  1. i some times use new moter oil i place of chain oil never had a problem with it, i have tried veg oil but i find it to thin.
  2. Been having the same issues with my Haix though i have had them for years so i guess i cant take them back! my solution was to dig out my old sthil boots and alternate them so they at least started the day dry.
  3. My 357xp is my fave 10 this year but still goes like a good un and she put up with a lot of abuse from me in the early years.
  4. Very sound advice there, the wellies are awful. and its easy to get quite warm felling as it is so i dread to think what having chaps on over trousers would do!
  5. Hi sounds like you have the right idea in wanting to get some training before setting too and having a go. NPTC small trees is a good course and will be suitable for your needs however as you are not planning on undertaking professional work a Lantra chainsaw course could be more suitable for you, they should be cheaper they are aimed at farm users. In terms of what saw to chose I would buy a Husqvarna 550xp with a 15inch bar. I am currently running 2 of these felling hardwood for fire wood and have been very impressed with them. Husqvarna saws have a good reputation for lasting i have a 10 year old 357xp which still gets frequent use and runs lovely.
  6. there are large Holm Oak forests on the chalk downland on the south coast of the isle of wight where it has become naturalised. it can also be found in many areas of unmanaged woodland on the island in mixed stands with native trees. I have found seedlings in my parents garden when they lived there, their was no obvious seed souse so had probably been distributed by jays or squirrels in the same way that they would spread the native acorns. Which would suggest to me that it is invasive here and that with climate change it is likely to become more so.
  7. Very glad to here you are all so happy with the 550 as i have 2 winging there way here at the moment cant wait for them to arrive!
  8. I have always used AGV never had a virus get past it and it has none of nortons annoying traits

  12. You could look into what timber sp are being imported and used by the joinery trade which could be grown here. a lot of guys around here use things like Tulipwood, american white ash and american white oak. could these be viable crops here their is a ready made market?

  14. Forest Nudist resort like a centre parks but less dressed
  15. Oak sapwood cut from our Waney Boards, looks like split logs that have been planed and burns brilliantly having been drying for 5 years
  16. County made a 4000/4 which was a big wheel little wheel tractor (as opposed to the equal wheeled county's) I used to drive one for a bloke in Cumbria, it was an awesome little thing would go every where, and had a James Jones logging blade and fitted double drum igland. Only problem i can see with one of these is that their were not a huge amount made and they are highly desirable on the agricultural show/preservation scene which drives the price up.
  17. I want one, not sure what jobs i would have for it but i am sure that can come second! lol
