3.
Hi Steve . How you dooin bud ? Hope the infection has gone mate . Wonder if you could have a look at thread entitled " Cheap idea for a log splitter " There is a chap called the " worker " who is op . I need your back up from an engineering point of view . He seems to think he could make/get made a helical con for a splitter for £10 ! I suggested that if he could count me in ! Any way take a look if you can ..........

4. Mild steel would be no good . Not enough carbon in it . You seriously think someone would screw cut a tapered buttress thread bore out the hole and finish it for £10 ?? Could you ?? you would be hard pushed to do it for £60 even if you had a cnc lathe .
5. The "lump of metal " as you rightly say IS machined on a lathe ! It has a , for want of a better word , a razor edged buttress thread on the taper and is made from high carbon steel and heat treated to make it tough rather than hard . Some have a screw in replaceable tip . If you can get some one to turn one up cheaper and heat treat it then you are on to a winner . See how much you can make on the first 50 off .....

10. You are positive and willing so I am sure you will make it eventually . Good luck with everything bud .
11. I godda thing called a duplex kidney . Basically one kidney has got a sports manifold on it and the other has the standard single tube to the bladder . On the one with two pipes the upper pipe can get an infection . When it does its like pissing rusty fish hooks and broken glass ......
12. Hi Dave . Don't think its a snob thing , just they got more of it that's all .
13. Think the main problem is not every one works week ends . I understand your dilemma . You don't want to quit your full time job till you got some thing more secure in the woods or arb. Tricky I know .

Tree ID?

Fox glove seems to be the favorite ! Paulownia tomentosa .......
15. Granted . The only effort required is to lift the ring up onto the table . Just slide ot to the cone and it does the rest . Pulls itself on and splits . Like cutting a cake !
16. Egg you wanna see it when its not tidey !
17. The shaft is a piece of 40.0mm dia mild steel . The cone can be had on ebay ( just type in log splitter on your search and refine it from there if you need ) Make sure you get one that has been heat treated , or a tough replaceable tip . The whole thing is driven by a duplex chain off the Honda 13 hp engine It really needs to be twice that power to get the torque to split the gnarly stuff but on big rounds of easy splitting stuff like syc it is way faster than my hydraulic one .
18. Here is mine . Never " snaged any clothing " ........
19. Helical cone splitters work well in my opinion weather tractor mounted (usual method ) or with its own engine ( as mine is ) as as a car mounted one ( sticler I think its called ) >
20. Yep . remember it . Getting tired on a baking hot day and catching the sides of the truck with the saw . orrible !

23. Hazzy we got barely enough to keep us two going at the mo !
24. Don't let it idle for a tank or two , worst thing you can do . Glazed rings . Work it as it is supposed to be worked from the off . Flat out .
