  1. I like pragmatic tree officers, in particular. Can't save and or replace them all!
  2. My, this has gone downhill quicker than Marie's Bobsleigh thread
  3. All I've read about harvesting in Poland and the Baltic states is that it seems to be very unregulated and large tracts of virgin ancient and semi ancient woodland are being felled. I'm sure (or I hope) that that isn't the entire picture, so was just hoping to be a bit better educated.
  4. The tree man is there to sort all the trees and tree related problems, don't expect anyone else to look at reports, do anything related to trees etc. That's for the arb to sort out
  5. I'd try a quick percolation test in a new small test pit, to see how quick, or not, your planting pits, trenches, will naturally drain.
  6. Once had a very irate TO land on site screaming stop, all the trees are protected. Site manager produced a letter from a very junior planning officer stating, incorrectly, that nothing on site was protected. By then most of the roots of any remaining trees had been removed during a reduced dig. TO was not pleased.
  7. Had this conversation with a National Park Arb officer who had consented a reduction on a Horse Chestnut to 8-10 M (owner put the app in) I'd put another app in afterwards to fell the tree, pointing out that 8-10m was a standing stem. She, the TO, said she wasn't fussed about keeping the tree due to its current condition, so simply consented the clients application. She was then quite happy to consent my application to fell it. I suppose that sometimes it's easier to consent a bad spec, rather than get the applicant to submit another one that goes further and removes the tree.
  8. Would a Stihl or Husky be best for that? Discuss...
  9. You can only blame the LA for that, they would have required a tree survey, method statement and protective fencing and should have conditioned adherence to the AMS. Once the site isn't complying to the conditions of planning consent there is loads of comeback. They can come to site and close it then and there.
  10. If only everyday was like that... Never mind, an ideal job to ease into the weekend
  11. I took the mum of our two rottie boys to work one day. She was great in the cab on the way to the job. We got set up, I started climbing and one of the groundsman came round a bit sheepish. "you need to get down and get the combican out of the pickup" The dog was now in guard mode and wouldn't let anyone back into the cab Her two sons are exactly the same. Big soft bears, until they're in a vehicle then they go into mental mode. You fill up with fuel and the 4X4 is boincing up and down on its springs cos someone dares to get within 50ft of it.
  12. I would so too! Used to be a time that a certain female TO (when there wasn't many female TOS) was frequently in the news for prosecuting offenders. I believe that she's moved on, but good to hear that in her absence others have grasped the reins and continued her works.
  13. Maybe someone can count the rings, just to clarify the issue.
  14. You're so sharp tonight you'll cut yourself if you're not careful!
  15. I'm sure that my MP will be really interested in this
  16. Things need to change so that it isn't worth it then, doesn't it? Rescind the planning consent or whatever, just change things so that it isn't financially feasible to take the micky.
