  1. no we are both professionals. only happens when milling up or spear cutting- so we are infact not professionals. but i do the same as him and i have had my saw for 6 moths and the chain has come off once to his 150+ times!! he bought a new needle bearing for it the other day and the chain was off within half an hour. i wont make excuses for it... just get a husky!! that solved that one
  2. lovin that might try that round my way.
  3. yeah i suppose the true stem of my rant is that i am miles a way from a decent opera. round me 90% of the woodland is owned by a handfull of land owners. all wealthy men who operate pheasant shoots. i am speculating that they get money from the commision to help them manage their woodlands.. god knows how they would manage with out the grant.
  4. running a bit rich me thinks...
  5. as long as you are not doing one of your 70% crown reductions!! i work all year round but will put a job of till winter, when the tree is dormant, if there is big limbs coming off
  6. frighting more like it. when you are packing some where between 88 and 100hp in an old tractor with half a turns worth of play in the steering and no brakes... wouldn't have it any other way thou, like to think i am living on the edge!!
  7. i was having a barny with a friend... he was adament that his fergy would pull better than my 6 cylinder nuffield!! nostalgic old fool!! i do like the old fergies thou
  8. i'm not entirely sure this is just down to the rich dodging taxes.. i know i would do the same if i had lots of money!! i have a problem with people on benefits!! take my step brother for example.. 19 he has two kids, his mrs says that he doesn't live there- in the council house. she was getting 2000 pounds a month before she had the second one so Imagen that it has gone up!!! he works cash in hand. i know his neibour has told the council twice about this but nothing has happened. he has in the past had some custi jobs that pay well.. he works for a couple of months then jacks it in saying the boss wasnt very nice. wheres the justice in that?? i work 7 days a week, my partner works 5 long days and we struggle on to pay for these parasites (i am not bitter) i rang HMRC to let them know that i was planning on doing self employed work at the weekends... "as i am employed 50 hours mon to fri will i have to pay more national insurance??". " well sir you will because you are not paying enough". "Not paying enough!!?? well thankyou very much for your help". i better stop this rant here.... remember.. not bitter
  9. my friend has one and it is a massive bag of poo!!! we both came from 260's but i went to the dark side and got a husky 550xp. the 261 chain flies off all the time its heavy feels flimsy. in short.. find a 260 or buy a 550xp! anyone that picks up my saw is impressed with it buy husqvarna now!!
  10. I use a mewp on a daily basis. We never have two people in the bucket. There is no need. You are not going to be cutting at the same time as cutting so I think it is a waste of a man! I don't think I have ever seen two people in a mewp, in tree work. But each to there own..
  11. Arb harness is deigned for work positioning, you shouldn't be shock loading it in you day to day climbing. Rock harness is designed to be shock loaded. Obviously the diffence is dynamic rope. I am sure it prob won't damage it but as has been mentioned, you can pick up a rock harness cheap enough.
  12. Hello, I have a job that I need help with 8/9th december. Bashing down bramble and scrub. Not huge amounts there but need to get it done. Looking for someone with a large brushcutter ( eg fs 400), there own insurance and a positve work ethic. The job is just outside of somerton. Although I am based near taunton. If this tickles your fancy then please pm Cheers mark
  13. i climbed in the harkie just yesterday, it was fairly comfortable my only gripes were that the leg loops did not go small enough, i am a regular medium sized guy, and the leg pads were practically chaffing me ringer!! i much prefer the petzle sequioa, tree motion, tree flex. but like everything it is different strokes for different blokes..
  14. looks awsome!! gona chop in me 550 for one!!
  15. knackard!?!!! How very dare you!!! Its just well run in... to the ground!
  16. has anyone owned or operated a nuffield 4/65 Before?? i have some questions. have driven a lot of older tractors but this one is a bit different. it has had an engine conversion from a 4 cylinder to A 6 cylinder. goes well when i was driving it home untill it overheated!!
  17. a recently acquired one. suspect head gasket. steering vague to say the least!! and a lack of brakes and needs a starter motor. but hey good tires on the back
  18. love it
  19. My dad lives in springfield, chelmsford and he breeds beagels. Ready to go end of jan. Nick (zero)781 (zero)344988
  20. Most definatly BT there!! You don't get the metal steps on power poles here!
  21. The wildlife trust my wife used to work for had a diesel polaris quad... It was a nightmare to start when warm. Try a polaris 550 sportsman. Now that is a weapon. Hydrastatic no gears. 0- 95 km in no time at all happy days. Prob not brill for skidding timber thou. I would get a tractor.
  22. The pole pictured is BT. Powerline poles do not have the metal triangle 'steps'. Powerline configurations vary between providers but round me lines orgainsed vertically on a wooden pole (similare to above)are low voltage, anythinh up to 1000v. Lines organised horizontally on wooden pole are HV 11kv or 33kv. But there are always odd set ups that arn't ther norm. With weston power you can ring up about stuff near the lines and they will send a contractor out free of charge, so worth ringing the provider
  23. yeah i got a 550 the best thing i would say is that it is very ergonomic when carrying. i have it in the right hand facing backwards.. built like an extension of ya hand!! very responsive and cuts like nothing else in its class. especially when compared to a stihl 261 and has the advantage of the chain staying on the bar!!
  24. We used to have a zetor like the one with the working headlights. Was a great tractor apart from... If you switched it off in gear it would then be stuck and require some taking apart to get going again..
  25. Hello, I have a job coming up and need to get timber from othery to elworthy (east side of exmoor). Thinking I may only get about 20 cubes but my estmation may be a bit out. Its about 30 miles. Anyone know of a haulier? Or a tractor and large timber trailer??
