  1. I have ipad mini 3G. It's ok, does a lot, I use it all day but it hasn't saved me anything, just means I spend more time staring at a screen. Also have iPhone 5. Rubbish. My favourite is my laptop, 17" vaio. Does everything, properly and well. And because I have to get it out and set it up I only use it when I need it. Get a small cheap laptop / net book, much better solution.....
  2. I asked the same question a couple of pages into the rw thread. Essentially a normal friction hitch from ddrt running in a single line is subject to twice the friction which could burn it out. Rw splits the friction between itself and the hitch. Kev calls it the limb which goes with you, it's 1:1 climbing with the friction of 2:1. Genius!_
  3. Doh! Did he say static? I thought we were talking about dynamic! I can be a proper space cadet sometimes..... In that case I have no idea....! Too much heat in the event of a fall I imagine....?
  4. Presumably because as it stretches the diameter reduces which could cause the grab function to fail....?
  5. Not into holidays really, going to try to get away for a week snowboarding if i can this spring and we're supposed to be going to Australia for a month over next Christmas. Watch neither of those things materialise though.....!
  6. There a few of my funny little drawings dotted around the site....
  7. Seen his girlfriend?! Worm him out, poor lad.....
  8. Great post! Look forward to hearing about your experiences!
  9. Sorry Kev, I meant as in to convert my existing ddrt hitch climber system to a rope wrench system. All I need is an rw and a pantin really, but that's getting on for 150 quid including the vat. I've already got a croll so add in a nice footpro and a bit of bungee cord from somewhere and it's going to be the wrong side of £150 for what I need to get the rope walker set up I fancy. Soon though!
  10. Thanks Paul! I've started using 'Paper' on ipad.... Saves me scanning in hand drawings, i think it has good potential, need a bit of practice though..... Just upgraded to the full package and ordered a pogo connect stylus to go with it, the griffin one I have is a bit indiscriminate...!
  11. Don't worry, not with us, we're not so big that we rely on someone else to assess the ability of our guys to do a job properly.... We like to keep an eye in things ourself!
  12. Very true Mog, I like to keep the rope in the bag and the line running behind the tree out the way. As you say though, always a risk.
  13. Exactly right. Preoccupation buggers concentration right up and becomes a self fulfilling prophesy.... (Especially when you're terrified of heights anyway! )
  14. No problem Rik. I like working this system, makes me feel quite comfortable knowing that if I do hit something major with my saw I can concentrate on stopping the bleeding while my groundy lowers me straight down, no waiting for rescue or getting gear set up, just pull the stopper knot and let the prusik & 8 run..... Because I'm self taught and not doing it full time with an experienced team I like to make sure I reduce as many risks as possible!
  15. Make sure your CIS and utr are in order and send me your mobile number & email and I'll give your details to our site managers...
  16. Little sketch of the lowerable anchor. Basically an SRT base anchored line with floating pulley, rope length needed for anchor twice anchor height....
  17. Dewalt have a lot to answer for!
  18. Dirty old man....
  19. Not a bad idea Neil...... No reason necessarily why you need to do the hard work.... Just drop the subbing. Use a climber for any jobs you do get and you do the ground work. Can't be any harder on your back than stooping to lay bricks (or, heaven forbid, 6" solids!) all day....?
  20. We've got a lot of brick and block work coming up but it's all working away, may or may not suit you.... I'll have a look at what, where and when and let you know. Definitely interested in your srt kit. Shall we meet up? Not fishing at Wes's anytime soon are you?
  21. That was brilliant! Russian drivers getting hold of video cameras has been an even better development for the internet than 'college girls' discovering webcams....!
  22. Sorry to hear that Neil. You big girl! Did you ever pick up SRT? If you have any SRT gear I'd consider taking it off you. Have you got some work lined up?
  23. Ah, got you! Will have a look see.....
  24. It's another couple of hundred quid to invest in kit.... No other reason. On the cards though.....
  25. An advantage of the lowerable anchor is that you can make sure this doesn't happen.....base anchor, figure 8 backed up with a dead man handle prusik, long line to a high natural crotch with a pulley on the end instead of an srt line..... Climbing line doubled through the pulley.... In an emergency lower the lot.... Just make sure there's enough spare rope in the bag to get the false anchor to the ground.....!
