  1. My strop is getting a bit tired and I want to make up something a bit more tailored than my current lanyard set up.... This will involve some splicing! Anyone know where I can get a basic splicing kit like the Samson one in the uk? I haven't found anything at the usual places and amazon draws a blank.... Suggestions anyone?
  2. I should Chris. Seasoned firewood is a valuable commodity, why let people have it for a song when you slog your guts out to produce it? No one else selling high demand products does anyone any favours!
  3. I'd be inclined to take a longer term view of potential input costs perhaps, better to make more profit now at the expense of a few customers than making only a small profit now then losing hoards of customers when you have to increase your prices significantly.....?
  4. I won't sell a full tonne bag for less than £65, take it or leave it! I don't want to undercut anyone!
  5. Tonne bag seems cheap, I wouldn't want to fill one for that.....
  6. I did a lot of miles in a Renault kangoo many years ago, same thing as the berlingo, super little van, LOADS of room in the back, more economical than a connect (although not as nice looking or to drive) and very cheap to buy and run. Nice big sides for sign writing. Good choice....
  7. Perfect. I did a business start up course through business link when I set up years ago, a small van was exactly what they recommended, makes good financial sense. Looks professional without looking too flash. A very wise choice, I suspect you will build a nice stable little business!
  8. Now part of kverneland group I think, probably your best starting point, may have archives....? Apologies, since been sold on again.... http://www.fwi.co.uk/Articles/09/03/2008/109733/What-ever-happened-toKidd-Farm-Machinery.htm
  9. I have a shitephone 5 Can't recommend it at all. Camera rubbish iPod classic better for music Blackberry better for email iPad better for other 'stuff' Laptop for the rest. Blackberry bold would be my recommendation. Tough as old boots. In fact, ANYTHING other than an iPhone....
  10. I won sod all again [booooo] but being able to go home to my happy healthy children who don't need to depend on the Children's Trust [hurray!], well, that will do me just fine! A fine charity Steve, pleased to support it, and grateful to not have to use it. Nick Waring, send me your address so I can get your prize sent out....!
  11. Just Butler and Stevie Blair right.....?
  12. My favourite general work gloves are my petzl belay gloves, really comfy and holding up well, if a little pricey.. Have some of the very thin pfanner ones to try for climbing as an alternative to the grippy palmed work gloves which I find shed their grippiness in minutes..... First impressions good!
  13. Disco, inexpensive to buy and run, plentiful spare parts and support, versatile and capable vehicles. Like all vehicles, even Japanese ones, they need repairs occasionally and regular maintenance. Some are better than others so make sure you buy the right one..... All the info you need is out there..... I wouldn't have another Japanese 4x4 for all the tea in china..... 'Orrible contraptions....
  14. Class..... Working and middle very much wealth dependent and not tiers in the original British 'class system', they're a recent concept created to encourage social mobility, or in other words to incentivise working a bit harder, having a nicer standard of living and contributing a bit more tax. Traditional upper class is through birth right and was born out of the invading French ruling families, hence remaining British upper class families will have quite a lot of French sounding names in their family trees. Upper classes can breed down, lower can marry in and breed up, but stigma will always be attached, making their descendants not truly 'upper class'. Lower class has since been divided into middle, working and under, which essentially can be defined by how much tax you pay. Whichever class you're in you may or may not 'have class', a phrase rooted in the old notion of class, upper or lower. There are very few true upper class families left, most have been diluted and dissolved through marriage with upwardly mobile middle classes, many such relationships were formed at university as children of working families have found the means to attend university. So, in my view while the old upper and lower classes still exist in a small way they diminish everyday. For instance, even the royal family is diluting it's breeding, unavoidably, through marriage these days. The wealth based divvying up of the lower class is at best a 'helpful' label but not something to define oneself by. FWIW, I'm sure my ancestors would despair at me........ But whatever, I work hard......
  15. A prusik & thimble would be a nice addition then to get a bit more length out of it
  16. Friend of mine has a gkn od on a 2006 td5 90 from new. Used it to commute from Tenbury to North Curry. Still has it now, tours all over Europe, no problems, done huge mileage...
  17. I doubt it's going to be long enough to be useful as a second line, longest Marlow split tail is 5m I think? I have a 12m strop I use as a second line...
  18. All that said, full marks to your girlfriend! Bit of fiddling and that will make a nice set up. As Silky says though, I'd have that pinto out and use a micro pulley instead. I have Boa in a vt on my strops, it's nice cord.
  19. That's my thoughts too. My parents have a stove in the basement which ticks over through the winter. Even taking the first length of stove pipe to the flue outside and banging it on concrete won't get the hard baked creosote off. Sweeping is fine for soot but not much else I reckon. Our chimney is unlined and I run a brush up it once or twice a year. I only burn smokeless fuel on the Rayburn now, and we've been here 7 years now, touch wood, with no problems really. I like to give both the Rayburn and the wood burner a good blast at least every other day when running. The woodburner's only been lit twice though this winter!
  20. When I did my tickets, albeit a long time ago, I got them subsidised as part of an nvq, roughly 50% I'd guess from memory. It was very helpful! There's bound to still be funding out there somewhere to help with the cost of course, but I think it's better hidden than it was, and you'll probably need to be 'disadvantaged' in some way to access the best of it. Perhaps you'll have to move to Brixton?!
  21. Congratulations both, great news!
  22. Bloody hell, if only! Might be a problem round that side but up here I can't see it being a major issue!!!!!
  23. I started off on the hc with a length of Marlow boa 9mm cord tied off with fishermans, I now have a 75cm 8mm Yale beeline e2e and it's great cord, makes a real short vt.... Got it from jonesie....
  24. Not seen this thread before, and don't know this Ashman, but having read it through now, for one time only Tony I agree with you and think you we're completely right to be hacked off. To lend something out and to not hear from it again isn't on. If I was you Tony I'd stick an SAE in the post to the address you sent the book to. If you don't get it back that way then find someone local to pop round and knock the door. I don't mind calling for it if it's near where I live Tony.....
  25. Great news Andy. Back in the saddle full time in the new year then? You want to be here Stephen..!! The Farm Toys Forum - Worldwide Discussion Community for Farm Models I got some Haix Trekker Pro boots, Big Hands and some Fat Face stuff amongst other bits and bobs
