Looks like a rhododendron of some flavour....just not sure of the flavour!!

I run the 2.5 5 cylinder petrol one and it pulls really well if a little juicy! I picked it up as a one housing association owner with only 40,000 on it for £2250 and its a caged tipper. I am looking into heavier duty springs as it does show the weight a bit but still carries it fine. The GTW is 4tonne with the vehicle weighing in at 1.3tonne so loaded and towing it gets a bit close to the mark however it carries weight better with the chipper on the back as that takes the bounce out of the springs!! Its a normal mot as well!

If your talking about the ones with the steel rod that runs inside the pole between a fixed lever handle with red plastic grip and the cutting head I may have a spare head on a broken set! and I think one of the others I have still has the makers sticker on so I'll have a look next week for you.

Its the same here....find it really hard to find youngsters who don't expect to be earning top money from day one and for doing sweet F all!! I've started thinking they must all be gay the amount of time the spend staring at me while I'm working my C@#k off!! Had to tell one lad to go last week.....I was 2hours into the job sweating up the tree, my groundie was sweating logging up and cutting the brash out and he came back from the chipper putting his coat on saying he was abit chilly.....abit chilly if I wasn't up the tree I'd of throttled the bleeping little S@#T!!!

I got to 30 and thought do I want to be climbing at 40 and will I be capable.....hmm what about when I'm 50....hmm? I then applied for and got into the police.......hmmm I now do Arb and logs to subsidise my ever decreasing salary!! Believe it or not joining the police was financially the worst move I ever made so I'm now still climbing just not full time!!!

Friend of mine has a walnut tree in Gloucestershire by the banks of the river Severn gets loads of Walnuts and shoots loads of squirrels every year!! it almost seems like they can smell the nuts and come from miles in the hope they can get one!!

Jon doesn't live anywhere near the Mendips and the only log he knows anything about is a chocolate one because he actually owns a cake shop in Barnsley!!!

Havent read all the posts here but saw your edging strongly towards an ex police focus....I am a serving police officer and and drove the focuses every day......do NOT buy an ex police one!!For response driving they were so under powered and the gearing low down was rubbish they had to be treated like a gokart and were thrashed everywhere and when I say thrashed I really mean thrashed remember they didn't have to stick to any speed limits! Once they get to the point of being retired it is either as they are at that age or because they are spending way to much time in workshops being repaired and it is usually because they spend to much time in workshops!!

I have been wondering about the reliability of Chinese engines as I've seen these on fleabay 20Hp LT620VQ1E V TWIN CYLINDER ELECTRIC START PETROL ENGINE | eBay I'm not adverse to Chinese I have a 62cc Mitox chainsaw that I've put a 16inch bar on and its ace!! I haven't asked gardenkit yet but have asked 7 different companies who all come back with the same answer which is not positive!! I think they all just want to sell you a new engine!!

Your right there should be a carb somewhere and I've spent the last 2 weeks searching with no luck at all! It's a Vanguard Vtwin 18hp model 350442 type 1186/A1 (E1 will fit but they don't make that anymore either!!) and your right it should go back together if the parts are there!! I know of two parts that are not there they cost £50 alone and I'm sure there are not other bits missing to but don't no what they are and I could be throwing money into it only to find its not that that was stopping the engine from starting in the first place!

I'm in need of some help and expertise so thought I'd open this up to the wealth of knowledge that is here, I know that maybe foolish and I'm expecting the ridicule and laughter but what the hell. I have recently come across an old Entec 18/100 gravity fed chipper with a Briggs and Stratton 18hp Vtwin engine. The previous owner had taken the carb apart as he couldn't start it but then stuck the bits in a big tuna tin and left it!! I paid peanuts for it with the intention of sticking a new carb on it and adding to the fleet however I have now discovered I cant get a new carb and Briggs and Stratton say there is no replacement for the existing one on it dispite the fact its only 16 years old and they still make the same cc and output engine!! They also say they get around 5-6 enquiries about this carb every week! So the question is what to do those 5-6 other people who enquire every week do and what should I do? Do I throw the engine away and put another engine on it? If I do this do I put a second hand one on or buy a chinesey replacement new one of the fleabay(my budget doesn't stretch far enough for a new B&S or Honda!!) Is there another carb out there that will do the job if so where/what is it!!?? Do I attempt to rebuild the carb in the hope that it was the carb stopping the engine from starting in the first place? Or do I do something else all together that doesn't involve me spending or losing a shed load of ££! All responses greatfully received along with any offers of second hand 18hp perfectly running Honda engines for peanuts!

My neighbour who has the luxury of a woodland full of only oak, beech and ash sells it seasoned at £80 a cube delivered within 5 miles!!

Stick with the 254xp!! but I'd put a slightly bigger bar on it, that was my first saw back in the day and it never let me down! look on here for all the guys who are having issues with there nice shiny new 550's!!!!

Changing the subject only very slightly has anyone ever modified the chute on one so it could load into a truck or skip?? I have been looking for a cheap quality small chipper but it has to be able to load a truck or skip!!?

Hold on there a minute.............don't all the garages and DIY superstores across all of this fine country sell tonnes of sopping wet sappy **** softwood every winter in nets??? If I was you I'd get it all netted up and flog the lot to your local garages you'll be surprised how much it works out at then.....a lot more than beer money I suspect!! I personally sell as much softwood as hardwood by doing mixed bags 50/50 hard and soft at £50 a bulk bag (not a cube)!! If it burns it'll sell especially when it does the same as wood that costs £20-£30 more a bag!!

In my opinion and please remember it is just my opinion the best or only way to make worthwhile money from logs is to process your arb arisings (illegal or not that hasn't been answered). I try and and ring all my timber at the earliest opportunity if that means an extra hour a day then so be it! I then split it hydraulically and crate it and it's more or less all profit! Ok theres a bit of fuel in the saw but that gets worked into the cost of the job and delivery which I offer free within 10 miles so I make decent money (mostly cash) from my logs!!

My mate runs a joinery shop and they use expanding foam to stick everything!!! you just need to make sure its well clamped obviously!!

I've never been a fan of type A's C's or any other chainsaw leg duvets,! I am a great believer that wearing them causes more accidents through the restriction of movement and overheating than if chainsaw users just applied a little more respect to the job in hand! Chainsaws are dangerous and taking that little snippet for granted is what will end with you chopping your leg off! I wear shorts up the tree and don't take that for granted and I still have 2 legs and 2 arms!!! Oh and I drink plenty of cider which is what manual countryside workers have done for years!!! Cheers

£1790 these two bad boys were undermining the foundations of the school behind, there were phone cables across the front so they couldn't be felled and access was to tight for anything bigger than 1.5 tonne and trailer!! Ballache of a job hence the price!! And yes that's a 6ft2 16 stone man stood between them!!
