  1. My only memories of whisky are dropping of the Christmas bottles of bells to customers and farmers we dealt with, then the biggest farmer we dealt with invited me in for a drink (I only drank rum) and he had none, well bells whisky was the most vile poison I have ever tasted, but it was one of those situations where I really didn't want to be unsociable and boy could he drink. Older and wiser I would just turn the offer down now, I would never want to go through that again it's a bit like throwing up on southern comfort, you are guaranteed to never touch the stuff again I'll just stick to my rum.
  2. Those are self priming but generally not a great flow rate, the cone impeller ones from honda and wacker have decent flows and self priming, admittedly they are pricey but I would worry about running electric pumps in a flood situation. We found that if you have to start putting head on the cheaper submersibles they don't like it, the flow rates drop dramatically and they become quite unreliable, but I doubt head would be a problem in this situation. Although I am high up if I have problems I have this to fall back on

    From the album: bike

  4. proper trash pumps don't need priming
  5. Guess you won't be using them again. Did they say why they were in bits still ? I would be more bothered that you have all the parts.
  6. If you don't know by now there isn't much hope
  7. Erbaurer or Ebara ? Ebara are good pumps, we have one down a well during summer feeding a reservoir and it runs 24/7 for at least 6 months and it's never missed a beat.
  8. If it was me I would be looking at a small petrol trash pump, dearer but will have a much bigger flow rate for if you need it and you can slow the revs to match the output of whats flowing in.
  9. Is the generator going to be powering other stuff as well as the pump ?
  10. That's not good, hope it works out ok for her
  11. We roughly go through 16 c/m a year if it's cold, going to be less than that though this year I recon.
  12. Nice unit but far too much weight on the drawbar imo
  13. not read the whole thread but a to the top of the page button would be good
  14. Well I have just got back from a decent trip out delivering with the truck and trailer and I am chuffed with how it handled, no roll and no sway, one of the best towing set ups I have driven (apart from the gutless 300tdi). Ended up with terrafirma tf011 +2" HD on the rear with the assisters inside, but I had to turn a bit off the top assister plates to get them to fit ok, it is pretty hard when empty but I can live with that, the truck didn't drop by much at all when we loaded it and it was just light of 3500kg and had the trailer full aswell.
  15. I have had a few over the years, good reliable machines, we hire them out and they rarely need more than an oil change and blades changing, it pays to keep decent blades on it, from a time factor the time decent blades save far out way the cost. Second hand they generally command a decent price So far we have always had the C8 but when we replace next time we will probably go with the C10 although a lot dearer
  16. You really need to sell that project to me As said before when you posted them pics, that is one cracking lorry.
  17. You could look into muck grab cranes which are similar to timber cranes. I took the rotator and grab off my crane as it was just too slow, generally much bigger ram bores on standard cranes because of the higher lifting capacities which also slows everything down. I would imagine the reason for so few 3 point linkage cranes is the stability testing would be a knightmare, put it on a different tractor and it would need retesting.

Its a bonfiglioli 3500l on a 146 ifor tri axle A very handy piece of kit Regards Keith
  19. We found it wasn't worth the saving for road derv, quite often it worked out slightly dearer but was more convenient, you need to buy in huge volume to save on it.
  20. They are very well liked by people but the biggest they do is quite a bit under the extreme 4x4 ones, and when I spoke to extreme they were happy for me to try them and if I don't like them so long as I haven't bashed them they will happily take them back, that said they are about the same price.
  21. Well everything arrived today, and it's all got to go back The springs don't fit, measuring them it appears they have been wound too loose, and the air suspension has the wrong bottom plates and doesn't appear to fit very well with even the new but lower rated springs I am taking off, as there is a very large gap and the top and bottom plates won't stay in. I didn't realise but extreme 4x4 are only down the road from me, and they have a set of standard height HD springs but they aren't cheap.
  22. I had a heck of a job finding a set of bearmach HD springs (ba2100), they have none available until at least the end of the month possibly longer, managed to get the last set on ebay
  23. I looked at the terrafirma 2" lift HD springs as I was struggling to get a set of bearmach HD springs, terrafirmas are rated at 420lbft/in & the bearmachs are rated at 510lbft/in. The standard rears for a 3500kg are rated at 330lbft/in
  24. Mine is just a flat bed not a tipper, it has all new genuine landy springs with assisters and boge shocks and we are finding it's way too soft, so have a set of bearmach heavy duty springs and air assistors coming tomorrow, can let you know how much better it is when we try it next week.
  25. I wear these pit boots from william lennon once worn in they are really comfortable, take a hell of a battering and a lot of concrete, and best of all they are made in britain
