    Pulled by vosa

I got pulled a few years back driving a M.O.D. White fleet minibus. I stopped at the edge of the VOSA checkpoint and asked if their hard standing was part of the public highway. They were not sure so I told them that I needed to see their certificate of liability insurance if they wanted me to proceed off the highway onto their land. I've never seen anyone turn that particular shade of purple before or since. I'm not sure that they needed liability insurance for the land but the thing is they didn't know either. Not sure I'd be so cocksure when driving my own wagon.

  4. Is there a prize for the closest guess? Running flat out I'd guess at 2 tonne per day assuming 4Kwh/Kg embedded energy in the wood and a boiler that runs at 50% efficiency.

  8. I've currently got a stove with a canopy but I think I may have missed a trick by not having a flat top stove. Does anyone use their flat top for cooking? I'm thinking of replacing my stove with a home made range, something similat to an Esse Ironheart stove.
  9. Check for corrosion between earth strap and chassis. It's well worth buzzing out the circuit with an ohm meter to locate the source of any excess resistance but remember to disconnect the battery first. Using a Multi meter on Your Boat - BoatSafe.com
  10. Can't go wrong with a F180.
  11. Sumps are a weak point on Hiluxs, mine rusted through after 7 years but they have been known to leak after just 3 years. I was quoted £454 + fitting + VAT! My Hilux is 2WD so quite an easy job to do but I wasn't going to spend £500 on a piece of pressed tin so I bought a £700 mig welder instead. Never had a LR sump fail, prolly cuz they have a built in oil wash feature.

  14. Every year I go backcountry skiing in Finland/Norway. I usually take a 21" Bahco bowsaw but I'd prefer to take something that is easier to transport. We will be cutting 3" - 6" branches (where legal to do so). What Silky saw would you recommend?
