  1. Hi Sean, like these a lot. That last one's perfect for red nose day:001_tongue: What is it, some kind of bracket?
  2. Hi Sean, pic 3 and 5 are crackers! Looking forward to more offerings:thumbup:
  3. Ha ha great. Think we might need to dig deeper for a prize for this comp though, unless it's a particularly special stick!
  4. Hi all, I would really like to see any photo's of trees or bits of log that have faces in them. Nature has a habit of producing great art, we just need to look out for it. I've attached a pic to get the ball rolling. You never know, this could develop into a competition!
  5. One of these days I'm going to post a carving video. When I get around to it, should I post on the carving forum or the video forum?
  6. That last wall hanging could make a pretty good horse head. I wouldn't mind utilising these sort of off cuts for some relief carvings:thumbup1:
  7. I agree, selling the work is definitely harder than making it. I know alot of great carvers/makers who really struggle promoting themselves and getting the work seen. The internet is a fantastic way to put your work out there but it's no substitute to experiencing a piece of furniture or art up close and personal. Loving your work, by the way Rob.
  8. :001_unsure:Thanks for clearing that one up!
  9. Cheers, is it Wolverhampton Uni in the picture?
  10. Hi Paul, Like John, I'm new to this forum and by no means a chainsaw carver, but have been scratching a living as a sculptor for about 15 yrs. Looks like an great job opp, so please pass on my details if you think they'd be interested.
  11. All sorted mate:thumbup1: It's a great resource!
  12. Nice one, yes I'd like to see those. Who made them?
  13. Sorry, but someone had to:biggrin: here's two of 'em
  14. You could try Rustins Anti-bacterial Chopping Board Oil. Not used it myself but sounds like a safe bet. Does it have to be a butchers block? would make a lovely stool or side table.
  15. Ha, yes it's still for sale. It's been out gettin weathered so it's looking almost black now. Here's a more recent piccy for now,and if you're still interested I'll send you a price. I'm intrigued about the artificial ones- are they lifesize?
  16. Hi Rob, cheers for the offer, I'll google you out of interest but I'm just not set up for hauling big stuff Will bear in mind for future though, thanks. The chair's not my first piece, been at it some years now lol. Thinking back my first piece was pretty poor.
  17. Hi, not sure if this is going to work but here's a link showing a selection of pics as a sculpture develops. No shots of the untouched log-sorry, I only remembered to capture it halfway through the carve:lol:
  18. Thanks to everyone for the welcoming words and feedback. Lorry, yes great idea. I keep meaning to but get wrapped up in the making and forget to stop to capture it:lol: Thanks to Griff for the offer Not being in the arb business it's sometimes frustrating trying to get hold of big diameter trunks. Dave, yes I agree it does an element of retro chic. and lastly David you're not wrong, it's pretty weighty. Designed as an indoor/outdoor seat, you wouldn't want to be shifting it about too much. I'm still finding my way around this site, but will take the time soon to have a good look at the whole site and will happily add my money's worth as far as sculpting tips/ advice on other threads.
  19. Thanks, and thanks again Ian
  20. very nice, love the finger joints detail! Simon Archer sculptor: Welcome
  21. Hi, I've recently joined this site so this is my first offering. Chair carved from an old off cut of sycamore, with the addition of cleaved holly legs. I'd like to develop the design and make some more soon. I'm a sculptor, based in the north west around about Liverpool so if any of you out there are near by and able to supply large diameter logs I would very much like to do business:biggrin:
