  1. It would be good to see some actual cutting being done as they used to show on Ax men, but I thought the last series was all done for the cameras. Anyhoo, Ax men is on again at 10pm on History or Discovery ( cant remember which) on saturday (I think). I'm not so good at this information giving stuff..
  2. I got a good deal from Arnold Clark in Perth for a Navara. They even drove it up to Inverness for me so I didn't have to go down to get it.
  3. I have both Le Chameau leather lined wellies and Meindel Dovre Extreme boots. The wellies are great for a day beating through bogs, but on steeper rougher ground the Meindels are better. The Meindels are almost like wellies anyway with their height, but you have more support and more weight. I would recomend both. Meindel BushWear: Meindl Dovre Extreme GTX -wide Boots When I'm driving with these, I tie them off at the ankle then do them right up when I'm good to go.
  4. Ah, the nearest Russians to us are probably in Russia. No problems there I don't think. Does CB work with UHF radios?
  5. Good stuff Andy. Aye I wouldn't have any problems round here with kids being on air. There is only around 200 people in the village mostly over 60 years old and only a dozen wee squids. The sprogs that are here are more into the Nintendo DS. As long as there isn't a Nintendo DS UHF I would be sorted. Cheers..
  6. Ah, I used UHF when I was working on a cruise ship once which gave us a great signal through steel and up to a few miles away where we were working. Thanks again for all the replies, I need to learn abit more about these things..
  7. Do you know how much a licence is. Also anyone know what is the difference between UHF and VHF? I have a VHF licence for sailing though I think you are not allowed to use it from land for some reason.
  8. Thanks Paul and Desertrat. Aye Desert, but we have poor phone coverage here. My phone works in less that 50% of the forest. Where I mostly work there is no signal..
  9. Does anyone know of any walkie talkie radios that would be good for use in a forest with a coverage of about 3-4 miles. Similar to another post here, I am working alone and in an area with no phone coverage. There is nothing between the house and the forest line of sight wise.I need to be able to check in now and again and am thinking of a radio that would work up to 4 miles away. If it worked with CB radio it could be handy too. Maybe have a home base at the house and a walkie with me. Does anyone use or know of something like this? Thanks.
  10. Great stuff! Thanks again for all the replies. I will look into it tomorrow..
  11. Thanks for the replies. The work will be done in our own private forest owned by our family. There may be a couple of other smaller jobs on other private forests owned by another family. Getting training somewhere now seems to be the problem..
  12. I am trying to find out if there is a qualification needed or existing on the use of forwarders? I am going to be using one on our own private land. I have been told by one forestry college that it doesn't exist, but then I'm told HSE says you have to have training. It all seems a bit airy-fairy...Any ideas? Thanks.

(Medicine) See athletic support [from Old French supporter, from Latin supportāre to bring, from sub- up + portāre to carry]
  14. Oh my...Sorrrry! Aye ok I hope they win. But support can also be by willing someone on(holding a person up and so on). Ok maybe not shouting at the TV, but you hear athletes saying they got support from the crowd that helped them along..
  15. I support lots of English athletes from rowing, cycling, track, windsurfing and others, but I can't stand football and all the hype. I don't follow any football, but could probably tell you all about 1966 (I was born in 73). I'm actually hoping England win next time so they can change the record and maybe talk the next century about whatever year the WC is. Anyway, come on Cavendish and Wiggins! Even Miller ( Is it just me or does he not sound very Scottish when he speaks?)
  16. And a tidy bird...Ah well next year...
  17. That was actually misquoted in the press. He was having a joke with Tim Henman on TV and they both had a laugh about it. He lives in England with his English girlfriend. Not arguing, but just giving the facts. COME ON ANDY!!!
  18. You guys are having a lot of rain eh. We are needing some. Not complaining, but 4 months dry sunny and only 7 rainy days means it's very dry here in the islands. At least the wind has finally kicked in so I might get out windsurfing today..
  19. On now on BBC2 all about forests.
  20. Windsurfing, surfing, kitesurfing, sailing, mountain biking, road cycling, running, rowing, weight training, slacklining, fishing, shooting, guitar and harmonica. I read sometimes.
  21. If you are near a ferry port or the likes try asking for their old ropes. I get them here after they have been used so many hours (HSE and all that). We use one for a 15t boat mooring. I have a couple of thinner ones for towing. The last one I got would have cost £1000+ if I bought it new, the guy on the pier said I saved him a job of taking it to landfill!
  22. I had an SJ410 years ago. I got stuck in a peat bog miles from the road and no mobiles then. I pulled the stereo out of the dash to use under the jack( i didn't have anything else). Jacked it up and pushed it over and drove away. The stereo was left to dry a week and stuck back in. I thought it would be knackered, but worked right up till i sold it. Really light for off road, but dangerous in high winds!
  23. He didn't use it much! Mine is covered in sap, a great saw.
  24. When I did my comercial diving ticket we had to be tested in the chamber for nitrogen narcosis. No helium, but thin air makes you talk funny with less effect to helium. I couldn't write anything down because of laughing so much. 8 guys in the pot trying to answer 2+2 ended up in hysterical laughter.. Funny as a funny thing!
  25. You can't go wrong with a Cube. German mass produced which keeps the price down compared to bikes built here. Good quality spec. Hard to beat price for spec. Have a look at Bikes, Bike Reviews, Cycling Routes, Race News - BikeRadar for lots of bike reviews.
