  1. Would happily second that. My folks have the 16 kWh Woodwarm fireview and it is the best stove I have ever used.
  2. First is much like first ie a bit high. If you have lots of space a very skilled backer and want to go fast it will be fine but if wanting to take it easy into tight space you want go slower. Options slip the clutch in high or low ratio with the diff issues. Plenty of power it's just the delivery that's tricky.
  3. One more thing. Stupid positioning of the number plate directly behind the hitch. When backing up to trailer you have to very careful not to overshoot or the number plate gets it. Many pickups especially the older ones have a metal bumper and number plate up and out the way. Wish I had looked more closely at the alternatives instead of getting hung up on the 3.5 tonne tow capacity that I will probably never need.
  4. Good points. Not noticed any problems with fuel getting into the oil and I do a bit of pootling. Never had the DPF light go on. It goes like the clappers in reasonable comfort and tows very well at speed and on the flat. Surprisingly good off road Bad points. Disappointed with poor fuel economy and high gearing. Almost Never get over 30mpg however it's driven. For a supposed combined figure of 37 or 38 mpg seems to miss the mark by some distance. The high gearing takes a bit of adapting to after a Defender. If using the Dmax as a car it's not an issue but start slow maneuvering with load up and it's a pain. You can drop down into Low box but then the difflock kicks in and you get wind up between the front and rear axle. Not a problem on loose gravel or fields when the wheels can slip but backing a load of logs up a steep tarmac drive you can feel the torque windup on the transmission. Not driven any of the other pickups. Previous vehicle was Defender 90
  5. Agreed. Do you think us Arbtalkers could compile an accurate one? Might start a new thread
  6. Probably worth talking to your BCO they can be pretty helpful and knowledgeable. I know ours happened to be qualified to grade timber as I used ungraded timber for our roof.
  7. Well I got a pair of the Ripeur 2's. On the plus side they are quite supple and comfy. On the down side the cuffs are too short and wrists have got nicely mauled by the brambles. Also got stabbed a few times by the bramble thorns through the fingers. Bit disappointed for the price to be honest but not tried them out on hawthorn and blackthorn yet.
  8. Yes I did buy it a couple years back.
  9. Zero odours? It stinks. Gave up on it one day hedge laying as the air was so still. Honestly find the smell sickly but my machines love it.
  10. Why because some customers want to know. Picked up a new customer last week purely because I guarantee it was all below 25% and mainly below 20% not that he checked. They are not expensive bits of kit and as far as I am concerned help with knowing what is dry and what needs a bit more time.
  11. Have you had customers check the moisture content?
  12. Sitting here and my feet are frozen so just about to light ours.
  13. I confess I have never done it myself but openspaceman posted up the procedure once but don't know where. The basic idea is to dry a known size sample completely in an oven and this is 0%. Then every % over that for a given size is water. Example. Take two identical sized samples from a log. You dry sample A completely by measuring its weight occasionally until it stops loosing weight. Say it then weighs 100g and your undried sample B weighs 125 g so B is 20% moisture content. Hope I have got that right but sure someone who knows will correct me. Found this http://www.biomassenergycentre.org.uk/pls/portal/docs/PAGE/PRACTICAL/FUEL_SUPPLY/STANDARDS/TESTING%20MC%20WHS%20EDITION%202011-3-16.PDF
  14. 20% That's dreadful. Can't think of a good way to calibrate yours other than comparing with a checked one. One simple test but slow if you don't have anything suitable is wood in the home that has fully acclimatised should be somewhere between 8-10% in the average house. Maybe it's time to buy a quality one that comes with a calibration test. I am using an old Protimeter that is still spot on after 20 years (according to it's calibrator). The experts will recommend doing an oven drying test as no moisture meter is perfect.
  15. At long last the top for this is done. Sadly no pictures of it all together just some snaps before it left the workshop. Handles for the doors and shelves were added on site.
  16. Thanks chaps. It was last night Tony so definitely not heat. Its an old machine so will check the fuel lines and filter this morning.
  17. Dug out the brush cutter for the first time today. Been stored with some Aspen I think. After a fair bit pulling it runs and is usable but the engine continually hunted. Still plenty of power but cleary something is not right. Where should I start? Thanks
  18. Yep billets through a processor is slow work. Rekon it takes longer to make a cube from billets than it does from cord even with the Farmi which is fast on small stuff.
  19. Look like it's a horn. The speaker driver will be mounted at the thin end and the horn naturally amplifies the sound. Like these You need a large horn for bass and a small one for treble so the one in the video is probably for a mid range speaker.
  20. Go on amaze us. How many cube of oversized material can you get logged in a day
  21. "buy cheap buy twice" Not sure this applies to LEDs from what I have seen. You see identical looking lights at vastly different prices depending on where they are being sold. For all intensive purposes they are all made in China. You can probably buy direct from China off Ebay. I know many who have done this with no complaints. Then there are Ebay sellers who buy them from China and retail them in UK for 50% more. Then there is fancy specialist who does the same as the Ebay seller for twice the price again. Can't say I have any experience on beacon lights though but would be surprised if they were any different. Personally I buy LEDs from UK Ebay sellers as it gives a bit of backup for a bit more money but have bought LEDs from China in the past with no quality issues.
  22. Got a call yesterday. Is that Liz's Logs? Yes Do you want some sycamore Yes (pause) how much is there and what are you looking for it. It's free Do you need me to come and collect No we will deliver it to you. Nice pile of sycamore rings now siting in the feild. So thanks again chaps
  23. Woodberry Chicott are no more but been bought out by Barrett Engineering Steel South West Limited. On the plus side they think they can get me some hardend steel suitable for the job so thanks Cornish Aparently Hardox is a brand but there are many other similar steels out there.
