  1. That's right. The quickload is essentially unbranded, was going to go for it because of price, but as said found the Hitachi for 250 delivered so went for that. Had another play today and I can't fault it, at roughly half price of paslode and still a decent brand, I would say its well worth considering. The 2 year warranty also stands whatever nails and gas you use. I have been told that paslode warranty is compliant on own brand fixings being used, though am not certain. 2. Took delivery of my new Hitachi gun today, and bostitch nails. It's quite a tool. Only fired a handful of nails into a few different woods, and im more than happy with it so far. Will start using properly in next couple of weeks and will let you know how it fares, fitting a kitchen at the minute, thought about using it to fit the worktops but not sure how the customer would feel about that:D Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. Organic is the future, and so are gardeners. All mass non organic farming relies heavily on oil and gas for all fertilisers and pesticides, although it May appear that conventional farming is the best way, when the oil is gone many will starve. Conventional farming even makes the soil completely infertile so oil based products are necessary. Imo forest gardening is the future. The most fertile places in farms are the hedgerows. Watch Farm for/of the future on you tube. It's very interesting. Forest gardening and permaculture will be the only way when ancient solar energy is gone and we have to rely on current solar energy. Rant over. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  4. Thx guys, gifted one to my sister, our helpful cousin, who was staying with her a few weeks cleared up her kitchen for her, the Board and two handmade knives, my bro in laws work, straight in dishwaser! You really start to understand the different water absorbtion rates of different woods when you see the mess that came out. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  5. I have been considering making a chess board in the same way, but how to make the matching pieces is hard, as I'm not a carved. any ideas greatly recieved. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  6. heres a couple of projects i finished recently, all wood sourced from our own woodland. Beech and walnut end grain chopping board. Made a batch of 4, not as compliacated as it looks. Walnut and apple sliding dovetail jewelery box with secret locking pin. Sorry about quality of pics,i seem to have damaged my camera.
  7. Are you going to use these boards as a roof cover instead of shingles? Do you not think you may have problems with driving rain if the boards do cup?
  8. Mill collected today, all seems sweet. Got a lime butt I was going to log, but think ill mill it next week for a little practice. Pics to follow. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. Your wasted on tree work clive, still I guess it gets you some mice wood! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. Any chance of a pic of one of your oil burners clive? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. Cleared out a retiring gun stock maker last year and there were a couple of semi roughed out blanks of walnut. 3" thick but not 50" guess there about 36-40" long. Probably 30+ years old so very dry. Would these be any good to you? Not much use to me coz of shape, I'd waste most of it. so would happily part with. If your at all interested let me know and ill post pics and sizes to see if suitable. There not as dark as most walnut, he told me exactly what they were, but can't remember, couldn't be certain there English as there were a lot of tropicals in what I took from him. 12. Top work clive, u certainly wouldn't get that in IKEA. What did you finish it with, how many coats will it get? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. Borax is cheap and clear, wouldn't worry about the odd hole, just hide any obvious ones after construction. I usually use furniture repair wax of the appropriate colour. Get in the habit of boraxing as soon as its milled. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. Got a Hitachi service agent 15miles from me, had tri get brushes for my circular from him, I prefer the Hitachi to my skill, I doubt parts for the gun will be a problem but 2 year warranty so won't find out in a hurry. Expect delivery Tuesday so will let u know my first impressions soon. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. So i decided against the nail gun i mentioned as i found the hitachi nr90gc2 available for cheaper. 2 batteries, 2 year warranty, £250 delivered, will let you all know how i get on with it.
  16. You should be able to butcher your blanks nicely with that, 636 is a nice tool to use. Good luck and have fun. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. How much do u need, what thickness. Got a little I could spare. 8 year air dried. Every board I've planed has 1or2 worm holes in though. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  18. I was hoping this thread was about someone chopping brash with a silky and racing a chipper:beer: Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  19. Just realised what forum this is, u probably want trees. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  20. How much do u want? Butt or planks. Green or dry? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. Some nice looking boards mate, shame about the rot inclusion, but should get plenty of useable wood out of it Good work. James
  22. thanks alec, will look into the mini mill further.
  23. Thanks alec, theoretical question here. would it be safe to use the minimill in such a way that the bar was totally buried inthe wood. Eg. massive log, big alskan to flatten top, set up minimill cut top into 4" widths, backto big alaskan, cut off 2" planks for dimensional 4x2 straight off log, Thanks James
  24. Thanks for the replies, been watching video and bar is always orientated vertical, can you use this mill in a horizontal position,or is it always vertical. What size bar would you recommend i used. Thx again James
  25. Bought the mill on ebay with spare 051 powerhead Because its a big mill i thought about setting the spare powerhead up as a smaller alaskan forthe smaller jobs. maybe with an 18" cut, any bigger and id get the big one out. is this a sensible idea? what bar and chain would i need, whats the most suitable mill. Thanks alot James
