In January I replaced an oil pump on a three month old saw that had been run using old engine oil- all the particles suspended in the old engine oil seized the pump solid. Customer tried to play innocent to try to get it under warranty, but when I produced a sample of what we removed from the chain oil reservoir in a glass jar in front of him, he quickly coughed up the £80 he owed me.

If a product fails within a "reasonable period of time" which-excluding certain items, such as perishable goods- is deemed to be 28 days then a comsumer is entitled to a full refund if they so wish (a lot of manufacturers either don't understand this, or try to turn a blind eye to it)- however should a consumer accept a repair or replacement then the option at a later date of a refund is forefeitted. Safety recalls and re-working re calls are exempted.

Mind you don't get tugged with those illegal number plates on your truck. Pre 72/73 vehicles only allowed to carry black/silver plates.

I agree. For those that missed it I'm sure you can all work out the scenario without the necessity to see it as this type of "reporting" has been done to death over many many years, it's predictable and the same old story. Next week it will be gas fitters, then plumbers, then double glazing, then car salesman yada yada yada. Absolutely no excuse nowadays for the public not to be aware of what they are getting themselves into IMO and more fool them if they do- hence these type of "traders" will continue.

Aside from that we are saying that if someone bought a house with a 150 year old beech in the garden and started taking chunks out of it or felled it completely and it was not TPO or in a conservation area, then there is very little anyone can do? I would have thought even if your garden was situated in a conservation area, then unless the tree has a TPO on it it doesn't make any difference conservation area or otherwise. Trees in a public area in a conservation area with or without a TPO I would have though is a different matter. I should imagine most of your busybody parisoners are moaning about someone cutting a tree with no TPO on it in their private garden/land. In which case tell them to sling their hook and find something else to moan about.

..not if it's a private user in their private grounds it isn't. Only in a commercial environment the HSE and DTI guidelines do not recommend the use of etc. Personally I use my Efco 132s top-handle for small diameter logs on my sawhorse for my wood burner simply because it is very light and manageable. I'm certainly not breaking any laws in doing so. However i do know how to sharpen a chainsaw chain if that has any bearing on it. LOL.

Petrol: Regulations made under the Petroleum (Consolidation) Act 1928 control the quantities of petrol permitted to be kept in containers for private use. This limit also applies to carriage. A maximum of two metal containers each up to 10 litres capacity, plus a maximum of two suitable and appropriately-marked plastic containers each up to five litres capacity, can be kept in a motor vehicle. It's a bit of a grey area with the wording, as you are using the fuel for a commercial application you are still classified as a private user of fuel rather than a commercial user for fuel for storage reasons- such as a transport company or other such high volume user that would sore fuel on their premises in large containers.

Errr I have. These moderations/deletions being discussed between andy collins and myself were not about anything I may have said or done. As you will read earlier on, i was wanting clarification. Anyway it's all done now.

The state wants to convert our piece of land into Woodland! ...seems reasonable- normally it's converting woodland to housing so not complaining there.

A few months ago a batty old woman came right into my showroom with a large shopping bag, plonked it down in front of our workshop reception and promptly took out an overfilled 5l plastic fuel can dripping fuel everywhere and dumped it on the counter- apparently she wanted us to check whether it had been mixed with two stroke as she had forgotten and was loathe to throw it away and start again. She couldn't quite understand why I rapidly removed it and threw it outside in a hurry and was a bit off with her.

Yup it's an aftermarket GOLF one. It's only a light under oiling and out of the two rings on the old piston one is unharmed and only the lower one is slightly compressed due to the light smearing. If i don't get the Dremel out with the grinder attachment to fettle the underside of the piston, I was thinking of cleaning up the old piston and re-fit using the two new aftermarket rings that came with the GOLF piston kit. The barrel is fine- gently removed the light ridging with a bit of oil and emery cloth. It's not a customers' job, but one I was going to keep for me to play around with, but I may sell it on the bay once repaired as a few bills new paying.
