    what 4x4

You really will struggle at £2k. I've been thinking along the same lines, the only conclusion I keep coming to as the best all round versatile set up is a discovery and a big tipper trailer. Full 3.5t towing, lots of seats and secure storage. Nice to drive and easy on the backside. Though I fancy a series 3.
  2. Yup, the beloved trust have been a bit of a pita for me. Even told me outright I was lying about the quote they had given me for my vehicle (they said the price I was paying for was third party, though it was neither what I'd asked for or been quoted for). That they would never quote so little for my vehicle until I sent back the email with the quote. I'd probably still use them if the next quote was the best...
  3. Combo of two things, you need a 2nd pair. If the weather is really bad you can change through the day. And as said, a quick wash and spin before drying. Over the back of a chair in front of fire or over rad. Turn them every hour or so.
  4. What do they want you to do with the brash if you're returning un managed coppice to a rotation? The margins are narrower than a gnats crack. They have to expect residues on the ground! If you fancied traveling I could possibly put you onto some un managed chestnut. Good access, no brash worries. It's in the east midlands south of Worksop. Pm if it's of any use.... Couldn't help with prices on rents though!
  5. Not a million miles away and possibly because of the name but I loved climbing at cheese ring quarry.
  6. Not commonly known but Dan is the illegitimate love child of desperate Dan and Wyatt Earp. This is the story broke back mountain was based on!
  7. I've got two fs460s, use them all day long for clearing brambles, strimming, clearing birch/chestnut regen. Few issues, the bolts holding the start cord housing come loose and fall out (now locktite in) the clamp which holds the drive shaft to the engine cracked on one How ever, power/weight are good and I can use it all day doing pretty much anything. Though the husky harnesses are way better!!
  8. And a couple of eucalypts, just for diversification. For the native koala!
  9. What he said, and even with self employed folk you still need ELI.
  10. Get yourself into some fresh multiple blow Diff. You don't need to duck, if your thinking you can duck its too late. You'll be using the winch to hold the tension as you cut. Then slack the winch off afterwards. You'll then see how stems around 20" can spring just like a 1" whip. Though I agree, I've had a little tap from the thin stuff too. Always on the bloody nose!
  11. I can hire a 6" tracked chipper for £125 a day. £20 extra for a trailer or they can deliver/collect. So, take what you want from that. That's near Retford. East mids.
  12. Easy peasy! Snip n winch! I know course providers who'd pay you good money to do that for you!
  13. I love big wind blow problems, it's like an extreme jigsaw. Big broad leaf or big multiples. If there was enough I'd spend all my time just dismantling rows of windblown crop, snaps always a bit spicy too! Yes as agrimog said, pics would be much appreciated!
  14. Ppe, employers contributions, holiday. Makes for. £80-90 a day self employed but with no risk. Sounds a bit naive tbh! Though fellas, I can't remember who said it but age should never be a factor in deciding a wage. Only skill, work ethic and how well they fit within the existing team.
  15. That's lovely and flat Kav, I'm stuck on disc scarified rows otherwise I'd have run something the rows to get rid of the bulk. I wish it was tubed too! I've just picked up an extra 5ha of bramble clearance between Scott's pine.
  16. Can any one recommend a snow clearance/gritting contractor in the forest of dean area?
  17. They also supply all b&q and wilkinsons due to the main distribution centres being at Worksop. Though I've no idea where there logs come from. I have a bad feeling it's outside of the uk!
  18. Bury it in a very very deep hole, I think it's 5 or 7 meters below ground....
  19. I've used snow card and BMC for adventure sports. White water kayaking on multiday expeditions upto grade 5. Check them out. Do the RFU not recomend some one? I would have thought that any income insurance would cover or have the option to cover sporting activities. So, what about the likes of trust?
