  1. I'm amazed there's no takers. Lovely big butts don't come my way enough!
  2. I bet you couldn't buy it for less than £5500 + vat in this country. Seems a lot to me.
  3. If you do find some, could you update with price info please, as I'd be interested on the costings my self. Thx
  4. Consent for things like this in a conservation area can be difficult. I know someone who had to take a treehouse down in a c a as it needed planning permission of sorts.
  5. looks lovely, shame your not closer. the ice cream may have swung the distance though.
  6. Hey guys, one more quick question if thats ok, All parts for the overhaul are ordered, but when i look at the parts diagram the fuel line and impulse line have the same part no. so there made of the same hose. Is this correct? Thanks James
  7. Thanks for all the help guys, and a most useful video. Thanks again. James
  8. Don't you think that with use, the amount of fuel used would cost a fortune, don't have any experience running saws like the 88 but wouldn't a fourstroke would use far less. I understand the benfits of mobility but a peterson atm is pretty mobile.
  9. Thanks Alec, few questions if you dont mind. Whats included in a carb kit from rowena and after looking atthere website im slightly bemused as to which kit i should order. Is the fuel filter you speak of in the tank pickup, or isthere another one, whats the difference between impulse line and fuel line. Thanks mate, James
  10. thanks guys, third saw has similar symptoms to the first now! was just milling some holly with it, and managed to hit a nail at about the same time as the saw started complaining and labouring. Think Alec hit nail on head with seized saw, 2 of the threads on the recoil casing are stripped, why it was spare saw, ordered some helicoils to fix it earlier but didnt think it would cause these problems till just reading this. Think i have a lot to learn about tuning these saws and keeping them running. THinking of stripping carb and fuel system down on all 3 for a clean and inspection, is this sensible? Also if you had bought these saws is there a method you would use for tuning and inspecting them all before putting into service, any advice on this would be great. Thanks JAmes
  11. HI Chaps, Was out milling today on twin powerhead mill with two 051avs, was milling well, just before exiting one cut one powerhead cut out and wouldnt refire. Took plug out and its as dry as a bone, so thinking carb off and clean fuel system. Does this concur with your thoughts? Also i have a spare powerhead that i went to attatch to mill, ive never used this or tried to start it since i bought it when it started fine. Now its like theres somuch compression you can hardly pull it, sometimes these saws kickback at you when starting but then free up, this one wont. Its definately not seized but wonder if anyone has any clues how to remedy this. Im a reasonable mechanic, but dont have that much experience with saws, mainly on 2 stroke motorbikes and 4 stroke generators/gokarts. Any saw specific lingo may have to be spelled out. Any advice greatly appreciated and thanks for your time. James
  12. That seems fair to me, the best person to ask would belt big j though. May be better posting in milling forum though.
  13. whats your location?
  14. Any idea what it weighs so I can factor delivery in, I'm near Milton keynes, so that factor May just kill it.
  15. Looks nice, I'd be interested. Where abouts are you and what do u want for it? Thanks james
  16. Thanks alec, but it was more robs assessment than mine. I've so far only used my Alaskan for a few hours and not adjusted too much, but find the big stihl mill quicker to adjust, this May change in time though.
  17. I'm no expert like alec, but with an 076 running, would the cheapest option not be to buy a roller sprocket thing or helper handle to run the mill and bar he's got single handed? I thought about this option for me, but didn't think my 051s would run the big mill alone, so bought the 24" Alaskan. You could buy a helper handleand a 24"alaskan for smaller stuff. You have a 30" bar which is the right size for 24" Alaskan. James
  18. Talk talk are pita. Cancelled my account with them then 18 months later said no record of cancellation and huge bill. Fought them over it, no good, then came on watchdog that they had done same to thousands. 2 days later they closed case. Wouldn't touch em with yours.
  19. Where about are you, I would be interested depending on location.
  20. Not really sure what advice you want? If its for what sanders or jigsaws here's my thoughts. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=181128687133&index=17&nav=SEARCH&nid=71210329216 This sander or the equivalent dewalt are both ace and good value. I have dewalt but used makita and both similar. I would get which ever you can find cheapest. Jigsaw is going to cost a lot of money for a decent one. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=390534813472&cmd=VIDESC This is good for the price, but if you can't afford something like this, get a powerful cheap Chinese thing, if you buy somewhere with a warranty you can replace when it breaks. I find erbaurer(screwfix own brand) a reasonable compromise on price and quality. but make sure you buy quality blades whatever saw you buy.
  21. Wow this is amazing, what an invention, a stick on bubble. Can't believe it only took them 3 years to develop. Sure I had something similar in a cracker a while back.
  22. That's what I thought, only use my wood planings for animal bedding. Dust from a circular saw is resonably useless as such. Most of mine used for our chickens, but wouldn't give them dust, due to coughs etc. All we sometimes use the dust for is a little in compost and firing clay pots.
  23. To be honest there's day fair few of them I could mill, but not sure how they will dry being so short? Probably make a small side table out of this one if good enough when dry.
  24. Top work, i completely agree with you, almost like a temporary work of art in their garden. Will you leave the stack like that, or cover the tops? What do you use for stickers? i just cut a load out ofa few offcuts of18mm ply, but only coz it was waste. James
  25. So i received my new 24" alaskan + bar and chain from rob d yesterday. Assembled it and found an hour to play this afternoon. Put it on one of my 051av and milled a 30" length of yew id rescued from the neighbours wood pile. They had a yew cut down and didnt say anything, gutted to see it in 30" butts but better than logs, Beautiful colouring and with a few minor pockets of rot. Need to work on my technique i think as a few scuff marks but first time milling alone so very happy. Sorry about photo quality, damaged my camera lens. James:thumbup:
