  1. Thanks for all your input everyone, spud is very kindly lending a virtual hand to get the old girl running. Has anyone got an oiler cap knocking around, it was badly chewed up when I got the saw and now I can't get it off:001_rolleyes: I realise I can buy one for about a fiver but I'm a tight wad, and if I keep spending on this thing I may as well of just bought a new saw:lol:
  2. Does it need to be a seat? The first pic has what looks like a tiny stairway winding up on the bottom right. If that is still there, you could extend it up and create a tower/church thing on a rock face.
  3. That ms 150 looks very interesting. The back handle looks like a great carving saw, any one heard any more about them? When are they out, How much?
  4. Here's another one
  5. Oops, I just realised I never got back to you:blushing: I don't have any pics Andrew as I've not yet made any but it's well within my skill set if you're after something different. You might want to ask on the milling forum, a lot of those guys make a bit of furniture. Cheers, Si
  6. Hi, some great carvings there mate. Day of the dead/grateful dead stuff is cool. As monkieman says decking oil is a good product, dries fast leaves no residues like linseed oil and has uv and anti fungal properties too. As for carving saws, best is stihl 200/201 back handle, 192 if you can get one,181/180 or 170/171 All depends on your budget and how much work you'll be doing. I'm soon to be trialing an old 010av if I can get it working Echo do some light saws but parts will be easier with Stihl. That's my two pence, good luck with your new saw. Cheers, Si
  7. Haha, that is a bit beyond my skill level spud. I had toyed with the idea of one for carving but I'm hoping the 010 will work well for me. Waiting on some bits from L&S. I'm fighting the urge to pack it off to you mate:001_tongue: I know you'd do a cracking job on it but I'm skint again so I'm hoping a bit of tinkering my end will be enough for now.
  8. Great tutorial:thumbup1: I now have axe envy:thumbdown:
  9. Snap it up quick!STIHL 017 PETROL CHAINSAW | eBay
  10. Very nice Si, you guys at the top of the heap are doing wonderful things with joining big lumps of wood together.
  11. Saw this on fb today.
  12. Sorry if I'm beginning to bore you all but I have more questions. I got the clutch off and found the needle bearing shot, which is a simple fix. Now there's no ID on the spur sprocket but looking at the parts list (supplied by spud,ta) there are 2, a 7 tooth and a 6 tooth. This one is a 6T. My question is what is the difference between them? Is it like a low pro? Also, there's no ID on the chain either, I assume it's picco. It looks of a similar size to some oregon 91vxl I have. Lastly,(for now:sneaky2:) I gave the carb a bit of a clean and although the membranes seem ok the top gasket has fused with the carb and left a wafer thin slice when it popped off. The saw is wanting to cut out if left at idle, do you guys think a carb kit is in order?
  13. Sussed the oil leak, after cleaning all the crap off I spotted one of the 3 screws on the oiler is missing. Hoping that's the only cause. Spud I should 've had it sent straight to you mate:laugh1: Tried to get it going again and it won't now, oh the joys of DIY. Can anyone put a link to some exploded diagrams please? I'll take a look at the carb tomorrow. Thanks, Si
  14. Forgot to ask, are the oilers adjustable on these saws? Cheers, Si
  15. OK, update. Had the muffler off and it was completely carboned up, worst I've ever seen. No spark arrester gauze so need to replace that. so scraped and scrubbed it clean. Good news is the piston is mint:thumbup: Couldn't get the damn clutch off:lol: yes I know it's clockwise off! After about 7 or 8 starts splutters and dies it kicked in and is running really well now:thumbup: Will a good dowse with wd40 help getting the clutch off? Found an issue with the oiler though, it's leaking a fair bit. Hoping it's an easy fix or I'll need to replace Bar and chain are very poor but will be using it for carving so not really an issue. So far so good, I may have got a bargain after all:biggrin:
  16. After reading other posts of people who've bought non runners off ebay and found themselves out of their depth, I have disregarded common sense and done it myself:lol: An 010av sold as a working spares/repairs ?? It fires up ok and then dies. All I've done so far is pop off the clutch cover(lots of black/burned looking sawdust) and wash the filter(really dirty) It's racing at idle (before it died) so was going to remove clutch and clean/inspect. Not had the muffler off yet, that's next job. Has anyone got a workshop manual for this saw?I've an owners one so ok in that respect. Any idea on the cause of it dying? Carb maybe? Cheers, Si
  17. Doh! Found them, I only had a quick blimp last time and didn't spot the second image s. I take it you're only stocking the most popular sprockets, I've an 010 AV winging it's way to me so I'll be after one for it soon. Cheers, Si
  18. Cool:thumbup1: Someone on here was only asking the other day where to get those sand o flex from. Needs a bit of info on each product though,ie bar nose sizes and which sprockets fit which saws would be handy too. Si
  19. This is what you mean, should be able to make your own now:thumbup1: Carving Post Forum: Eye Tools
  20. What's you're budget? and what sort of size are you wanting?
  21. Not heard of the tea idea before, I've used old very fine wire wool before in vinegar to get that ebonising solution. Didn't the leather tanners use oak galls as they are rich in tannin, maybe you could mulch some of them in vinegar to paint on woods with no tannin levels.
  22. Dervish, I guess as much or as little as you're prepared to pay mate. I've seen some on ebay for £150-200, which is way too much as far as I'm concerned.I'm after one for considerably less than that:sneaky2: Spud, cheers for that link mate, I think the 1/4 sprocket may turn out to be a spur, Phil just said they could order one in and I forgot to ask whether it's a spur or rim. Cheers, Si
  23. Get hold of RobD on here, Chainsaw bars, he'll sort you out. You'll even get an arbtalk discount:thumbup:
  24. Cheers for that buddy, Just found out Gustharts can get them in so am now on the look out for a bargain saw:sneaky2: Si
