  1. Put a few decent tops on the trailer so they hang on the floor and go for a drive. Though to be honest when felling you just don't walk backwards in your type a's and you'll be fine. Especially if it's a clear fell.
  2. A glass or 4 of Pinot noir. Maybe a sneaky g&t if I finish the bottle.
  3. What's your extraction method?? (for the timber?
  4. I agree with you. A 10 hour day on the saw and remaining productive and safe in big timber deserves the reward! Though perhaps £150. Gotta keep a wee bit for the house

If your driving it properly it's got to be a motor bike helmet. Ladies underwear might help stop the off road jiggling....

I know how to change this subject. Stihl are crap! Land rovers are crappy old rust buckets that get stuck more often than a British rail train on leaves. Unimogs are driven by blokes with tiny willies.......
  7. I had my eyes closed incase it was full of man merkin!
  8. Looking for suitably qualified and experienced staff for contracts in Dumfries and Galloway. Saw operators must have cs35 or equivalent. Preferably with chipper tickets. Pa1/6w operators. Nptc/lantra brush cutter/clearing saw operators. Must have forestry experience and all qualifications must be up to date or have attended a fisa update. As a minimum you must hold an emergency first aid qualification, first aid at work and advantage as well as an F endorsement. ATV qualification an advantage too. Also looking for suitably experienced planting labourers for restock work on ditch and dollop sites. Self employed, paid per tree. Please e mail a cv with covering letter along with scanned copies of relevant qualifications. Please note this is not full time work. all e mails to [email protected] Please use the title D&G forestry operators. I thank you in advance for taking the time to apply. Kind regards.
  9. Brilliant! What's holding the table together?
  10. Nothing but fields between here and Harworth pit tip/head stocks all visible from the A1.
  11. It'll be more like 6t per man per day for the first week at least if they're new to it. Make sure the stumps are nice and low so those pesky harvester drivers see how it's done when they come round!
  12. Varies a lot on tonnage. Ground conditions, timber size/type. For something to work off of the ewgs standard costs are £150 per day for a saw operator. Don't expect that unless you can cut like a god and at least 15t a day on say second thinnings. Or you're on big wind blow and good enough to cover the costs with output. If you're hand cutting and walking out with around a £100 a day before costs your doing well. Ask logrover!
  13. There's a lot of threads about availability/request for timber. Place your requests here. State your specification. Hard wood/soft wood/species Min/max diameter cm/inches Length State your quantity. Tonnes or cubic meters (preferbly tonnes fresh cut, cubes if seasoned) State your location. Post code (first half only) or nearest town/motorway junction. Access conditions. Artic, 6 wheeler, tractor & trailer or donkey. Example; Sought, 25t hard wood logs 12"< 18"> 3m long s81 good access for artic. You then wait for a pm from a supplier. Like wise if selling. State the product, Species, top diameter max and min, length. Standing/road side/delivered. State your location, For this region would be fine. South Cumbria, north Kent etc. Access conditions. Price per tonne/cube. Please try to refrain from conversations and use the pm system for communications. All the best!
  14. Easy tiger, without being as crude as I'd like to have been "alternative" was kinky. You know, spiky trees, wasps etc. my kind of joviality. The skidder/winch would be to sit on the edge and pull the trees down and out in one go without creating racks etc. I fully support some one having their own objectives for their one land. A man's home etc etc etc. if you've the time and no need to make money from the work and are doing for your leisure, great. I hope you enjoy it. I would if possible recommend having a robust loan working system if you're in the woods alone. Though pref a no2 with you. As for ropes, I think another poster hit the nail on the head. It's not a question you should need to ask...... Have you had any formal climbing/ saw from a rope training? This will give industry best practise. Then you can make up your mind for your self how you wish to proceed. Best of luck.
  15. The kerplunk line is a killer. If you don't want racks then it looks like you enjoy the "alternative" side of life. We've all taken a chunk off of the bottom I'm sure but I agree with you, it's pretty scary stuff some times. My only other suggestion would me make friends with someone who owns a skidder or a decent sized tractor with a winch and hoich em out that way. If its still got to be climbing then its sned up, logs down. You'll be pretty fit by the end of it!
  16. Ummm, I can't quite understand. If the trees are not going to land on a road surely preventing a hang up with a bit of directional winching will be quicker than climbing. Use racks for a first thin then self select using the racks as felling space. Herring none the trees to help with extraction and whenever possible use a felling bench. Unless you really want to climb, then sned as you go up and section the product off on the way down. Enjoy!
  17. Odd isn't it! You can get the online prices from folks who'll freight you a pallet of homefire 25 kg bags off of the web but for local coal merchants I've only ever found them by asking a neighbour or the book. Best of luck!
  18. Coal merchants are pretty old fashioned, try the yellow pages....
  19. Carrying way marker posts and digging holes. No running required. 2 maybe 3 days 8 hours a day. Can arrange transport from Retford/Worksop. Pm for more info. Thanks, Alex
  20. Ah ha, but that's not arb, it's forestry! That's why it's graft!
  21. That's a whole lotta Rosie eah Tommy?
