  1. Top work clive, u certainly wouldn't get that in IKEA. What did you finish it with, how many coats will it get? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  2. Borax is cheap and clear, wouldn't worry about the odd hole, just hide any obvious ones after construction. I usually use furniture repair wax of the appropriate colour. Get in the habit of boraxing as soon as its milled. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. Got a Hitachi service agent 15miles from me, had tri get brushes for my circular from him, I prefer the Hitachi to my skill, I doubt parts for the gun will be a problem but 2 year warranty so won't find out in a hurry. Expect delivery Tuesday so will let u know my first impressions soon. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  4. So i decided against the nail gun i mentioned as i found the hitachi nr90gc2 available for cheaper. 2 batteries, 2 year warranty, £250 delivered, will let you all know how i get on with it.
  5. You should be able to butcher your blanks nicely with that, 636 is a nice tool to use. Good luck and have fun. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  6. How much do u need, what thickness. Got a little I could spare. 8 year air dried. Every board I've planed has 1or2 worm holes in though. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  7. I was hoping this thread was about someone chopping brash with a silky and racing a chipper:beer: Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. Just realised what forum this is, u probably want trees. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. How much do u want? Butt or planks. Green or dry? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. Some nice looking boards mate, shame about the rot inclusion, but should get plenty of useable wood out of it Good work. James
  11. thanks alec, will look into the mini mill further.
  12. Thanks alec, theoretical question here. would it be safe to use the minimill in such a way that the bar was totally buried inthe wood. Eg. massive log, big alskan to flatten top, set up minimill cut top into 4" widths, backto big alaskan, cut off 2" planks for dimensional 4x2 straight off log, Thanks James
  13. Thanks for the replies, been watching video and bar is always orientated vertical, can you use this mill in a horizontal position,or is it always vertical. What size bar would you recommend i used. Thx again James
  14. Bought the mill on ebay with spare 051 powerhead Because its a big mill i thought about setting the spare powerhead up as a smaller alaskan forthe smaller jobs. maybe with an 18" cut, any bigger and id get the big one out. is this a sensible idea? what bar and chain would i need, whats the most suitable mill. Thanks alot James
  15. It works same way at normal auction house too, i bought a core cutter and drill set from an auction house a few months ago, advertised as full working order, when i got it home i plugged it in and nothing. On inspection it had no brushes and clutch was clearly broken. Returned to auction house, got full refund of £90, made them an offer of £25 and walked away with it. bought clutch part needed, made some brushes, everybody happy. Contracts are always 2 way, and i definately am not a bad buyer. James
  16. Exactly that, i have no intention of messing anyone around, he has a duty to advertise the lot accurately and if he has,i.e. item is in good working order then we dont have a problem. If hes advertised incorrectly then he has cost me time and money. Its too far for me to travel twice. I meerely wanted to check that there wasnt an obvious thing on the mill, which may only show up in use and not by an amateur inspection, that would deem it useless. The legalities of an auction work both ways and i certainly have no intention of breaking my contract, providing he hasnt already broken his. Im going to collect next sunday, so ill post some pics of it in use when i get round to it.
  17. Imo avoid like the plague. Expensive pretend Eco heat. For that money you can install a gasification boiler and get Proper Eco heat. The whole system is nonsense to me, like leaving a fridge open to cool Ta house down in summer. Just doesn't work. Avoid avoid avoid. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  18. thanks peeps, quite excited got a few butts lined up to do already.
  19. Thats the one, do you think a good purchase or not? Obviously im just wanting to check its as advertised and in good working order. thx for your advice.
  20. Could be him i guess, thought he may have put it up a little earlier if it was him though?
  21. Yeah sorry, pic there now.
  22. Hi all just bought this mill on ebay. Would appreciate a little advice on what i should be checking out on these before handing over cash, obviously ill be checking the powerheads run ok . But what should i be checking on mill etc. Will be my first mill, so newbie on this really. Thx, help really appreciated. James
  23. So wouldyou buy the cheaper peterson, could have slabber and weatherboard attatchment and £2000change, or the more expensive lucas with no extras?
  24. Ive benen looking into buying a mill lately, i was shocked at the cost of a lucas, every forum i read says lucas are cheaper then peterson but i got prices last week and its considerably the other way. 8" Lucas no extras £13600 8" Peterson ats no extras £10311 Surprised me,coz im thinking that the peterson is maybe better, but i know others differ. James
  25. Tree quip is correct, pre 97 cant exceed the towing weight of car, they have a max train weight of 8.2 tonnes, but only if the vehicle and trailer are rated for it, after 97 max train 3.5 tonnes max trailer 750kg. Some exceptions for caravans on domestic car for after 97
