  1. I felled a walnut a couple of weeks ago and had to lower all the decent sized timber in as big a lengths possible so it could be sold and left a high stump so the root could be extracted, apparently the roots are used to make gun buts, and can fetch a high price the hard part is finding a buyer

Sounds to me like you you've just come up with a version of the CE lanyard [ame=http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=n-LSbQfNCNU]YouTube - CElanyard[/ame] Which, thinking about it, when in single leg mode or SRT there is no device in place like the RW to take friction out of the system. Food for thought maybe
  3. the judges at the 3atc comp often do workshops before and after the comp might be worth asking them to do some SRT stuff
  4. Evening all I want to start learning to splice and just wounded if any one had any advice on the best way to get started and the best way to go about it cheers
  5. just a silver birch that I thinned last week, with a funny sound track to go with it, enjoy
  6. cheak out the new sawpod tricks and tips videos on youtube [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VYqH_O8ekk&feature=g-all-c]Sawpod tricks and tips - YouTube[/ame] i used to use a nata noko, didn't find it hit my thigh though, when you install the scabbard you want the top strap to be about 1 inch below the top of the scabbard this helps to keep it in nice and tight and also is far enough away to avoid nicking it with the saw
  7. Is that a tree pedo in your pants Marc or are you just turned on by all that kit

  9. The sawpod is the dogs Had one since I started climbing, it never gets in the way and is never a pain to reach for as I sort of bring my leg closer to reach with out even thinking. The saw doesn't fall out either, although with general use, whether on the harness or on the leg, the saw and scabbard always loosen their grip, a good way of solving this is taping strong magnates to the scabbard. check out the official sawpod video [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE4qf-k5FN8&feature=g-all-s&context=G25eb293FAAAAAAAAGAA]The original sawpod video - YouTube[/ame] go for it you won't regret it
  10. you can use it in a RADS set up for SRT
  11. or you could have an in-line anchor point on you access line but still work SRT and have the access line still available for a rescue making it all retrievable, or would having two climbers weight on one line be too much weight thinking about loads on forks and base anchors, not equipment SWL
  12. that was really cool
  13. true I am loving the RW but not in every situation, don't like it for take downs, so I've been using both SRT and DDRT
  14. never knew fig sap was toxic but this tread has now explained the mysterious burn on my arm after pruning a fig yesterday. Thanks
  15. well said, I think your right, every tree is different so really every rescue system is going to be different and climbers and groundies need to put there heads together and work out the best system for that tree
  16. ok say the climber wasn't stropped in and the groundie went for the ground rescue option and the climber got stuck
  17. here's a scenario to throw a spanner in the works, say a two man team (climber and a groundie who can perform aerial rescue) and the climber is knocked unconscious whilst working SRT, he has previously installed a base anchor that requires the groundie to attach his line and cut the base anchor to lower the climber, on descent the climber gets a limb stuck in a fork and can't be lowered any more, what does the groundie do or what could he have done as a back up in the event this happened? Don't take this the wrong way as I'm all for working SRT and base anchor rescue methods, I already have a few ideas myself just want to find out what everyone else came up with.
  18. yeah used it in the rain yesterday worked very nicely but still would rather use it in the dry lol
  19. That's it I'm converted, had my first go on a RW today on a oak reduction, did one quarter on my SJ then after a quick coffee break setup the RW and took it for a spin, and I'm not going back it was awesome, messed about abit with the length of the lanyard and got it working well, also played with a few redirects and installed a RADS system with a kong duck and micro pulley but soon gave that up as I found it easier to just come back in normally, just need to tinker about with ascending and TIP methods and there'll be no stopping me haha
  20. petzl Williams work well, nice flat top and really wide to fit everything on
  21. nice one marc cool vid
  22. as promised here's some pics of my new home made pulley saver, used it for the first time today crown lifting 7 trees along a road so got lots of use, and retrieves really nicely
  23. cool thanks very much Drew, I'll give that ago.
