  1. Marcus you'll have to pm me ya email, and ill forward u the catologue. No probs. Steve, are you not able to buy in softwood cord and miser into planks for the kindlet or does this not pay?
  2. Steve, according to catalogue mostly sawn oak for sale, but just to let you know there's another auction of a bankrupt furniture maker with large amounts of sawn wood for sale. Can't remember if its the week after or 2 weeks after. Different place but not too far. I'll dig out info and let u know if your interested. I'm very interested in the mill myself, but unfortunately I can't make the auction, I'm told its a unused lt20 2010 model, so it wont be the one from ebay. From my experience if this paticular auction( I go to most) this mill won't go for a song but should be good value. I've only about 4k to chuck at a millvat the mo( damn property sales) so that prices me out. Id be very interested if you do go in what it sells for, if you would be kind enough to let me know. James
  3. I have a similar mill to labucheron running on two 051s powerheads(89cc) I also run one of these powerheads in a 24" Alaskan with out a problem.
  4. Not really familar with those saws but what I can work out there 85cc?. If this is the case you'd be ok with a 24" Alaskan , 30" bar and granberg chain, this is going to cost you in the region of £300 from rob d on here. Assuming you need a bar too. His sight is chainsaw bars . Com. He's in the banner ads in the right of thus site. If you register with him and pm him on here he Will give you a 10% arbtalj discount. I'm sure he Will be along for some expert advice soon enough. Don't worry about spending a little money as when you start you won't be able to stop. James
  5. If that's what you have available then that would be fine.
  6. What saws you got?
  7. There's loads Steve. A retirement sale and comprehensive at that. If u pm me your email ill send you full catalogue.
  8. Wouldn't be too concerned on wood choice, nothin.g too precious or valuable though. The straighter the grain and cleaner the woor the easier it Will be to work. Obviously its nice if your bracket and shelf are the same wood.
  9. What is the price of your 40 big j. Is it trailered, have any hydraulics. James
  10. It's a forestry auction. Marcus There's always the option of deciding an upper limit and phoning through a bid. U wouldn't even have to attend and u May get a bargain.
  11. Ah nice work but still fire related. Lovely mantle, would make good firewood I think;) Is that oversized laburnum?
  12. It's in gt. Missenden Clive, I have emailed you the catalogue, loads of good stuff.
  13. Top work guys:thumbup:
  14. Ok. To start with keep it simple. Learn how to use basic tools and cut straight etc. First project I did with beginners in courses was a set of shelf brackets(see pic). This teaches you to cut square and straight lines, follow curves and is excellent for building confidence. Essentially two bits of wood glued and screwed together. Very easy, but still perfectly functional if you go wrong. Project no.2 to follow
  15. Brick acid won't damage slate. If your concerned test it on a corner, but it won't damage slate.
  16. That would be one expensive lump of firewoood. Have you ever used a piece of wood for anything else?
  17. Very rarely come up second hand mate. There's an auction next Saturday in bucks that has a unused 2010 lt20 for sale. Would be interesting to see what it goes for. Not sure where you are but if your interested I can email you full catalogue. James
  18. Definately not ok mate. Stick it in ya lawn mower or something.
  19. Here's some Alder burr coasters I made. Cork backed. Do you have any experience in carpentry? I used to teach beginers carpentry courses so could give you a good idea of projects to teach the fundamentals? Do u have many tools?
  20. Surely in an organised country these would be collected and used at a power station. How much do you guess that lot weigh?
  21. Evening, I aquired this piece of walnut a while ago, and I pulled it out the pile for my next project. Walnut crotch fork. 1.7mx1.1m at widest. Was thinking a large coffee table top or something similar. Problem is that its not too flat. 12mm higher around area of fork. So would you just go at it with planes/sanders until you had it somewhere near flat on top, or would you c Rip into 3, joint , thickness , and biscuit joint back together or something else? Or can you think of a better project for it? I really love the part where the branch has snapped off, but am wondering if its too jagged for an living room table. And I guess I Will have to fit some dutchmans in the. Split to stop it moving. It's been planked around 30 years as best I can work out so should be good and dry. Thanks James
  22. I believe your ring is a lot thinner than that table which really limits your options to things like tabletops or getting creative with garden furniture. My concern is that you should concentrate on trying to season the ring succsesfully and not working it. There's nothing worse than spending time making a quality product only to watch it fall apart as it dries. James
  23. Awesome table, was it mostly chainsaw work?
  24. I wouldn't mill till october because oak is one of the hardest woods to season, if you mill it now, the extra heat around would cause it to dry too quickly causing surface checking, shake and warping, I'm sure you can do it now if you can control drying conditions a little, but its recommended not to. You certainly don't want any raw sunlight on the boards for any amount of time. I would mill first whatever you need or whatever you feel you can market the best. Depending how big your logs are, I May try to take some boards off the edges to leave a square can't for post or beams, but this is by no means an expert opinion and only a thought. I'm sure the easier way to start would be to saw a log into full width 2" boards. James
  25. I would pay 40 if I was closer but Alec is more expert than me and his estimation of useable timber probably more accurate. Its 1.5 hours drive for me, and like you say the diesel would kill it.
