  1. And qualifies for Annual Investment Allowance as plant & machinery at 100% (if within maximum limits of AIA for that year. VAT back & AIA is quite an incentive!
  2. I failed..... Breakfast, sofa, Daily Politics, kip......!
  3. I think I agree, but don't really know what the question was..... Is this in the wrong thread?
  4. RIDICULOUS! No allowance for mayonnaise on ?! Fake News!!
  5. No mate, not at all! I was referring/ reflecting on the situation that gave rise to the origin of the thread, not any specific contribution you made. Didn’t mean to give that impression. The definitions of what a DPV is is reasonably easy to define, getting a definitive weight answer from the manufacturer (in a usable / transferable format) is what I’ve given up on. Looking back, and considering all the contributions, I’m happy to accept that if I can’t figure it out definitively, perhaps plod / VOSA might have better things to occupy themselves with as well!
  6. I think it might have done Mr E.....! (distracted at mo, reasons to follow by phone) Are you saying your intent was not the purgatory of a "multicultural" existence in a post industrial, mixed residential / brown field urban sprawl???
  7. Missed that! And that's how easily things can get out of control..... What Trump meant was.... "....Expand diplomacy with X,Y,Z...." What he said was.... "Explode......"
  8. I'm not quite keeping up with you there Stubby.....
  9. I never got a definitive answer from Toyota, or from the many and varied contributions here.... I just rely upon the Tory scum decimation of public services to reduce the number of traffic police to a point where it's unlikely, on balance, that I'd get a ticket on the rare occasions I put my boot down. Obviously, the theory falls over when speed cameras are brought into the equation but they seem to be dominant on A & M roads which I rarely use Headache returns......
  10. The most historically significant areas maintained and opened to the public, the back room areas reduced to a state of dormancy - minimum maintenance to prevent decay. Had a similar conversation with Dr Mynors the night before the Barchams seminar he did a year or 2 back... He wasn't buying it, but what could he possibly know about historic buildings....
  11. We've had this conversation before haven't we? Didn't we settle on Brum? An old military base somewhere remote, easy to provide security. The saving on residence exposes and (especially for Abbot, taxi fares) would be immense!
  12. The true scandal is that that amount of money (and disruption to the business of government) is being invested in a building which is entirely unsuited to its modern purpose. It should be partially mouth-balled and partially opened as a public access monument with the seat of government relocated to a modern, fit-for-purpose, self sufficient building / complex which provides accommodation and conferencing facilities for MP and the mechanics of government (maybe in Milton Keynes.) It is the DUTY of public servants to exercise due diligence, VfM, accountability and thrift when spending tax payers money. This is as blatant an example of the opposite of that as might be imagined.
  13. Bang out of order! Can't be un-read and is likely to cause sleep loss.....
  14. Once I've fab'ed up an off-set bracket so that the brush is outside the wheel base it'll be very handy!
  15. I haven't gone big yet, but the size of tree would be limited by the width of the jaws opening or the lift capacity of the base machine. Not dissimilar for either option I would have thought? It's not like placing a face cut or pushing over with wedges in the desired direction, the fell is with the direction of lean. I guess you could give it a tweak as it went over but it would be tricky and variable in effect. The logic was that if in a tight spot or accuracy was essential, it would probably mean this was the wrong tool for the job anyway. A grab would be better but it still presents the stability concern which would mean only a relatively small diameter tree could be tackled. If it were lots of small trees in a tight spot then, in that circumstance, I'd agree, the grab would be better... As with so many things.... Compromise on one aspect to gain on another according to your best guess of current and future need.
  16. Service providers don't 'own' customers, the only situation where a service provider has a degree of control over a customer (notwithstanding contracts) is the option to to behave in such a way as to lose them....
  17. It was a similar yes/no option, of course - but the question could not have been more different. What you appear to be suggesting, is that because it's a binary option, as before, the question is the same? Like shall I fly or shall I walk yes/no so they must have the same implications.... Bizarre!
  18. The obvious flaw in the great (theoretical) philosophy you seem to be presenting, is that for it to succeed, it would require ALL parties / nations / races to subscribe to it in order that all of humankind might proceed in a common beneficial direction - together. It is doomed to fail, resulting in the dominance of one over the other, if only 1 or some parties subscribe to the philosophy where others don't. It's an extinction event for those that are tolerant and a dominant end game for those aren't. I wonder if there is any 1 single example of a cultural entity that might immediately spring to mind.... Shouldn't be too difficult, it is plainly written in their guiding doctrine....
  19. That's not entirely accurate, and you aren't going to convince many here that you don't already know that Mr E! Are you suggesting that the 1975 referendum was in any way similar to the 2016 one in it's question or consequence? If so, you really are grasping at straws.....
  20. The choice was a very considered one. Cut and grab has the potential to transfer high lever loads to a relatively small machine with narrow wheel base giving rise to the very real potential for toppling it over - not good, plus it's heavier. Fine on a big swing shovel but not on the smaller MO (just my view.). Plus, it restricts you to cutting out trees that stand vertical only. The restrictions of having a fixed plane cutting head are far greater than the advantages of the rotator. Cut and release provides the advantage, through the rotator, of a degree of directional felling capability but most importantly, allows for cuts from the vertical right through to the horizontal plane - an obvious benefit if doing hedge reductions or the first cuts of lower crown pruning etc. It is perfectly possible to cut and let fall, then pick up and transport using the shear, or fell, cut to length and stack so as to come back with forks or grab and lift a load for transport. I guess it depends upon the scope of the majority of the work the unit is required for - for me, cut and hold was the poor relation on all counts.
