Wow. Went down there this morning and had a spinning head from all the info that was rapid fired into my brain. Still trying to sort it now. Going back Tuesday with the paperwork and getting my bleeper. I'm on a six month probation period to acclimatise myself with it all and see how I do with the shouts, and to look at the attendance I can do. Said I don't think I could do 100% what with tree work and all I wouldn't be able to just leave a job. They said that was fine and where happy that I could at least be honest with it. Looked around the boat, bit like a tardis they are. Wouldn't have thought so much could be fitted in one. And I nearly wet myself when I saw the engines. Two mtu 1000hp twin supercharged v10s. My god. So Tuesday I'm officially starting my time. After six months (possibly less depending on my attendance) I will be off to Poole to do the training for boat crew. They said with my knowledge on the mechanics I could be working closely with the mechanics. Got to say I'm looking forward to it all. Not looking forward the he training in Poole as the last test is jumping into the water and swimming to the raft and having to stay in there for an hour under storm conditions before being lifted out. Bit worried about that bit so will have to find a happy place. Good bunch of blokes aswell.
  3. Same problem all the time. Try pulling the carb away slightly and using a pair of long nose pliers to get down the side. Hold the throttle arm on the carb open with a screwdriver and gently twist the rod as you push the carb back in. It really tricky but that's how I do it.
  4. Pretty damn far. Pilots do not like landing heli if the trees are anywhere near the pad. One site tenerd for a while ago had one and no bushes, trees or obstacles within 100 yards radious of the pad. This is not due to the rotor blades but more the downdraft from the landing heli. It's a safety thing as far as flying objects hitting anyone near or getting blown up into the air and sucked into the jet engine. Size of the heli doesn't matter.
  5. If you don't want it I will.......
  6. How about a few donations to the site???
  7. Yeah think I would have an emergency runway in my pants after that. I only found out a short while ago that the wires will charge three times once they are down. So still live for a short time after breaking.
  8. The part of this that is sticking with me is the illegal part. Drugs are illegal no matter what class they are. There fore drugs at work are illegal. End of. Police now take the same view as drink driving with driving while under the influence of drugs. Operating machinery also comes under this. Chainsaws are machinery. Chippers are machinery. Reaction times are greatly reduced by anything that effects a state of mind. I wouldn't want to be using a chipper alongside someone who is on drugs, do you think they would react in time to shut it down if I started to get dragged into it??? I don't. I've known a few people that would gladly steal to get another fix. Been with people who have stolen to make money for another fix in my youth and its safe to say I didn't hang around them for long. This is my view and from my own experiences with drugs, I'm not saying everyone is like that. If people work hard and spend there hard earned money on drugs fine. But I would refuse to work with anyone I suspected to be on drugs.

Cheers gardenkit. Im looking forward to it greatly. Im a bit anxious about working as when I'm doing tree work my car stays at the yard and we go in works van. Might have to look into using my car more if we are working away from the town. Anyway I want to do it and I'm looking forward to the challenge.
  10. Is a 35m rope going to be enough of is longer needed?
  11. Look like you need a poll on bumbler stickers and what they should say. Looks like we've made some work for you Steve. I keep seeing a red hilux with a huge winch on the front but can't remember the name.
  12. Just call up the airline ans ask. It might need boxing p but so long as it goes in the hold rather than carry on I don't think there is much of an issue.
  13. I've been told I'm not allowed to loose my temper anymore....... Plus I'm with skyhuck on this one. If you know it's faulty gear don't use it. Although I have been reading that some gear is not there own but the companies.
  14. I'm hoping to make it now as a big job just came up. It's a maybe if we get the job done or it might be a Saturday working for me But if I'm going I'm going past ashford on the way. Could jump in with me if you like. It should take me about two hours from me to get there.
  15. That will teach you not to buy stihl.

Well it started when I used to own my own boat and go fishing in the channel. Used to come in and moor up right behind the RNLI offshore. Used to sit there and stare at it for ages. And my thought was always. I want on that. So I've now got a chance of doing it. I know it's not going to be easy, I've got to spend time as onshore crew but I actually want this. So I'm prepared to do some dogs body work before hand. Plus the RNLI do some excellent service and are worth more than they get.
  18. Done that very same thing on my first ever climb. Got up ten feet and relised I couldn't reach. After a few minutes kicking about and pondering using my knife on my nice new rope I figured it out and got down.
  19. Well that's no good. Some dozy plonker has smudged out the start dates and all the info. You don't know when to do the job now
  20. That's cool. Pm some details when you have them please.

With being self employed and time not being an issue I'm going down my local station on Sunday morning to volunteer. Set up the interview today. Start of shore crew then progress onto the boat. Looking really forward to it. Just thought I might share incase there is anyone else out there that is any part of the RNLI?
  22. Would it be possible for me to join in on this one. I havnt got climbing Certs but I've been rec climbing for a while now and would like to see a few different techniques people use?
