  1. Fingers crossed for you today Bob We are off to Dorset where we are expecting winds of 15mph
  2. Thats my current thinking. Giving the brash a quick trim before branch logging it. Probably taking the tips back to around 20mm diameter. Just using a homemade retort.
  3. Thanks Tommy. Is it more bendy than ply? It is not really supported as the boards need easily removable Edit Haha those replies came too fast for my typing Thanks guys guess it may not be the material for the job.
  4. Good little map of the winds here Wind Map - Britain Observations
  5. Blowy Jon but nothing serious. From what I have seen on the forecasts I would be more worried for Bobh and others up on the west coast of Scotland. Looks like it get pretty ugly up there.
  6. All guaranteed washed logs here thanks to the horizontal rain we are having. So can I charge extra for them then
  7. Wanting to make some more permanent greedy boards for the truck. Current ones are some cheapo 12mm ply. Anyone used Stokbord or similar? Does it stay flat as the boards would be pretty much unsupported for the length of the load bed? Thanks
  8. Made some charcoal from our branch loggings this year and it was nice stuff but sales were slow. Want to put a bit more effort into it this year and I am presently cutting wood and not sure what size makes the best charcoal. Bare in mind the max diameter the branch logger can do is 75mm and I have no say in the lengths it cuts them to but this is around 100mm Pictures of what I made this year. I did not trim off the tips of the branches so there is quite a bit of charcoal as seen on the right of the picture. Is it worth me trimming the tips before branch logging or do you think it is saleable? It all gets put over a 25mm seive but few of the little sticks fall through. Many thanks.
  9. Nice one Silky
  10. You got to hand it to the Likes of Makepeace and Savage. They are selling art that is made of wood and can charge accordingly. Do you show your turning work in the guild?
  11. Agreed I like it aswell. Didn't meen to disparaging about it only the price
  12. Did he show it in the Devon guild?
  13. Thanks all for the advise. Been out with the Alaskan and cut an 8" slab to raise the table. Will give it a go at that. Had a close look at the PTO angle and can probably raise the splitter off the floor 4" if need be.
  14. £1500 could buy a fair bit of insulation and draft proofing. Not always easy but could be just the ticket.
  15. The snag with a large stove is running them in the shoulder months. Most stoves work best when worked hard. A big stove running half tilt will smoulder and soot up the glass. Any chance you could have a second stove? If no I can wholeheartedly recommend the larger Woodwarms.
  16. Seems nuts. What I don't get is David Savage can make truly beautiful furniture (not necessarily to my taste) but this just looks so simplistic. The base is not far off a bit of kitchen top. Nothing wrong with the table really just crazy money for the work involved. You can imagine a discussion with the wife can you dust the table? no I am going to give it a quick flail first
  17. Thanks Rowan. Already have a small pad on the steel base. Can go up another 13cm before I will reduce my log length below our largest logs. Will probably do this first but would still be below hip height. Anymore will have to be pads and ramps.
  18. Don't know if it belongs under woodcraft or hedge laying:001_smile: Beautiful glass top occasional table | Bespoke Furniture | David Savage
  19. Thanks Steven Appreciate the picture and it may be deceiving but that looks much like the height of mine at the moment. The truck bed is not up to your hips and the splitter bed looks a fair bit lower. I am upright when on the controls. It's the moving and chucking the logs I must be stooping for. Don't notice for an hour or so it's the longer shifts that the back starts to complain.
  20. Thanks for all the suggestions Snag with this is it's a big splitter on a compact tractor. The PTO is low on the tractor and if I run with spitter high there is quite an angle on the shaft. I have done it but don't think it a suitable long term solution. I could back up onto some rings but would like a permanent fix. There is lots of height to play with on the ram so just need to raise the table but just not sure how much. At present the table is thigh high so sounds like needs to come up at least 6-8" to hip height. When looking at 1m vertical splitters they all seem to have low tables. Seems a shame as everything else on this machine is well thought out.
  21. Finding that working at our Krpan tractor mounted splitter is leaving my back aching. Going to do some mods and wondered what hight others think is ideal.
  22. Someone local just bought a TR110 and Welmac had fitted it with a conveyor.
  23. This is ours in action It's big brother the TR 110 should be upto handling 4x2
  24. Lashing it down and warm. Hope it soon clears as have log deliveries to do
