  1. Windsurfing, surfing, kitesurfing, sailing, mountain biking, road cycling, running, rowing, weight training, slacklining, fishing, shooting, guitar and harmonica. I read sometimes.
  2. If you are near a ferry port or the likes try asking for their old ropes. I get them here after they have been used so many hours (HSE and all that). We use one for a 15t boat mooring. I have a couple of thinner ones for towing. The last one I got would have cost £1000+ if I bought it new, the guy on the pier said I saved him a job of taking it to landfill!
  3. I had an SJ410 years ago. I got stuck in a peat bog miles from the road and no mobiles then. I pulled the stereo out of the dash to use under the jack( i didn't have anything else). Jacked it up and pushed it over and drove away. The stereo was left to dry a week and stuck back in. I thought it would be knackered, but worked right up till i sold it. Really light for off road, but dangerous in high winds!
  4. He didn't use it much! Mine is covered in sap, a great saw.
  5. When I did my comercial diving ticket we had to be tested in the chamber for nitrogen narcosis. No helium, but thin air makes you talk funny with less effect to helium. I couldn't write anything down because of laughing so much. 8 guys in the pot trying to answer 2+2 ended up in hysterical laughter.. Funny as a funny thing!
  6. You can't go wrong with a Cube. German mass produced which keeps the price down compared to bikes built here. Good quality spec. Hard to beat price for spec. Have a look at Bikes, Bike Reviews, Cycling Routes, Race News - BikeRadar for lots of bike reviews.

    Biting flys

No, not clegs. They are wee flys. I am working in woods, they seem to be about more in the sunshine. There aren't many when I'm working in the shade. I still have bite marks from about 10 days ago. I got some more on saturday when I was wearing shorts while biking.

    Biting flys

In the last couple of weeks i've been bitten by some sort of small fly. They look like a normal house fly, but about a third of the size. Their legs are coloured black with a white patch in the middle. The black-white-black colouring is roughly in thirds. I have been bitten a few times on my arms and legs now. The marks come up in a lump and are really itchy for days later. I thought midges were bad, but these things are something else! I've never seen them before. We have had a really warm March in the Hebrides so I dunno if that has something to do with it. Any ideas what these beasts are?
  9. I'm planting them too. I hope to have quite a selection around my house , which hasn't been built yet. I'm working on my garden so far..
  10. I planted some seeds a couple of weeks ago and 3 have sprouted just yesterday. I'm 39 now, but like the idea someday people might remember who planted them when they are huge..
  11. My quad has seen better days, infact the frame has collapsed and a few other problems. Though brakes aren't important. I don't think the dumper or the Haggalunds would be so suitable. I had thought of the Haggalunds before, but they are a bit wide. I would love one just for going all over the island! I'm having a look at a couple of small forwarders. The Norcar which it seems are now Logset and the Mini Bruunett. I missed out on a decent looking one. There are a few battered looking ones around Europe.
  12. Thanks for all the replies. I think we might be needing some sort of tracked machine.
  13. Hola all. Iwould like to find out if a small forwarder would be the best machine for taking wood to the road on deep peat ground. Over the years I've used quads and an Argo for hauling fencing materials all over the area and find its too wet and slippery to be hauling antyhing over a couple of hundred kilos. Does anyone have an idea what a smallish forwarder (a load of 4 tonnes or so) would be like on uneven peat ground. There are no really steep slopes and the farthest haul would be about a mile.
  14. I would guess the handle when it's upright.
  15. Looks like a handy machine to do a few jobs..
  16. Oilskin trousers over your gear stops any thorns catching' A bit sweaty on a hot day, but no tears or snagging.
  17. I had an 05 plate D22 and of course the engine went pop. It was fine after it was fixed though. I now have a D40 which has a lot more pulling power. I'm not so keen on a switch for the 4WD, but it works fine. I put new tyres on as soon as I got it because the ones it came with were rubbish on wet grass. My brother has an 08 L200 which has less guts than my old D22. We had a gas cylinder and 10 bags of cement in the back of his L200 and it seemed to struggle. He did have an 06 Hilux which had loads of problems with the engine management.
  18. I have given food to folk I didn't know. They are not always looking for drugs. I ask them if they are really wanting food or is it for drugs or booze and if the answer is no I buy the food and give them that. It's not against junkies or boozers, but I don't want to fund them killing themselves. I don't give the cash.
  19. There was a 60kt kind of breeze here today. Ferries were off for a while..
  20. Hah hah hah ! Brilliant! I would do the same.
  21. Since Rover mentioned importing them first I would like to order one if you are taking names. £99 seems reasonable even though I now get a free prescription of ibuprofen. Stick me down for one. I will pm you my phone number.
  22. That looks like quite an old bar.
  23. I made this out of scrap handrails and wall ties. I just use a pair of tongs to pull the log through. I am going to put a guard on it yet too.
  24. Nah, the place for the balls aren't big enough..
  25. I use a lot of the Power Bar gels which are great and also have a tube (20 tablets) of High 5 Zero. There is no sugar in Zero, but is an electrolyte mix. 1 tablet mixed with a litre of water keeps cramp away. Easy to keep in your lunch bag. I've used a lot of different stuff over the years as an outdoor sports instructor and lots of outdoor work and now cutting and find these two are the best (for me). I sweat a lot and usually drink around 6 liters at work so lose a lot of the salts and sugars which these two replace. Oh aye, a stick of RJ's natural licorice is always in my pocket for an extra boost.
