  1. not quite sure a justy is up to the job:biggrin: not really sure on the mpg as my fuel gauge has never worked:laugh1: but i would hazard a guess at 25 ish!
  2. Hi all, i start a new job in october as an estate worker, as an employee. my mrs has already started hinting that i wont need my hilux any more:thumbdown: so to please her i am looking in to the possibility of another 4x4 that is more economical. i have no real experience outside hilux's so if any of you can open my eyes to other suitable vehicles i would appreciate it. doesnt need to be a pick up but needs to be reliable and be able to get in and out of muddy woods and have enough boot space for logs, deer etc secretly im hoping this vehicle doesnt exist as i dont want to part with my battered but much loved old truck.... thanks in advance:thumbup:
  3. all i can say on this matter is trying to see it from the other side. if i had a tree in my back garden that was huge, overshadowing, dropping leaves, blocking my view and sunshine i would want it removed. if it didnt have a tpo on it, i would expect a contractor to quote for its removal and do the job. if they decided they liked the tree and tipped off the council who then slapped a tpo on it i would be furious, to put it lightly. surely its my right as a home/land owner to have a tree removed on my property if i dont want it there!! its not up to contractors to decide if a trees should stay in someone elses land. just my view after a few pints.
  4. couldnt care less really, it just winds me up! also its ironic that the main themes of the opening ceromony are the things that the governments of this country dont care a toss about- village and country life and people. waste of time and money!
  5. i'll second that for chestnut. it will last alot longer than softwood, which i would never buy, as the fence will need replacing after about 3 years tops!
  6. i just bought some stuff on ebay, i contacted the seller as adam and got it posted to adam, not manuel. not saying this guys a con man, but £800 is a lot of money, so why not be cautious?
  7. In his email to you on the first page he has signed it 'joe' but on his address its manuel. That for me is enough to make me suspicious, but i always am about things like this. I would try to speak to him and the shipping agent, and make sure you are there when the its picked up. I think you are right to have doubts, £800 is alot of cash to be flippant about and be all trusty and pally with a guy you have never met living hundreds of miles away.
  8. This looks like squirrel to me, 8 foot a bit high aswell unless you got some big reds, which may have done a bit more damage!! seems wrong time of year for deer in velvet. im seeing quite a bit of squirrel damage in the woods at the moment. solution= squirrel bashing day(+dreys!)
  9. really top effort guys, what a great thing you have done.
  10. i would say trust your technique, i had a big poplar a few weeks back, over at about 40 degrees and i got "the fear" a bit. gave myself a talking too and went and did it. got to trust the right cut to do the job, stick a strap round it for a bit of confidence if you need it, stay on your toes and smash it down!
  11. reverse it and its a standard friday night
  12. the MOD must sell off all of their good goretex as the stuff we were issued was about as waterproof as toilet paper!
  13. always worth checking ebay regularly, i picked up my v reg hilux 118 on the clock for £2K!! couldnt believe my luck, no body else bid on it! local papers good aswell, sometimes people dont know what they are selling, good luck!
  14. is that view from tryfan? shooting, rock climbing, walking and keeping the local pub going!!
  15. i came across a big oak bough hanging from a phone line at the side of a lane, so pulled over and worked out i could get it down by pulling the end back underneath the line, the whole time cars were going by ignoring me and my warnings, it was a fair lump and would have flattened a car. i got it down safely in the end on my own and was on my way. on a slight derail but same general attitude of the public, i was coming out of a boot sale with my mrs and there was a huge que, turns out a campervan was stuck on the wet grass. me and the mrs got out and started pushing even with cars still trying to squeeze by, eventually a parking steward came and helped. even when we stopped the traffic to get it out no one else came to help, there must have been 100 people within 100 metres. not one bloke came over and offered to take over from my mrs. i was actually pretty shocked! whats happened to people?
  16. lol i heard he saw the platform at lympstone commando and didnt even bother getting off the train! going ok thanks jesse, lots of estate work at the moment, always tempted by maritime work still but can give the self the boot up the arse to do it! how bout you?
  17. i think the research will be interesting, but as others have said the decline in numbers of these species is probably mostly down to farming methods, pesticides, eradiction of hedgerows etc. Its not just the species mentioned in decline, songbirds and bees and buzzards dont eat these. buzzard populations are increasing surely this cant have such a dramatic effect on the numbers of these species. IMO they are just being made a scapegoat, i never buy into the view that they damage huge numbers of gamebirds as some gamekeepers claim. (Im not necessarely against a cull, i also shoot and help the gamekeeper out during the shooting season. just so you know where i stand )
  18. just cannot beat spinning off the rocks in pembrokeshire. been there many times around st davids, lovely coast, last time had a 5lb pollock on a little spinning rod, really knew about that! back to fresh water i would also go for floating baits, very exciting way of fishing, i get a bit restless sitting behind alarms. my fav thing to do is just have 1 rod and a pocketful of biscuits and wander around stalking. which ever way you go, fish biting or not, enjoy!

  22. nice one chaps. when you do the reversing, does it have to be done using your mirrors? im fairly good at reversing but have to look over my shoulder. when i try using my mirrors now it all goes wrong and my eyes start crossing!
