  1. I'd agree, you can make your own growth points on Willows by wedging a live twig under the bark! Ruddy mental things...... I'm psyching myself up for a big pollarding session!
  2. Tell 'em to stick it Jon! Warm is cool! :thumbup1:
  3. I have a something like that Jon, think it's a Dents one, only really suitable for the coldest days..... I usually wear a woolly hat with ear flaps and dangly things. Everyone takes the piss but I like it!
  4. He's already got all the gear, he must have a pantin in there somewhere!!!
  5. Could be a footballer......?
  6. We use Distos, as Dean says, laser dot on 'normal' ones is near impossible to see outside. Accuracy very good though.... We're due a new one and having watched the video on the Leica site I'm tempted to push for a D5.....
  7. Thanks Steve & Barrie.... metering arm might be worth re-visiting.... I didn't take the needle out the first time I looked into the carb, but when I stripped it down fully this time the needle had been put in upside down by a previous keeper..... Wouldn't have thought this would bend the metering arm but I'll have a look. No impulse line, takes it straight through the carb mounting plate. Will double check the tank breather, may be that it's not seated properly preventing it from venting sufficiently.... Thanks chaps!
  8. Some people are just daft...?
  9. Do away with the sling and get a pantin.....
  10. Could it be that Mr 'More Money than Sense' thought he'd like to do some gardening, then realised it was hard work and paid someone else to do it....?
  11. Get in.... The soundtrack of my French trip... Great vid Rich, in every way :thumbup1:
  12. I treated myself to a Sawpod, and the company has treated me to an iPhone 5 and a new iPad, which should be here this week.... I've asked Santa for LOADS of stuff.... not sure how much of it will materialise though..... not looking good....!
  13. Thinking out loud here a bit...... If I'm short of torque at the top end, what's the cause, or fix..? It's had new crank seals, piston ring, carb diaphragms & gaskets, new carb mounting gaskets, tank breather, plug & air filter. Things not replaced: Fuel line & fuel pick up. Starts perfectly. Idles well. Accelerates nicely. Dies off after a couple of seconds at WOT, so fuel starvation. I haven't had a chance in daylight to have a good go at tuning it, it's more or less on stock settings. I'll replace the fuel hose on the off chance that it's collapsing, and the pick up on the off chance that it's restricted. Any other thoughts....?
  14. Are you that ashamed of it Rich... I have a VERY NEARLY finished 019T at the front of my bench, I'm hoping to fire it up tonight when the wife returns home with my car with all my keys in it.... It won't win any beauty contests but mechanically it will be spot on... I was going to keep it but I think I'm going to have to sell it to fund a couple of other projects...
  15. I'll stick with tree rat.... We have bird feeders outside our office.... there's a 'posse' of hard as nails squirrels who just decimate the food left out for the birds....Just a pest I reckon. I'd rather just know that wildlife is there, I don't feel the need to see it, as lovely as it is when you do... Invisible reds over cheeky greys for me any day...
  16. I'm surprised at your choice of hardware.... seems to have more of a 'lovechild of irata & SRT' flavour about it....? I can't help feeling you've created something overly complex and quite expensive for what it can achieve.... If you are climbing DdRT, did you consider a good old fashioned [!] vt & hitchclimber pulley set up....? If you're climbing DRT for access to work zones - other than by old fashioned footlocking - .... why? Not judging, just curious....
  17. I've dismantled ash trees which have been cracking under me as I've climbed them, and when we cut them up on the floor found that the only thing holding the compost which used to be the stem together was the ivy wrapped round it.... Was stupid and dangerous and if I'd thought it through better I wouldn't have done it [but I was working at home so keeeping the cost down.... ]
  18. I'm quite surprised at that, I would have thought that everyone in the institution would base all decisions on their 'duty of care' .... Thinking aloud, if my son was [old enough and] at your college and fell out of this tree, for whatever reason, given what you now know, I wouldn't be too happy with you or the college.... I think you've definitely taken the correct stance given your position David, it would be foolhardy to do anything else Simon Sorry, TIP, tie in point....
  19. I lost some Laurel hedging at home in a similar way but it was very localised, there were only a couple of plants affected. One of them is growing back now as well, I chopped it just above the floor.... Not the foggiest what caused it....
  20. If it's been theoretically condemned by a TO and I was in your position as a responsible person I wouldn't chance it for a second! The problem being that you are now aware that the tree has structural weakness and anything other than prohibiting work or climbing on it is wilful disregard for the safety of those in your charge.... I suspect that is how the courts would see it should a TIP failure lead to a fall anyway....
  21. You must be the one Andy.... There's a photo of you on the wall at Swindon.....
  22. Foreman 400ES [TRX400FE] is a great bike. Electrics are negligible, ES shift is a brilliant simple system. I'd have no concerns over buying one....
  23. :thumbup1: Can we get these in the UK yet...? I haven't managed to find one anywhere, although I thought they were supposed to be arriving last year...?
  24. Something doesn't stack up here.... 2003 Fourtrax 400 was a racing quad..... Is it a Foreman 400 or 450 with the electric shift...? The auto was a 500 IIRC... [i used to work for a main dealer and still dabble] Anywho.... 400..... The first Foreman, great bike, my old man still has one. Can't fault it. [Although his is in bits at the moment as he's stripped the front diff]. 450. Came out in 2003 I think. We LPG converted a few, mechanically they were very similar to the 400 and just as strong. ES box is surprisingly simple and very reliable. 500 auto. Possibly the only 'pup' Honda ever made. Still a great bike but the legendary Honda reliability was dented by the hydrostatic auto box which had some occasional reliability issues, made worse by the hideous cost of repairs. Strong as an ox though when working and bags of fun to ride. Can't say anything else other than, it's a Honda, so no matter what variant you buy it will still be better than any other brand you could have bought instead.....
  25. Our local tyre fitter who comes out has Kuhmo KL71's [Road Venture MT] on the dual rears of a LWB tranny dropside. The size you quote is going to stick less than another inch inbetween your existing rims.... Take the spare off and stand it up against a front wheel and you'll be able to get a better idea of how much space you'll have without having to crawl around under the back..... I wouldn't worry about it, stick 'em on.....
