  1. I'm from nz where were leather boots , chaps and top handles on the ground are completely normal thing and allowed. I know a few of you on here would scoff and say that all of these things are inherently dangerous and bad practise but each country is different and when it comes to ppe i think that the uk would defiantly be one of the front runners to try and wean out friction hitches due to the human error side of things.
  2. thats not entirely true adam , although friction hitches are standard learning in most places , here in Germany all the schools teach people to use lockjacks. I'm not entirely sure as to why but i think it has a little to do with money and a little to do with being able to have a base for all students. you have your basic A level tree climbing in which you are allowed to climb with a handsaw and this is taught with lockjack. I am a huge fan of playing with knots and materials i always change to find different combos and it keeps it interesting but i will have to agree with the idea of mechanical devices becoming the norm. In this day and age of health and safety there will always be a quest to find a governed and standard device or devices that can be used for our industry. Some countries will jump on this bandwagon faster then others but i think it will happen at some stage , friction hitches will ,in the foreseeable future be the norm but i do think that mechanicals will be making more of an imprint in the years to come
  3. suspenders keep them sitting up a little higher and take the stress off the crotch area . we all wear them at our work and the two guys who wear them without suspenders have holes in the crotch. mine are just over a year old with no problems.
  4. do you use suspenders with them mate?
  5. Today's job . Still a garage drag and some flat rigging but at least today it was acer and we didn't have to get it up stairs and through a garage like yesterday's dead elm Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  6. you nailed it I think mate . Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  7. Euro poison is ce rated so has to conform to certain standards so they made it with more stretch and the American poision needs no ce certification to be used in America Aussie Nz etc so it's more static . Just like cougar blue from Nz also is not c e marked . Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. this is what i was climbing on half a year ago , really nice never binds. I prefer a longer knot as it gives a much smoother release. 10 mm op on tach
  9. thats a thing of beauty mate:thumbup1: tell us how you get on with it.
  10. Ive also got one Adam and I'm aware of the risks that go with using it over this side of the world but I was just pointing out that for employed climbers in uk and Germany you need to be using a c e marked item. I am still under the impression that srtwp is not allowed in workplace scenarios so that in itself is another thing completely but say for instance you are using the rope wrench ddrt , this would be allowed and you would not need a ce marking but if your were to use the hitch hiker ddrt, this would still not be allowed due to how it is setup. IM no H&S Nazi or expert but it was just said so that maybe people who read these posts who are thinking about purchasing these items for work ,are aware of what it means to climb on these bits of equipment.
  11. thats clear mate but i was asking why it would not need one ?
  12. are you sure ? the rw isn't life support as your hitch is separate but with the hh your directly tied onto the device
  13. ideally id like to set them up with whoopies but once there spliced on there , thats it . i think getting a small strong soft shackle and using it with the spacer to connect it to slings means i can still use them for other things . krabs are quicker but a workmate had one smash onto a stem spine first and fail, he was pushing his luck on it in all honesty but it still could have been worse. the pics off the net but instead of the bowline a shackle
  14. thats one a friend of mine spliced up haha no chance with the pinto I'm afraid , we were talking about using it for big wood instead of tying a bowline under the half hitch . i think there is even a way to have one directly spliced onto the end of the rigging line , but he's going to trial it and see how it goes . at the moment I'm using steel beiners for connectors and its not ideal , the pintos won't last as long and i can see lots of little things that annoy me about using the combo even if they are for redirects. did u splice up your own mog ?
  15. Don't use dyneema for hitch cord mate , let alone a 6mm one . the melting point is very low.

  17. Now that is really a good idea mate , I've played with a few things but this one really looks nice.
  18. that depends a lot on the situation it was used and how much rope was in the system but if you used it on the end of a rigging line and half hitched it first I'm sure that it would take out a large amount of force and shock loading. i think I'm going to get a couple to see how they work and use them for connecting my pintos . i think they can be a very useful bit of equipment.
  19. not shock loading my pintos, just for redirects. they will be also connected to poly slings so the stretch should still be there. don't worry we have all seen the video
  20. Freeworker - Dyneema Rope Shakle - climb up high! i know a few lads that have them , i think I'm going to get some and use em for connecting pintos to slings , easier then splicing
  21. use a pantin, makes everything a lot easier.
  22. Just pop it in my account bro I will look after it , setting up stuff in Nz is pretty easy so I would bring enough for a couple weeks then transfer from your acc. I think the overseas transactions with your debit card will cost a lot. Or you can talk to your bank about a card that you get a certain amount of transactions overseas for free , I got one through my German bank . Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  23. if you want some climbing boots, look at some approach shoes, they are far better to climb in.
  24. get some top quality base layers and a waterproof and breathable climbing jacket , free sell a couple of good ones , waterproof boots are essential.
  25. get a rope guide
