  1. Heard a good one today. But it was opposite side of the story. One of the lifeboat lads neighbours actually cut down his tree. Removed the fence panel and felled it in two onto her garden. He has been having land disputes with her over boundaries. But this was all sorted by solicitors. It is his land. Suffice to say the people who done the work where not the professional type. He said that all he could do was watch as they refused to stop when asked, they tried cutting straight for the bottom but it started to split so had to ladder up. He is persuing her for damages and a replacement tree. Trunk dia was 14inch home oak. The cheapest price for same tree of a similar size (but a but smaller obviously) was 6000, She had come onto his land and cut down his tree. His ins company are taking her to the cleaners. The company she had in to do the work has been unable to contact. So she is facing the brunt of it.
  2. Not for the engine. It's on the radiator. Easy way is to take the pipes off the engine top and bottom and just flush through.
  3. Brilliant that's one to remember, I like that. But of course most alts arnt easy to get to
  4. Here is the one I done a couple of months back
  5. Hahaha no the drum drives a nylon gear that drives this one that is part of the oil pump
  6. Yes to this. I have never really understood the plant engines. A tractor engine will run on it and not get addicted. But use it once in plant engines and they will never start without it again. We also called it dope, still do. Personally I hate the stuff. It never helps and fixing the fix as to why it's needed is always better. On diesels it's normally because the glow plugs are shot, if it has any.
  7. I recently done a hillux. The owner brought the tipper body from a firm up North and I just fitted it all and done all the extra bits. Will find out the name. But in honesty the tipper body that turned up was made from 4 by 2 steel box section and there was two layers. One for the chassis and one for the tipper. This raised the back by around 9 inches with the gap for the buffers. If I had made the body myself it would have been from smaller box so it was lower and only a single section, the other parts would be bolted to the chassis. I don't know anyone I'm affraid but ensure that whoever he uses doesn't make it too thick and bulky or it will not look right on the back.
  8. What he said. You need the very thick cables that are used for batteries. Not jump leads. And having a good connection soldered on the ends. Jump leads are not meant for a long haul of power. Only a short burst. Make sure the earth contentions are also very good. Clean the connections up so it's on good shiny metal. No paint at all. And also ensure the terminals on the battery are clean. You will need to source some power from a motor for the long work. A battery will not power for long and soon run flat. Could you not just attach the pump to a small engine once it's mounted. Would be a much easier option.
  9. Pull the exhaust off. You will soon know
  10. Think I need some staff.... Just got a call to do some digger work tomorrow as well. Even if I work until late im still not making progress.
  11. No it's not Dave's, it's just a bit bigger lol. Yes Barrie I guess it could, but just havent had the time, as soon as a tool gets put away I need it straight away. So not much point, and so far as soon as one vehicle has gone another is rolling or tracking its way in...... Not even had the time to do any saws, been turning them away. Unless spud wants me to give his email so they can send them his way! !
  12. In for the next few days at least Renault b120 6.5t ripper 4x4, new transfer box, winch cable needs new splice, alt not working, and tipped ram leaking from seals. Oh and a couple of shots of big workshop for barrie
  13. The fact that it needs a lot of fuel to get going would point me towards a compression issue or crank seals.
  14. Yes. You wouldn't take you kids out down the beach in the car with no ins? Would you?
  15. Signed. I've seen cyclists knock people over and just carry on. Also seen them hit cars and get up look around and just ride off. Ins is needed for everything else so why not cyclists.
  16. What about in feed speed. Is it too high?
  17. Yeah. It is easier tho. But the gear is more expensive. The amount needed is unreal. All the big tools. Plus a compressor and welder is essential.
  18. Fencing wore tensioners.... Can never get them on right. Barbed wire is the spawn of satan himself aswell. And today it was chains for transporting on to flatbed, wound it up and it jumped off the chain shortener. Caught my arm and it ruddy well hurt.
  19. I'm enjoying an empty bench. Sort of. Need to start a new thread. Maybe what's in your workshop but too big for the bench thread, thread..... Today I have. Replaced the hitch on a Massey 35x, old one was seized solid. Serviced a daewoo 13t 360. Repaired a split hose on a kabota 3t, nice and not so easy job, why they thought they needed that many bolts to hold the floor pans in I will never know. Took delivery of a new project. Renault b120 four wheel drive, look very much like a unimog. Hydraulic winch. Hydraulic services. Air run boxes. I'm really thinking about doing mobile plant now. Might get a transit and kit it out. I like working on the bigger stuff.
  20. That's brilliant. But I do have a few suggestions. Power drill. Used to dril into the fingernail to remove the extreme pain caused when missing the object you are hitting with the hammer, and then covering you in your own blood when you get through the nail..... Box cutter. Also a very precise surgical instrument for trying to cut your fingers off.
  21. Yeah I know that. Just trying to make sure I don't need to go and book into the local mental hospital and get my nice comfy jacket on.....
  22. Just thought I might update those that are interested.... Had a few phone calls in the past week or so from people so thank you, it was nice. Even if I did have to cut one short as I was about to lose my stomach contents. Sorry. Been on tablets for a while now. Seem to be helping a little bit. Doctors are a little bit concerned as I have also had a cough for a short while but they think it's nothing much. Had a specialist other day. Laid out a huge and IMO very hard to follow diet routine. Hard as they want so much fresh fruit and veg that it doesn't leave me much else to eat. And I don't want to eat at all really. I'm only managing one meal a day anyway. Can't eat breakfast as I then find out what morning sickness is like for pregnant women...FYI not very nice... They are looking for surgery options and complete removal, only problem is the location of it is right at the entrance to the stomach. And could really screw up for the future. But for now I'm still working and trying to keep going. Still get a good days work in when needed but relax for a few days after. The workshop is a great help as I then have no rush and if I need to can just stop for a bit. Being doing the machine driving as it's not as physical as hand cutting and find the days are easier. I just end up paying for a long stretch of hard work and have to have a break. Also feeling very very tired in the evenings and find myself dropping off a bit early in front of the telly.
  23. Can't find a thread or posts that I had on last night. Me and stubby where having a bit of banter. Now I know it's not good but I can't for the life of me remember what the thread was about or why we started the banter. It was a good laugh.... He said something and I replied with a few smileys. Sorry but that's all I can really remember. Can't find any of it in my posts either. Either I'm going completely mad (would explain a few things) or it's been removed. Any mods tell me?? Long shot I know and thanks in advance.
  24. Ok first thing I would try is a clout from a hammer while someone turns the key. The starter maybe stuck. When was it last used before it wouldn't start? If there is a click then. Yeh solenoid is fine, if no click then solenoid. Can get around this with a big electrical screwdriver and jump the in and out on yeh solenoid terminals. If this doesn't turn the engine then it's the brushes in the starter. Not hard to do with a socket set to be honest. Best I can do as I don't know any plant fitters up your way.
