  1. My first was a BSA super sport. Loved it. Once I got the scope sorted and packed the rear mount up a bit it was lovely. Mate has a falcon, lovely little co2 gun. Single shot, very light, very compact.
  2. At the moment I've got a discovery, I will be using a trailer first. Yes I know it looks piekie ish. But that's all I've got. Want to upgrade to a crewcab hilux or similar. But a trailer with ramp tail gate is all I will need first. Should get mowers, rubbish and anything else in it for now.
  3. I do see what you are saying as I'm always laughing at vans that have no job too small, or have so many types of jobs sign written your not really sure what hey actually do. I will be going for hedge cutting and small tree removal, leaving the bigger stuff for bigger companies or passing on details of other companies that could do them. Grass cutting will be good aswell, domestic only at first. This is the outline for what I will be doing. But this type of work is really seasonal so during winter I will be working for the arborist, and driving machines. This is the main outline but watch this space as it could all change. I'm not looking at anyone's post as a criticism post, all information is gladly received and give food for thought. I know it's all going to be a big mess until I get going, but I like a good challenge and I like to challenge myself now and again. Thanks for all the posts by the way.
  4. Just don't do it on a nice block paved driveway.
  5. Nah they will just look in the wrong places as usual, they won't want to spy on the real terrorists as it would be against there human rights.
  6. I'm a bit do everything, the mechanics side is not really a route I would like to take, I do the fixes for my current boss apron his saws, trucks, mowers, chipper, etc. I also do a few for people around the local area, I've been told several times that I have a bit of a flair for it, my old man taught me a lot when I was younger. But it's not a route I want to take, i enjoy it a bit, nothing like getting an engine that won't run and fixing it then hearing it fire up knowing I done that.. But I would not be able to compete with the local dealers, so the mechanics will stay as a bit of a hobby type thing. The tractor driving was from working on a farm for about 5 years and I still do some driving now and again, when harvest arrives I will probably be doing some again. The digger, dozer, cpcs stuff was from work ing on a few building sites for a few years, this work started from the farm work getting a forklift ticket then 360 ticket. All I had to get was cscs and I was set for building sites. This will probably stay as I have a few contacts still and would still be able to work on them, plus I love using a 15+ ton machine. So the rest is what I will be working on, I will still have loyaltys to the arborist I work with now and if he needs me then I will work, he is very good and has been very flexible with my other jobs and has in the past moved things around so I can do my other work, as I have moved my jobs around for tree work. Hope this clears a few things up for you mate, it's a bit confusing to me but I can do many jobs, and have done many jobs. Im very versatile in what I can do and it doesn't take me long to pick up on new skills, I learnt to climb by watching and copying. Then I would find what works best for me personally and adapt to it. So if I post on other subjects it's because I'm interested in it or had it before, but like sooooo many I'm always learning and hope I will stay learning.
  7. I have felling tickets, if it means climbing then I'm not doing it and I will gladly tell the client so, or I would contract the climbing out to a climber. Or the boss, if he wants it. There is a lot to consider on all this and I've thought long and hard about it for a while now. It has been said about needing to get Certs before starting out, fine of mummy and daddy are nice and rich or you can get a loan to pay the few grand for tickets..... I however can't, so I'm starting small and working up, so to speak. I have climbed trees before but purely in a rec basis. With a good climber teaching. I will be mostly hedge cutting and removing to build up on, some people make good living from just doing the small stuff. I can plant hedges and erect fences, I can do landscaping, I can drive machines as I have cpcs and cscs. I have been doing groundie work and garden work for must be on 7 years now and I feel it's time to progress. I'm ready for more, no I'm hungry for more.
  8. With high tech pristine white trainers on.
  9. Depends on who the builders were. Building regs are clear on trees and foundations. Had to dig a foundation deeper by .6m before due to a sycamore being 3m away from an extension. I think oaks are the worst as you can only build 3m away from them and no closer.
  10. No I'm not climbing. Felling and cutting on the floor, might need to go up on small ladder to get a line on it just to make sure it goes where I want but not climbing. I'm ins, but it's grounds maintainance type thing, covers for certain height, and felling of a certain height. I wouldn't even think about climbing without Certs. It's not worth it. Want to do my climbing Certs at some point. But like I have been saying i want to start doing my own jobs. Small tree removal, hedge cutting, some grass cutting, maybe a bit of landscaping. Got start somewhere and I'm a bit happy to work rigging for now, and build up a small business until I get to a stage where I can cert up and do my own bigger jobs. I need to start working and saving every penny I can get to buy more gear and build up. I've never had much money in my life and I've worked damn hard for everything I do have. My first purchase is going to be a good trailer, then I need to build up on cutting gear and work gear. My budgets don't allow for much stihl stuff so a stihl hedge cutter is out of my range for now. As is new saws, and things like a big shinny van, so for now I'm borrow and beg whatever I can to get going. A few favours will be returned to me...
  11. Not sure about a scam. You have to pick it up! How about this one. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/stihl-ht-75-telescopic-pole-chainsaw-pruner/103149969
  12. By the looks of the chap in the pic I don't think he really cared about legal issues..... Suppose they have to find out who he was first....
  13. I strongly agree with this. You never know who is going to be around and you might get noticed.
  14. Impulse line. Blocked filter or channel in carb.
  15. More thoughtfull planting would put arborists out of a job.
  16. Wow I wouldn't want your fuel bill.
  17. Yeah that's what I keep thinking to myself. I think I need to do something for myself, getting older and working for same company is great, it's regular income, (sort of) but I need to make my own way and try and get a ball rolling.
  18. Wow. I would be surprised if it lasts a year. If its been well and truly butcherd it's going to turn into a mess. There is only one thing that can be done to it IMO. TIMBER.
  19. It's fine with the "boss", he is actually encouraging me. I'm self employed while working for him so it's ok from legal type things, he is away next week so I've got to find some work to keep money coming in. As I'm not climbing cert I can take on the jobs he would see as no point in doing as it wouldn't make any money from them. Plus he said he was too busy with grass cutting sites and other work he has got to warrant getting any more in. It's a small job and hopefully I can get a few more in, everyone has to start somewhere.
  20. If you don't like this gov, why are you still in this country??????!
  21. So after working ground for five years I've got my first private job on Monday, nothing major a poplar takedown, only 20ft so pole should get it all. Looking forward to it. Only problem I've had to sort out is I have no chipper so I'm borrowing a trailer from the boss and using his yard as tip sight. Got my tools, got a groundie to help out, but not actually climbing as I don't need to, the tree is perfectly placed to drop and cut. Couldn't ask for a better first job. I did quote two jobs but not heard from the other one, they wanted It done by the end of month, but I got the impression from talking on looking at it they didn't want to pay much, I gave what I think was a good price, but I'm not letting a no reply to quote to get to me as if they don't want to pay for me to do it then I will let someone else bust there gut. Anyway if I remember to take my camera I will get some pics, but don't count on it as I will be thinking of everything else I need to take.
  22. I have no idea were Royston is? If its too far from me I can't help. Would love to help out, and think its amazing how many are offering to help with it, even offering a mog and chipper with climbers for it aswell.
