  1. But fmoc funding is only available if you have your own machine. And is only 2 days training and no assessment. There are no forestry based chainsaw courses but you can do (at walford college at least) cs38/39/40/41 And there are loads of home made non professional certificate of attendance courses! Jobs for the boys but no real forestry training. Oh, and it can't be used for fisa Updates!
  2. Get in touch with your local woodland officer at the Fc. They'll have advice on the grants available including for creating a management plan. It might not be a lot as its a small coup but every little helps. They can't recommend contractors but can help with possible options for management objectives. They will also be the person dealing with your felling licence. Best of luck.
  3. Great. Looking for £40-45t roadside. Depending on average td of lengths.
  4. At roadside will be approx 120t/160m3 of predominately ash with a mix of oak, s chestnut and birch varying sizes but a min of 7cm td. Could arrange haulage if required. I've not taken the job yet, just wanting to gauge interests as its a small coupe. Pm if interested. A
  5. Can you bump it upto 50t? Unless there's a smaller outfit or a 6 wheeler for a 16t load (I suspect there will be) though haulage might be a wee bit dearer. Minimum of £40t at roadside. I'd be aiming for more though. A
  6. Possibly. But either a) it's a sensible person who doesn't expect a complicated break down of how I/we price our works and can come to a reasonable approximation of the day rate their region can handle. B) this person is daft and will ask for £1000+ C) it's your competitor..........
  7. It varies quite a bit. I've got sites which can vary 100% in price per hectare. Per day just work out how much you want to make then add on fuel (about 5 litres a day per machine) lines/wear n tear insurance etc.
  8. I occasionally load a 3.6t 360 onto a mpg using ramps. It's easier with tracks than wheels!
  9. 118t approx. 2-3 days work pm me rates inc haulage. Site visits also possible.
  10. Drop me a pm with rates (inc haulage) can send pics, meet on site. Approx 120tonne hardwood, spec is 3m ground is good. Will be clear fell with odd standard. extraction is approx 300min to 600max meters site is near Ollerton.
  11. Ranskill hire. Can deliver if required. Google will find you them. £115 plus vat Road tow or tracked. Between Retford and the A1.
  12. Oakworth, near Keighley was the station used in the railway children. You can have a ride on a steam train.... You're not a million miles from Beamish. Just don't go into Bradford! Trip to Wensleydale, blacksheep brewery tour, lots of cheese. Aysgarth falls are nice to look at too. More fun in high water with a kayak though!
  13. I'd also be interested in prices, also for the additional equipment.
  14. DBH= diameter at breast height. TD = top diameter either of the product or the tree. You'll get an idea for a roadside price from the FC's standing sales archive. You really need to see the site. 200 trees is nothing really. The most profitable option with a quick think would be to sell standing and ask a standing price of about 10-20% of the roadside price of each product. Andrew Lesley (if my guess is correct) will have given you the info to work out an estimate of what percentage of each product you'll get out of the stand. Good luck!
  15. If they're still making them I use alpkit genius jeans. Waterproof until you wash them but mighty comply and loads of room for climbing as they have a diamond crotch but no stretch.
  16. If its copper try n splice it yourself, you never know....
  17. If its a phone line it's not too bad, if it's a fibre optic. I hope your insurance is upto date...... Best of luck!
  18. http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/wildlife/130079.aspx It's a sod, plus you need a licence.
  19. From a kayaking back ground, if it's on your land it's yours "riparian rights" similar to the fish in that section of river will be yours to catch. The copper just doesn't have a full understanding of the law. A common problem and a fear of a harassment claim from the "nomads" aka thieving ***** scumbags!
  20. Also it's not the number of trees more the weight. Also if they're spread out all over the place (along tracks etc) then hand cutting isn't really viable on a tonnage basis. Especially if you need to clear brash up. Why are you so keen to remove them? What hectareage are you managing? You could get the whole wood thinned with a small cf under a wood fuel wig. (funded harvesting) with an offset for funds raised from the timber against the wig. You can also get grants for timber surveys. Obviously the greater the area the better the funding.
