  1. Its something I never quite get. If forest helmets are certificated to withstand top impact etc and climbing are above that with side impact as well and exceed forestry helmets EN number then why not make all helmets to the higher standard?? I know which helmet I prefer when looking up a tree - the one with the chin strap!! This lid looks great, i look forward to trying one on
  2. Image uploading - Click on this image >> << on the top row of the menu, which is next to this one when you click reply and then choose your file and upload A few from me attached:
  3. Superb matey, very nice finish
  4. Have to admit that is one reason id like to try one on and see how it fits
  5. Glad it weren't just me who thought that Ive searched for it but cant find anything
  6. Are there any major differences between the forest and climbing versions that you can see Tree spotter? Looks the same apart from the chin strap?? Personally i think they look awesome and very current to the standards of the fire n rescue crews. I have thought for some time that arb helmets are basic for what they need to do, and yes they work (to a standard as well) but so much more could be done with them. These Protos are another level i think and something we will see more of in the future. Price - i dont have a problem with it - how much do you value your head? And speaking with a family member of someone who had a bike accident and is left with a permanant brain injury, I know first hand how important head protection is! Yes please Jonsie when you get one!!
  7. Got a call this afternoon to a kitten who got itself up a tree at 8am this morning. Only took 12 minutes to get up, rescue and get it down again in a bag and most of that was getting its feet in the bag I didnt charge for it and ask for the owner to make a charitable donation to Kent Air Ambulance Only one pic of the cat up the tree Anyone else done this recently
  8. Hop onto google and search up hopes grove nurseries in Kent. They are local to me but they do trade mail order for excellent quality plants. Big selection and i have always had fab quality plants from them.
  9. pictures of what your currently working with would be handy
  10. Thanks for the additional comments guys. My friend is now pretty certain its a council rented property and her neighbours don't seem want to come to the front door to talk, let alone discuss a problem with the trees such is the way with modern society I guess. I will update you with any developments but so far its not looking hopeful.
  11. Thanks HCR, it may well come to the councillor route since her neighbour shrugs their shoulders due to either the language barrier or sheer bone idleness. So far my friend has been unable to find out who exactly owns the house which is rented apart from its not private so is either HA or council. I will report back any developments but the councillor route sounds likely. James
  12. Thank you to everyone who has posted and commented. I have passed on the info to my friend and they are going to try and approach the neighbour once more to find out more details of the council / HA involved, however given the significant language and cultural barriers involved it may well be falling on deaf ears. Thanks again all James
  13. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/rigging-roping/32860-you-think-you-technical-rigger.html Do you mean this one? Nice video and methods although id question the need for them given the road nearby they are working off of?
  14. Ello folks Ive been asked by a friend who lives in Birmingham city to enquire if they can get their neighbour to have some Sycamore trees removed as they are blocking light and making a mess of their garden. Now.. the thing is. Their neighbour frequents a Housing association property and are foreign, dont speak very good english and not very well off. The neighbours said to my friend they can she can pay to have the work done to their trees but they (the neighbours) cannot afford it themselves. 1/ Is there any legal route she can take to force her neighbour to have the trees removed? 2/ Is there any way that their neighbour can have the housing association / council pay for the trees to be removed? Since they are tenants in a council property surely the care of the trees falls within the remit of the council? Notes - > The tree does not block light from the house just the garden, i think there is no laws for trees blocking light from gardens but i thought i would ask. > The trees were young saplings when the current neighbours moved in > Not in a conservation area to our knowledge. This might seem an odd post but given they are stuck for answers i thought i might ask, especially anyone on here in Birmingham, if they know of a legal route to take? The council so far have shrugged their shoulders over the problem. Any advice gratefully received James

  18. Okay so putting the fact its coming from Germany to one side - its a chinese saw and i've had one before it worked hard for a few years and was perfectly serviceable however now I have Stihl I wouldnt go back if you paid me! It looks like he could do with sharpening that chain up properly in the vid! On the plus side, he doesnt claim it to be anything that it isnt - IE no Husky stickers - and it has a nice blow mould box. If you bought it for 40 quid I really wouldnt loose sleep over it - it will do what you want if you need a second back up saw which you dont intend to use too hard. Enjoy
  19. Sorry to bring up an old post, but any more info on your gcrs?? Some pics would be great and where did you source it from? Looks a fab tool
  20. Must be Sequoiadendron giganteum Pendulum then? I didnt know there was such a plant but having searched it there are a fair few images - one of which is here:
  21. larix decidua?
  22. Interesting idea and one that would appeal to me if you could control it. I guess there is always an option of having the line on a reel?? Either way someone has already adapted it for tree work as i found on you tube
  23. I was 7 as well, and slept right through to the following morning. My father was full time then, mainly doing landscaping and garden maintenance but had chainsaws as well - long before the days of PPE though - at least for him! The phone never stopped ringing for 2 weeks, my dad went out the following morning to get to a client who owned a hotel on the Goudhurst Road, he never made it to the hotel as he spent two days clearing trees from the route he needed to take! I think he was busy for 6 weeks clearing trees and mess from the storm. When he eventually got to the hotel there was some old ladies there who's car had been completely destroyed by a tree - they weren't all bothered as it meant they could stay longer Our house is first on the end of a terrace of 6, and while every other house suffered tile loss ours was seemingly untouched. It was only when dad was doing the extension it became apparent that the entire roof had lifted up and sat back down again! All our own trees were untouched by the storm but I remember the landscape changing - the trees we used to climbed as kids had gone over and were eventually cleared. I remember the images on the news of the forests and locally bedgebury pinetum - huge mess.
  24. In the past few months I purchase a load of old long and short sleeved shirts from charity shops - good quality designer names for a couple of quid a go - i think it gives the right impression to arrive in a collared shirt and i find them very durable and being cotton they are breathable too. Id like to get a decent jacket for winter soon though.
  25. As to names, I actually think in the arb world that using your name is better than picking a business name which sounds tree like? Especially if your new to the market as it helps to install confidence in people through transparency? If you do choose a name, try and take in your county name as it will help for local works too. And I think when advertising, having your name on any form of advert goes a long way and landline number in addition to a mobile number.
