  1. Recently got a Dmax. Read about the DPF issues and quizzed the dealer about it. Apparently all sorted on the latest models. No issues with the DPF so far but it's early days. Biggest complaint is too high 1st and reverse gears. All fine and dandy when unloaded but a pain when maneuvering slowly with some weight on the back. Never got to try out a Hylux as dealer was useless.
  2. About to light ours. Weather has well and truly turned now. Cold wet and windy with some thunder and lightning for good measure. Looking forward to drying out in front of the fire later.
  3. Much the same here only it rained all day as well. Love to think we will have a good splash this autumn followed by a nice cold dry winter with a bit of the old white stuff. Suspect it will be generally warm and wet with with the odd cold day but one can dream.
  4. Just 30 and 31 Thought there was thread on here saying they needed updating every few years to be valid.
  5. I am only ground based but Arborisk were happy to cover me for any ground based tree work even though my only tickets expired many years back. Can't put my hand on heart and say I have read all the small print but Arborisk appear popular on here.
  6. Thanks for heads up. Normally spared from these sort down here.
  7. Go on then see some pics. Also some other ideas for keeping your logs dry in this thread http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/45908-daft-idea-keeping-my-logs-dry.html
  8. They do look nice and I don't think they are very expensive for a good looking log shed. Suspect the cost of all the treated timber adds up to a chunk of the cost. Made a few sheds in the past and it's always surprising how much materials cost when you add it all up. Hope they sell well and the site looks good
  9. Usually you want to set the air so you have a rolling flame no need for it to be roaring but don't shut it down to the point you extinguish the flame due to lack of air. Are you sure the logs are dry? oak is very slow drying but lovely when it is.
  10. Worked next door to a wood processing plant in Exeter and their piles of chip were reguly on fire Big old piles probably 5+ meters high
  11. Sounds very good I will sell with the worst being up to 25% and never had a complaint to date.
  12. Have the cheapest Sugihara on my 346XP. No problems to date. Much harder wearing than the Husky bar.
  13. That's intresting Rowan. I have been using the processor for cutting up billits and found it surprisingly slow. I will try the rack to see how long that takes.
  14. A crate holds around half a ton of wet logs. Turnaround from wet to dry is approximately 1 1/2 crates per year if you can sell all year around. So 666 crates . We pay £20 per crate so £13333 for all the crates. I presume billets need pallets at least they do the way we do them. Still £5 for a good pallet and slower drying but still much cheaper in material terms than crates.
  15. Looks like it's just a taller container Agility Logistics Australasia
  16. Hi Will Only just seen this. Is it still available
  17. Like the sound of that John No precious wood wasted in the process. How much ST is needed for a 40ft container (insulated I presume)
  18. So are you getting the RHI just for the solar of a polytunnel or have you added a large bank of ST tubes?
  19. A few pics of the trailer log deck with fence post for illustration. Ends but up to front of trailer so measurement can be permanently marked onto front edge for cutting reference.
  20. Love that John. Marcus the trailer idea is not for transport just a platform to build a deck for cutting lengths into billets. I have a very basic one for ringing up larger wood and it takes the backache out of it. No reason I can see why it would not work for cutting billets to length. I will nip out and take picture. Don't laugh too much as it is pretty rustic but does the job.
  21. Hi Marcus I have an idea that might work. Have you got an old flatbed trailer or similar platform?
  22. He may still be hiring them from his base in Milton abbot Matt. Ha ha yes that collie is as mad as a bag of badgers. OP If nothing in Cornwall try Abbey Pro in Tavistock. Never had any problems with them myself but other have had when ordering online. 40+ miles closer than Radmoor and Tucker.
  23. As to whether to have a winch or not. Our Krpan splitter has a log lifter and a winch. I never use the log lifter as the winch is so much more convenient as you can pull the length over to the splitter in the first place and upend all in one.
  24. My understanding is Doug has sold off the shop and some of his stock but will continue to sell some stuff from his base out at Milton Abbot
  25. I don't buy into roundwood drying well in a stack, at least not down here in the soggy SW. I have a bit of larch here that JL said was cut in January and I have just weighed a sample. Comes in at 780km per solid m3 not sure how heavy larch is when fresh but suspect not much higher.
