!!
