  1. The problem isn't fuel spilling out, it's air getting into the tank fast enough so the fuel flows through the carb. With no breather in the cap the fuel isn't flowing into the carb quick enough, meaning the strimmer dies on lack of fuel until enough gets in.
  2. I must be the lucky one then. Only got two tractors in. Three mowers. But then one mower is due for the skip. It's a sovereign mower with Briggs and Stratton engine. The pull cord had broken, and on these things the assembly is pop riveted onto the engine. So managed to sort that, but the engine was solid. OPC cable was working but the throttle and drive cables had given out. So took the head off and the rockers had broken, bolts had snapped off. So checked the oil and no oil in it. So with this the owner has decided that the repair will not be worth it and it's cheaper to go buy a new mower. So that one will either be going on the scrap saws for a good cause, with the deck and handles only. Or just going straight in the skip.
  3. They come in threes. Got a morning in the workshop before docs today. 3 pole pruner saws. Stihl, two four mix and one two stroke. The two stroke wasn't driving the chain, after looking to make sure the clutch was working and the chain end was working, took the engine off. The centre shaft was disappearing into the outer shaft. So after some work with needle nose pliers managed to get the centre shaft on the engine side out. There is a small outer shaft at this end that is about a foot and a half long. It stops the centre shaft from dropping down with a small clip, the groove on the shaft had worn out allowing the clip to move up the shaft. So a new groove cut into it and a thicker clip used. Now is perfect again. Not what I would call a professional fix as the centre shaft does need replacing. But it will last out, done one a few years ago and it's still going. But will order a centre shaft for it. Next up was chain running on. I put a new clutch on this one a few weeks ago. The engine idle was a little bit fast, this was set when it got sent out last time and the owner swears blind he didn't touch it.......... So to save face it was tuned again and sent away. Had problems with this guy before when a saw came back out of tune after I had fitted new piston and seals to it. And the last one was brought in just as I was locking up. The on off switch had broken, so new one on order tomoz. Owner is picking up the husky tonight from my home, so gave that a run just to make sure, and had to play with the heated handles one last time.....
  4. +1, If trying to sell new saws is more important than fixing old ones then I'm staying as I am and not going to even think about selling new stuff. I have seen how stihl work and put pressure on dealers to sell sell sell. It can ruin a small business in months. I did look into it a short while ago. But I'm staying as I am. He will soon lose business as word of mouth is more important than any form of advertising.
  5. Not sure the owner of the husky will go for that. But I'd do have a 351 that I'm thinking of shifting for a stihl.
  6. I've got a couple of appointments. One is with a dietician, one with my doctor, then a specialist. Then it will be decided what treatment they want to start. Not much info from the letter, only appointment dates, but now I know it can be sorted. Seeing the first doctor Thursday. I have looked on the cancer research website for the first time, and it lists all the treatments, chemo, radio, surgery. Also didn't know how rare stomach cancer is, especially in my age group. So I guess it's time to let my family know what's going on. It's going to be a killer for my mum, she has miloma, my auntie has 18 months left as her lung cancer op failed. Just really piles it on, and I was thinking this year had to be better than last year. Sat down with the other earlier and we read the letter together. So had my moment with her. Now I'm just staring into space a bit. So thought I would come on here and harass spud about husky saws.
  7. Adenocarcinoma A letter I came home to with results in it.....
  8. Sorry to hear that. This year really seems to just pile on the bad news. Hope they can get it sorted ASAP. Thoughts are with you.
  9. the second one is different to the first. the first one has. only one turning roller, the top part is an anvil, and as its run on a small petrol engine it is belt driven to allow for jam to let the belt slip rather than stall out the engine. the second runs on a pto system so if a jam happens (and not likely due to the power of the tractor) it slips on the pto gearbox not the gears on the logger. got to say they both look somewhat easy to fabricate up. a good lathe and some decent metals. would also need housed bearings. and a milling machine to make the holes in the 3/4 inch plates. i would also imagine the blades are hardened and tempered. this owuld also need a furnace or gas tortch.
  10. got to say you are sort of right. it is a cracking little saw, plenty of grunt, and the heated handles did feel nice. cutting full bar lenth without a problem. but yes one design fault would be the boot connection to the cylinder. but i would still pick up a stihl without question im affraid.
  11. husky fixed. nice and simple, bearing seal was hanging off. replaced and used some bearing fit. now runs like a dream. oh and i like the heated handles aswell. but did feel a bit warm after a while so had to turn it off.
  12. Split it down. Only way it gets clean. Remove the high low screws aswell. Keep the diaphrams away from the cleaner.
  13. Steel tube. Thick enough to cover yourself. Big flat plate, 1/2 or 3/4 inch plate. Some solid rod to put through the tube. A damn good welder. They are simple to make with the right metals. But as it's been said puwer and the like will have you over a barrel if it all went wrong and someone got hurt.
  14. I have a lock up out the back room for any saws that I collect on the way home. As if I need to collect them I just do it at the end of the day and instead of running back to workshop I put them locked away at home. Had a look at the husky today. Carb is good, comp is pulling 160, so vac and pressure test tomoz, don't like the carb boot on these, bit of a loose way to have them IMO. Jubilee clip is much better. It's just not firing up, if I put fuel down the carb it will fire but not run. Meter arm is all good. And pipes are all good.

Get the app on the phone or the iPad. You can do it all on that. But it takes a few seconds to appear on the telly. I really love it. Everyone should have one.

  19. Yep that would be the time to stop, go home and enjoy the afternoon. Just try not to have nightmares tonight...... Do you find that the undersealed on the deck holds well. I've always found paint better and left to dry properly. Always worry that the undersealed will work off leaving black streaks down lawns.
  20. Indian. Much more choice and a hell of a lot better IMO.
  21. And there I was expecting to look in on here and see spud with his boxing gloves on. Experience and a knowledge to be able to just work these things out goes a very long way, and being able to listen to people who have been there and done it.
  22. I forgot to ask in my email about hotels and B and B prices and stuff. Might treat the missis to a lunch buffet and a night out, just not going to tell her about the factory tour bit in between.......
  23. Really??? There should only be 6 on a 220, two rows of three at 180 degrees on the flywheel.
  24. :banghead::bash: Yes clean the bar, yes clean up the chain, yes check the chain runs in the bar grooves properly. Yes also check the drive sprocket is all good. Chances are the bar has been pinched and is pinching the chain, also check the nose sprocket is rotating freely. If you have any major doubts get someone to check it over. A chain will throw sparks but they we only noticeable at night.
