  1. That's very lovely. Would look good at a show Is London plane also known as snakewood?
  2. Excellent Shavey When you say get the dates right do you know which weekends in September might be doable?
  3. I would have thought a bit of camping could be organised. These are the things I need to know about as I have never been to a small woodfair before so don't know what folks expect. Dont think a couple of trips to the APF counts
  4. Yes down in the west near Tavistock. To date there has been a local a sheepdog trials but the oraganisers are looking to bring more things in. I jokingly said how about me demonstrating the firewoodprocessor at this years show and they loved it now want me to organise a woodfair in this feild. I paid £10 for my pitch this but that my need to up a bit to gain some proper advertising. It will probably be smallish in 2015 but you never know it could take off if enough intrest.
  5. As above. Hoping to get a woodfair off the ground down here and wondering what mix of exhibitors make for a good show? If intrested in exhibiting or being involved let me know on here or give us a call 07443 632933. This is for next September but not fixed any dates yet. Thanks
  6. Mahonia does look possible. Pics I found of acacia don't really fit with sample Mahonia http://dirtyfingernails.hortweek.com/files/IMG_9346-1.jpg Only other things I can add is it's bliming heavy. Probably sink if I put it in water. Also has flecks like beech where it's split.
  7. Ye I did think it was long shot. Would be good to meet up some time
  8. Not the greatest pic but hope you can make something of this.
  9. Done a bit of Googling from these suggestions and it looks like Berberis is the prime candidate.
  10. Processing logs today and came across this. I know hawthorn can have a yellow tinge but never seen anything like this.
  11. Website for us. Use a free Yola template that took a morning to set up and works a treat. Seems to filter out all the time wasters others seem to struggle with. I am not that young so no idea about social media. Tried the local rag and got loads of time wasters and "what's your best price". Website and domain costs the same as 2 small ads in the local rag!
  12. Hi TCD I would like to give RL oil a go. Anyone local sell it?
  13. Need a hand? It's a long shot but I am down in South Brent today with the processor and don't think it's going to take very long so could be free to give a hand this afternoon. If this is of interest come along to the The Marsh community composting centre where I will be. Can't promise to to be done early but should be. I have nought else on this afternoon so be happy to help
  14. Ahh Thanks Had missed the two handed aspect in the video. Don't let anyone else use ours but can see the need for staff.
  15. This the one you want Jon?
  16. Will happily recommend other skilled trades and expect nowt in return. Passed some log customers onto a mate next thing you know he gets us a great job hedgelaying. Happy days.
  17. Most of ours are around 17% and won't go lower during a Dartmoor winter. Sounds like the add in you local rag is telling untruths This table was posted on her a while back Wood Equilibrium Moisture Content Calculator from Wood Workers Source.com Just look at the external RH and tempertures to find out what can be done.
  18. Can I ask whats safer about the proper handle? My current piece of rope is pretty short so hard to be near the blade when actuating the ram.
  19. That's Interesting Billy I had wondered if my customers have been over egging what we get done.
  20. With nice wood Jon should be able to knock out 15 ton maybe more. Can't say I would want to do consecutive days like that though as its bliming hard work. Maybe less. see below
  21. Those were big logs Jon for a biomass boiler. Think they were 45cm long but the machine can do upto 60cm
  22. Be interesting to see what Billy thinks. The numbers I gave further up the page where based on the customers estimates of how much we had got through but never had an exactly known weight of wood.
  23. Came across this fun animation of current winds earth :: an animated map of global wind, weather, and ocean conditions
  24. It's surprising what the little engine can do. We have a 55 hp compact tractor that it can be run off and it is a touch quicker on the cut but much different when it comes to the splitting. Generally I run on the engine and leave the tractor free to load and clear. Can't say it makes a lot of difference whether it's softwood or hard but nearly all I get to cut is pretty fresh.
  25. Looking at the link it's got the log lifter but no mention of the six way splitter. With larger material you really want to have the six way or else lots of re splitting to do.
