Now you say it Andrew I do recall it was a 357 ! You gadda make allowances for an old git ! ?
  9. Hi and welcome . Its a bit like channel surfing on Sky ! Just one point you say 18" to 20" bar . You need 50cc to 60cc for that size of bar ( Take the bar length and X by 3 to give engine size . ) E.G. 18" x3 = 54cc . Also don't rule out Dolmar or Echo . Just to make it more complex ! I am a Husqvarna man myself but any of the 4 top makes woulds be good . I would get the best pro saw you can afford and run it on Aspen or similar alkylate fuel , especially if it has infrequent use .

Mmm dunno about that . Would have to measure the pitch of the pot mounting holes ( not sure if it used the old cank cases and the bigger saw might be a different stroke ) ADW might know for sure . @adw

That is the piston dia ( 41.79 or something like that ) for the smaller 45cc engine and 44,3 is the piston dia for the 50cc one .

I was gonna say about that but thought it might get messy . Also there was the one with , I think orange clips , orange side cover but with an auto de comp and being 50cc . I had one . Took the pipe off , crimped the connector and fitted a blue, no it was grey decomp .

No Decomp and no primer plus Orange side cover wopuld indicate 45cc.
  16. It starts out fine , but , after a certain amount of use the plastic rollers ware down with the file going across them . As the rollers become smaller in diameter it drops the file down by the same amount thus putting the file too low . The file should be 1/5th of its diameter above the top plate . When the rollers ware this is reduced putting too much hook on the cutter .

The only " woman " that I heard of with balls was Fatima Whitbread .
  18. Max revs should be between 13800 and 14200 . If you rev a saw with no bar and chain you can be privileged to see the clutch come off and shoot up the workshop at a rate of knots !
  19. I used them for a bit and went back to the Oregon flat plate type guide . The rollers ware out too fast and put the file to low .
  20. Spud did ...346XP 372XP 390XP . Petemate did my 560XP and the Walker saw shop my 395XP . Yes vast improvement . Picks up quicker drives harder , runs cooler ( helped by MM ) and just as , if not more reliable . EG my 346XP runs a 15" bar , full chiz chain driven by an 8 pin powermate rim .
  21. @spudulike Spud ported most of mine .
  22. Noticed a few dandelions already gone to seed .
  23. The clutch on a 346 is a LH thread . There are usually arrows cast on the clutch body indicating direction of " spin off " . You will need a soft copper drift and a mallet . Some like to put a string inside the plug hole as a piston stop . I find compression is enough . give it a sharp clout in the direction of the arrows and it will spin off . A puller wont do anything other than break something .
