  1. My advice would be to do CS30/31, you will learn a hell of a lot and its totally worth the money even for non pro's. And then go and spend money on proper PPE (boots, trousers, hat and gloves) and dont skimp on those either... You only have one set of limbs
  2. Lets try that again... here ya go... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=439183906135932&set=a.4391838661359%2036.113372.104025486318444&type=1&ref=nf
  3. (heres the pic) does look canker like to me too
  4. New genetics project could help save the ash tree see that link above for details of the genetics program which is targeting the disease, so far no cure just kill. A full thread on the disease can be found on here by click below http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/tree-health-care/49969-chalara-fraxinea-generic-thread.html All suspected cases still need to be reported before removal can take place - see this link: Forestry Commission - Pests and diseases - Ash dieback (Chalara fraxinea)
  5. Hey folks I have a client who has a Liquidambar which as a severe crack up one stem. We have already done a reduction on the tree but I am thinking it could benefit from being bolted to stop the crack going any further? I can't seem to find any threads on such techniques and wonder if anyone can help or advice? Questions 1/ I'm thinking at least two 10 or 12mm threaded rods with square plates to act as washers and nylock nuts? 2/ Does anyone think it should have a cable higher up to support the overall weight as well? 3/ I've read on some sites that its best to remove the cambium layer from the area where the plate will sit against the bark? yes or no? Pics hopefully below - the highlighted red oval is the area of the split - see how its pealing away from the tree on the larger scale image. Additional info - a large branch broke out of the tree previously hence the 'hole' in the middle area - this is recovering well and new growth from below is coming up to infill Many thanks in advance! James
  6. Get the number for the LA office of the TO and check on Monday morning before starting the saw. Remember you will need the address and/or postcode of the site you are working. Its a simple phone call to find out and always check for Conservation Areas as well as TPO's.
  7. Thanks Matt, i thought it might have been something to do with istagram. Think i'll have a play around on photoshop on the main pc next week and see what i can achieve after some further reading
  8. Found them on google for you, heres the relevant web page Christmas Trees - Cheviot Trees Delivery by courier is available, certainly seem a good source
  9. Farming Simulator | Official Website theres the mac osx demo version edit - although the demo is only available in german for mac
  10. Hey matt, fantastic set of pics Can I be really cheeky and ask how do you achieve that effect on the pic on your avatar? I have seen it on some time lapse videos as well but cannot find the name of, or how to do the effect Ta, James
  11. I'm with them, they offer great service, advice, tailored policies at a superb price and best of all for me, they are local
  12. My advice is to definitely diversify further, I did and it worked extremely well. I have doubled my profits in the last year by not turning away work to others and doing the tree works on all my clients properties myself. Many are on going work on 3 year cycles with Willows etc so it works well along maintenance jobs. On a few properties I have started with border clean outs, manuring then planting then some hard landscaping and tree refurbs and removals. Of course new work through word of mouth has come off the back of this too and new work via the website (although i need to sit down and rebuild my website this winter) In the times we live in it makes perfect sense to have as many strings to your bow as possible. As to advertising, whilst I haven't needed to do any for the last 18 months - apart from my website / fb, I would offer it as a total service under one company, this way you can make the most of promoting all your services to new potential clients.
  13. Plus - One who listens and has a willingness to adapt and learn to how the climber works.
  14. It looks nice and I had considered making my own similar to this. Just one question though - can you get this LOLER tested since its home made without any specific testing parameters, breaking strain etc? Just wondering, not a dig in any way.
  15. Now they are awesome! Finally someone has made some small chippers with in feed rollers on road and tracked formats. Greenmech and Timberwolf take note i say Anyway while looking at the site ive found there are in face three models of the tracked R225, two with honda engines and one with a subaru engine. The 13HP Honda model you guys have looked at : Negri, il marchio verde - Biotrituratori - R225 - R225BHHP13C Then there is the 14HP Subaru model: Negri, il marchio verde - Biotrituratori - R225 - R225BRHP14C And finally a slightly more powerful and better spec'd Honda 15HP model: Negri, il marchio verde - Biotrituratori - R225 - R225BHHP15C Id favour the bigger 15HP lump as the spec (google it) is far higher and with the addition of the no stress its more like it Here is a pic of the combo drum, all looks very impressive Get on these Jonesie, i wanna demo
  16. At the end of the day, the sh1t stops with the person with the chainsaw. Total transparency with the T/O & LA will be the best option. If its a problem and they have granted permission on something which is incorrect then it must make it void. Think also to the future, you can find / choose other customers, ya cant choose the TO you have to deal with for this or future other work.
  17. Great job and excellent pics fella
  18. Finished today apart from a 10 minute favour tomorrow, might consider some work around the 7th Currently deciding on the final list of what to buy the other half for crimbo while wrapping others, and on a tea break. Have a good one all
  19. Dont do anything without clearing it with the T/O
  20. A quick search around on the crane front has thrown up this company: About Universal Crane Mats Ltd - Universal Crane Mats Ltd - The UK load spread specialists Looks like a probably source. I wouldnt mind getting some proper ones for a hired mewp i use as currently we use 600 square ply wood pads
  21. EN 12492: 2000 - Helmets for mountaineers Some interesting reading about EN12492 can be found on that link, along with others on the site including sit / work positioning harnesses. I think with time more and more industries will come together to form better solutions to PPE, however there will probably never be one helmet for all applications. This new lid here certainly seems to push the current products on the market forward in to being even better in terms of safety and design
  22. I'll distract the girlfriend, you deal with the tree...
  23. Thanks treespotter. It does make you wonder why there are two standards. Surely the most protection is the best protection. Be interested to know on specific differences if they both come with the chin straps?
  24. I looked at that one myself on the bay, looks a solid build but equally couldn't find extra details.
  25. Yup thats all close board from McVeigh Parker, Headcorn depot. Always had good service and quality of product from there
