  1. I think that recusing someone if they are using some sort of srwp system is a lot easier then say if it was rescuing someone on just ascenders , this takes a bit of practice to do smoothly and efficently and involves unclipping and counter balancing . Funnily enough Ben and i were having a yarn about this the other weekend. if its a rescue on an access line then check the anchor and the rope and all the other stuff that is important before you enter the tree. ascend upto the casualty then safely move your ascenders above their system if necessary.... then install a prussic above with a pulley or carabiner and run a climbing line through this making sure that there is friction device e.g. rope wrench or 8 as you will be loading the knot with two people and the last thing you need is a knot binding up. connect the end of the system to the casualty and the climbing knot to you, then, connect the casualty directly to you via a lanyard or strop and disconnect your ascenders. you can now lift the casualty by putting your knees underneath them and leaning back, creating enough slack to undo their ascenders and be able to rappel down to the ground ...... hopefully i haven't missed anything .
  2. yeah its hard to choose tunes for tree work videos as there is such a range in tastes but glad you liked it mate. thanks g. g can't complain can i
  3. [ame] [/ame]My latest instalment, its of a job we did a few weeks ago with a couple of cranes .
  4. [ame] [/ame]A chilled out day deadwooding and inspecting some nice big old oaks , no clean up just throw into the forest.
  5. [ame] [/ame]my first clip i edited , we had a heli in to remove a declining sequoia. what a sick day that was
  6. I thought id start up my own little thread . A few months ago I finally purchased a go pro and have really been digging mucking around editing and shooting clips. Im hoping to change it up a little by throwing in climbing and felling vids, hopefully showing you guys the sort of work i get unto over here. Some of these have been posted before but i will be getting onto making more in the near future. Hope you guys enjoy [ame] [/ame] Heres a clip of me playing around with my throwing hook
  7. Sweet setup mate , I like your style . I saw you using the smart winch in the Nagano tree video and it looks damn useful also combining with a lifting bollard and you can set up some pretty cool stuff. how much power does the smart winch have?
  8. footlocking i think thats referring to Dan.... that exhausting thing nonone really likes doing unless its a special occasion.
  9. Haha I found it hilarious. Ive watched it about 6 times now.
  10. You can also just move the body of the cinch for a less dramatic result.
  11. Arran mate I sorta think thats overly invasive and not really best practise bro. i think if your using srt you should always isolate unions. If not for the trees health ,for your own. If a branch snaps you could be facing a shockload on your system. if that happens on my ascenders it won't be pretty. normally my lines are set and isolated within the first ten min it only takes an extra min max. maybe its just me but i try to not snap any branches when I'm doing a deadwood or prune.
  12. with an 8 oz i can accurately throw to about 25 meters anything after that takes a little longer and to be honest its not all that often. I posted a link in my comment to the line i use and its much slicker then dyna glide , i found that stuff to be nice to throw but like sandpaper (friction wise) and you would need a heavier bag. I'm over in germany so the trees are much the same as you lads , tilia , beech, aesculus, oak etc same sorta stuff.
  13. 16 oz? wow thats heavy , how high can you throw that? its always interesting to hear about other peoples throwing........... and i double bag when needed:sneaky2:
  14. faltimers are lightyears better then stein and for me my throwline saves time and body , wether it be removing odd hangers or stuck cambium savers , throwing to my tip ,setting a traverse or a separate line for inline anchoring ..... its worth spending money on something thats better quality. I had my stein for two days and it broke. I've now had my faltimer for two years and in that time my workmate even dropped a tree on it and theres nothing wrong. for my faltimer I added an extra bottom out of really thing plywood and then used tape to strengthen and cover it for storage of two throwlines .... this extra hard bottom means i can't fold it in quarters but in the 6 months i have had it I'm yet to have problems with tanglng . thats just my two cents for throwing i use 8 ouncers with this Freeworker - Stiffline Dyneema Throw Line - climb up high! with an extra 10 ounce on the end for isolating.
  15. what sort of success rates are you getting ? i did a bit of grafting kiwifruit back in the days before climbing trees.
  16. This guy...... as modest as they come eh adam:001_tt2:
  17. the kiwi sun is a killer eh Adam. lets swap I'm getting sick of grey already mate , I've only had half a days sunshine since arriving back.
  18. cheers bro. The first crane was a 60 tonner and on full reach we were good for 3 ton picks and the bigger one was an 80 tonner with 40 ton counterweights, on full reach we were good for 5.5.
  19. Haha bastard , how's summer then eh ? The acer top was 6.5 and the oak was I think 4.5 bro . Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  20. I've found the ultimate combo with volcano and tach . With a variation of a three and three vt ...... It's like a spider jack over ten meters and it grabs every time (climbing ddrt) Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. Thanks steven. a part from the first day it was a pretty ugly week weatherise but you know how it is we just had to get it done. The boys were troopers.
  22. good eye adam yup its a 661 with a new super light 28'' bar ..... that combo is unbeatable for power to weight ratio.
  23. cheers Ben , yeah bro its a spacer and you have to thread it on through the tail. yeah us guys from down under aren't used to that white cold stuff a haha .
  24. sweet vid rich . theres something about deadwooding on a nice day that is just so damn enjoyable . Im keen to see some more footage of the bulldog in action so keep the vids coming .
