  1. Warm and wet with a brief cool spell around New year. I will worry about not selling all our logs but all those folk who have nice new wood burners will run them regardless of how warm it is and buy all our logs. Jon will make some incomprehensible posts and Eggs and stubby will decipher them for us. We will fight as to what is the best chainsaw and TCD will tell us it's a Dolmar
  2. Thanks chaps. Looks like it's the 24" Alaskan for me
  3. Hard to say what chainsaw to get without knowing the size of timber you're handling. For our logs businesses a MS460 with a 25" is big enough to break down any larger wood that comes my way. 100 tons is a heck of a lot of wood! Be prepared for a lot of hard graft. If you have not got a clear plan how to process and handle a 100 ton a year it might be worth asking for ideas for a whole solution from wood to boiler
  4. Looking at getting one of the above for an MS 460 with 25" bar. Had a read through of various discussions on both. It sound like the Mini mill is versatile and great in combo with a larger mill. My concerns with the Mini mill are accurate as only guided at one end also limiting if I end up with a bigger saw (not planned at the moment). Once boards are roughed out I can do the sides with workshop band saw which can take 11" under the guides. No particular purpose to milling other than trying to make use of larger butts that were earmarked for firewood. Which is the one to get? Thanks
  5. Is the link this http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/lounge/47093-desperate-times-my-silky-saves-day.html Page 1 Inspirational stuff Mr Fox
  6. Still dead here. Maybe bumping the price from £95 to £100 per cube was a step too far.
  7. Yep I can imagine horse logging bringing in the crowds in the context of this connected to a sheepdog trials. Not sure some heavy forestry machinery would be appreciated by the same people but so hard to judge.Apparently the South Brent show took a lot of work from a small team of organisers.
  8. Good points Steve that are not lost on me. Finding the balance between a fun event for visitors and worthwhile one for exhibitors is vital. Had a bit of an opener when one chap said he would be happy attend for the sum of £250. Not quite what I expected but a good dose of reality.
  9. Spooky. I was down there at the weekend so asked the chap I was working for if he knew anything about a woodfair in South Brent. Turns out he organised it! Going to be tricky now as don't want to overlap or tread on any toes.
  10. Good stuff Goaty especially the hog roast.
  11. That's very lovely. Would look good at a show Is London plane also known as snakewood?
  12. Excellent Shavey When you say get the dates right do you know which weekends in September might be doable?
  13. I would have thought a bit of camping could be organised. These are the things I need to know about as I have never been to a small woodfair before so don't know what folks expect. Dont think a couple of trips to the APF counts
  14. Yes down in the west near Tavistock. To date there has been a local a sheepdog trials but the oraganisers are looking to bring more things in. I jokingly said how about me demonstrating the firewoodprocessor at this years show and they loved it now want me to organise a woodfair in this feild. I paid £10 for my pitch this but that my need to up a bit to gain some proper advertising. It will probably be smallish in 2015 but you never know it could take off if enough intrest.
  15. As above. Hoping to get a woodfair off the ground down here and wondering what mix of exhibitors make for a good show? If intrested in exhibiting or being involved let me know on here or give us a call 07443 632933. This is for next September but not fixed any dates yet. Thanks
  16. Mahonia does look possible. Pics I found of acacia don't really fit with sample Mahonia http://dirtyfingernails.hortweek.com/files/IMG_9346-1.jpg Only other things I can add is it's bliming heavy. Probably sink if I put it in water. Also has flecks like beech where it's split.
  17. Ye I did think it was long shot. Would be good to meet up some time
  18. Not the greatest pic but hope you can make something of this.
  19. Done a bit of Googling from these suggestions and it looks like Berberis is the prime candidate.
  20. Processing logs today and came across this. I know hawthorn can have a yellow tinge but never seen anything like this.
  21. Website for us. Use a free Yola template that took a morning to set up and works a treat. Seems to filter out all the time wasters others seem to struggle with. I am not that young so no idea about social media. Tried the local rag and got loads of time wasters and "what's your best price". Website and domain costs the same as 2 small ads in the local rag!
  22. Hi TCD I would like to give RL oil a go. Anyone local sell it?
  23. Need a hand? It's a long shot but I am down in South Brent today with the processor and don't think it's going to take very long so could be free to give a hand this afternoon. If this is of interest come along to the The Marsh community composting centre where I will be. Can't promise to to be done early but should be. I have nought else on this afternoon so be happy to help
  24. Ahh Thanks Had missed the two handed aspect in the video. Don't let anyone else use ours but can see the need for staff.
  25. This the one you want Jon?
