  1. Have a look for farm auctions near you, get some great deals on quads and all sorts oftractors at some ive been to.
  2. Thanks Treesuggs:thumbup:
  3. Me too, but dont be suprised if they do, id be tempted to leave in the round and make them in 3 years or so.
  4. Redmoose is right. Worth much more if you put some legs on it.
  5. But that figure may be hard to achieve, if i had a buyer id start at about 150 i think and go from there. Had a piece of luck a coupleof months ago when an aged gun stock maker decided to clear out his stock, mostly over 25 years old, but couldnt find a buyer. There were 3large black walnut boarsd like yours at 2" thick from a crotch fork several stock pieces of tropical including coco bolo, afromosia, paduak, brazilian rosewood, lignum vitae, olive, blackwood, ebony and loads more, He wantd rid coz it wasall over his dining room and missus was giving him grief. I had £250 inmy pocket and couldnt afford more, he accepted this and i was a happy man. I dont usually buy any lumber thats not native but made exception here. My wood store is now very healthy.
  6. I would suggest this board would be worth £100-150.
  7. thanks woodEd:thumbup:
  8. :thumbup:thanks Nick.
  9. Hi guys, Decided i better do my 30and 31 before i buy my woodland, but after much searching im unable to find anything within 130 miles. Any ideas on where i can do it without all the traveling, or a recommendation of a place that offers cheap accomadation too thx. james
  10. An old chap told me to chuck the trap in a pond overnight to erradicate smell on it. Guess This would work, I wouldnt keep my birds behind anything but chainlink, 6ft high with a 1ft chicken wire protrusion at top. See loads of fox prints in the snow round the run, but they never get in. Touching wood right now!
  11. Hi simon, welcome to arbtalk. Have included a picture of a design of bench(not mine) that i have made similar inthe past. Easy to make from planked wood and no fancy joinery. If you can make me a bench like picture 2, ill give you good money for it, James
  12. Copford sawmill, i will pm you a cutting list for 1 door and frame if you would like to quote. probably tomorrow. Thx James
  13. Spec means i need lumber between 1 inch and 1.5 inch thick. supplier is chiltern green timber co. A guy called steve who has an oak and larch woodland and a lucas mill. Nice chap. suprised hes not on here, might mention it to him.
  14. Thanks for the reply Blaise, Unfortunately i found a regular supply of seasoned larch from a larch woodland about 15miles from me(wendover). Having said that your butt looks quite nice and you should decide on a use for it, its great for any outside project like benches, fences, garden buildings etc, so decide on a use for it and have some fun. Imo its a very underrated wood with a beautiful hue and grain, which should be used more regularly. Thanks again and happy milling. James
  15. Went to one a few years ago, saw a good condition stihl saw(about 35cc from memory). Asked the guy what he wanted for it, and he said he bought it off his brother to do some limbs in garden but he couldnt get it running and thought hed messed up mix and seized it. I opened fuel tank and saw it was full of chain oil and vice versa. Paid him£5 for it. Took it home and cleaned tanks and carb etc, new fuel and it fired right up. Give it to me dad to replace his old beast. Lovely. Sometimes you do get lucky.
  16. Bloke i live with did this once, I got up on roof and pushed it down with another brush. Personally i wouldnt be in the burn it out club but each to there own. Hope u get it out ok. good luck
  17. Thinking of getting taptalk , so was wondering if there was news on the release of the branded one. Thanks James
  18. :thumbup:Good job matey, For someone who said you were working it out as you went, you have done very well. Top marks.
  19. Thanks for the info guys, pm sent to Ian.
  20. morning, im thinking of buying the lm pro sawmill from logosol, just wondering if anyones had experience dealing with this company in the past andwhat the feedback is. Thanks James
  21. I wouldnt use yew for chopping boards. not worth the risk.
  22. Completely agree, go for it, gloss paint or pva on the ends. paraffin wax is the traditional material used i believe, but a right faff. Cherry is a beautiful wood but have always found it to be very sussceptable to warping and moving. Bought one piece from a farmer milled into 8x8,he told me it was 6 years old, Thought id resaw into one 8x4 and two 8x2s, let if finish drying and make a table. Made first cut in middle and watched the two bits bend like bananas in front of my eyes. I cut them in half and still have them stacked. Will get round to the table one day. Happy milling. james
  23. Sounds to me like blocked main jet, running on pilot jet until you give it some revs. My advice would be, remove and open carb, use a paint brush and petrol to clean everything. Locate the main jet. Probably brass and it will unscrew. Remove carefully and use some thin copper wire to poke any gunk out of jet. Flush through with petrol and a short blow like a straw. Rebuild carb and replace. Then test.... Hope this helps
  24. Heres the link. The guys a bit more safety conscious than me, but good at what he does. I set my table saw at 42degrees for the cuts and it works well. Then i buy good quality wet and dry in rolls and stick it in strips to some plate glass i use 6 grades upto 600grit and those blades come out super sharp. I now keep my blades sharper than when i had to send off. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIBKp9_hWLo]Planer knife honing jig - YouTube[/ame] Cheers James
  25. Hi Alec, Ive got a dw733 too, and your right there great, brought mine factory reconditioned and it was a bargain. made a simple jig so i can sharpen my blades my self, as i was never happy with the quality of sharpening at my local shop, and the amount of material they removed. Jig is easy to make and i get my blades super sharp now. Only send them off for grinding if i take a big lump out of them. Not sure how the jig would work on 24" blades but i guess if your wet and dry was long enough its possible. Let me now if your interested and ill send you a video link. Clive, do you choose to cut your boards out on a bandsaw or router with template. Thanks James
