  1. Just took are our new dog for a walk and got caught out in it. Completely soaked through
  2. Not doubting the speed of a good grinder on a large chain just find on a regular chain you get a better edge from a file. When you say you grind freehand I am presuming that's Gradenberg or one of similar style?
  3. Hi Steve Our place is not dissimilar to what you describe. 4.5m to the ridge and 300m3 of space to heat. Insulation is probably above yours but not up to current regs but it is well sealed. We have 8km stove that can heat the whole place for most of the year. Yes you get a buildup of heat in the pitch but it's not excessive. When it was my workshop I used a large ceiling fan to push the heat back down to floor level and this worked really well.
  4. Surprised a man of your skills goes for a grinder over a hand filing. I have done little sharpening on the milling chain but experience with regular chains is that you get a better edge with a file. Yes it takes a bit of practice to keep things even but a vernier gauge comes in handy for this.
  5. If that last bit was aimed at me my slow experience was with a brand new Gradenberg milling chain
  6. Thanks for trying to help but you lost me. I was not joking when I said I was a numpty with this sort of thing. Had a lot of recomends for Quickbooks from various sources so will probably give it a go. Thanks all
  7. I tried a small mill on a ms460 but it's not really up to the task if you value your time. It's very slow, hard on the saw and bar not to mention the fuel consumed. As for making timbers for your house if you ment for the structural stuff the wood will need grading to comply with structural engineers drawings. This is related to species, knot size and frequency.
  8. Would have thought venting. My IBC crates of logs loose 150 kg through drying. So 5 m3 you are looking at 750 litres of water to move. That's a hell of a lot for a dehumidifier to shift.
  9. Hence me changing the oil more often than spec'd. Main dealer went through some of the improvements they have made. Best one was new dipstick You couldn't make it up
  10. Haha yes not my finest effort
  11. Would love to but not mine to sell. Alec Thing is it's only a small farm so not got hundreds of acres to take for a spin on. Most of my processing goes on in some fields just down the road hence need to make agg registered if it's to find any real use here.
  12. Thanks Jon Think it's a 200 TDI. Only alternative I can see is if we got it agg registered then it would get a few short runs around the farm but can't see that helping it much
  13. Inventor/mechanical engineer Love building contraption to solve problems but only have woodworking skills so pretty limiting. Pretty happy with my current line of work though.
  14. My old mum has a defender 90 with a meer 28k on the clock. She can't drive these days but could not bare to sell it. So it's now SORN and parked up on the farm. Sure this is not good for it so what can be done to help preserve it until it can be sold?
  15. Looks like that one was made with a router. The curved corners are the telling ellement. Alternatively they may have used a forstner bit to drill the majority out and then use a chisel to clean up
  16. 30 m3 so approximately 15 tonne @ £50 per tonne roadside = £450 Offer £200 see what he says.
  17. I don't follow politics closely but he seems like a refreshing change. Sounds like he has actual conviction in his politics which can't say I have seen since Maggie. Interesting times ahead
  18. This lump got stuck and he couldn't move it. To be fair it was a cracking looking machine and he was probably unlucky but that Binderberger really does look the dogs danglies
  19. What he said The ability to roll and maneuver the logs to accurately split on the line you want looks great. Watched a demo of another solid looking billet splitter at the show and chap ended up standing on the machine trying to wrestle the log into position. Got a pic somewhere will dig it out.
  20. Well he lied I do short runs but it's usually loaded up hills so gets warm. Never had the DPF light come on so it must be managing its cycle. Not bothering fighting with main dealer just paying the local garage to fit Isuzu filter and oil. Turns out he has a Dmax as well and guess what he has the same problem. Suppose it's not a biggy in the grand scheme of things changing the oil more often but still a poor design flaw.
  21. Thanks for the suggestions. I will look into them
  22. Agreed but would you not like a slightly tougher version? I don't think this one is yet a replacement for the Farmi but with some R&D it might be. Thought it a lot of machine for the money and if I was after a static machine this would be on the short list.
  23. Jon you clearly drove a Friday night job. First time I took mine on a dual carriageway found myself doing near 90 without realising it. Pretty sure it would go faster than I would ever want to go in an off road vehicle
  24. I am a numpty with these things and at the moment we are using Excel to do invoices. Each time I do a new invoice I have to change the invoice number but it would be nice if it was like a book where each one was automatically numbered. I have been known to balls up and have multiple customers on the same invoice number Also it would be nice to be able to search a customer name and instantly access previous orders from them. This is for a Mac desktop. No need for phone compatibility.
  25. Think the Express has form the subject of cold winters
