  1. Not a huge amount to be honest but i have done a lot of cut to waste thinning, a few clear fells (not production but for development) although the timber was taken for paper mills etc and plenty plots and tariffs.
  2. I could be interested for sure. Whats the crack? fell, sned, cut to length and stack?
  3. Maybe we should call them part failures, unless its a limb that hasnt snapped off completely and is touching the ground to start walking then maybe adaption to load would work:001_huh:
  4. when the eye gets blocked on the small ring your throwline is still through the big ring, when you pull your rope down with the cambium saver the big ring goes up over the branch taking the throwline with it (doubled over). Its hard to explain without pictures so its probably best if you just try it and see.
  5. If it wasnt for that mother nature we would all be out of a job, in fact we would all not exist!
  6. Ah yea i forgot about that stuff, you can flatten that to the ground and it will bounce back up again as far as i am aware. It was just starting to get used when i escaped from the utilities side of things. But DONT try it anyone
  7. this is great stuff man i am loving it
  8. ABC cables ARE insulated and are only used on LV circuits as far as i know but that does not mean you can do what you want around them, you still have to adhere to the rules and dont be stupid.
  9. a couple of measly offerings from me, first one was a small Sycamore that lost half its crown to the recent high winds. The last pic was from a line of about 25 Lime trees mostly all had snapped branches of some sort again from the recent gales.
  10. Not done much today except take the wifes cousin and boyfriend on a tour around the Fife coast. I also stopped myself from smashing a kids parents face into all the broken bottles the little asswipe had thrown onto a sandy beach where people run around barefooted grrrrr. I just picked up what i found and threw it in the bin growling and cursing under my breath.
  11. Well thats all he needed cos we took it down a few months ago
  12. I dont like them personally, i have seen them used and also seen the plastic bits broken and for the price i would just laugh and say no way. a simple cambium saver does just the same job and if you want it to come down controlled then all you do is attach your throwline to the spliced eye and pull your rope through as normal holding on to the throwline to control the decent (you do need twice the length of throwline for this) simples no? why complicate things i say.
  13. Sometimes the owners will take matters into their own hands in these circumstances... Here is a few pics of a job we had to take down the tree that the owner wasnt allowed to do before so he did this to change the councils mind i guess I would prefer that the wall was fixed without harming the tree but if the owner wants rid of it then he will find a way
  14. That sucks big time! get the snipers in.
  15. I had the same problem and started a thread on it as well (after i had already contacted the power company) here is the link to the thread if you are interested http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/utility-arboriculture/30945-what-would-actually-happen-if.html
  16. no need to cut off the ring, just attach the pulley with a biner to the small ring. Good idea to get a play around with the spiderjack first but they do take a few days to get used to and get the full picture:thumbup1:
  17. Spent enough cash on the spiderjack i aint throwing any more cash at them! I use a normal cambium saver with a pulley, no need for anything fancy and costly!
  18. Fantastic thread David as usual, great pics and magical trees Guess i will be on the hunt for some ents now as well, seems i found another thread to stick my penny worth in
  19. oh yea and that video is cool but has been well rehearsed so dont be fooled by it.
  20. I recently got one and think its fantastic. It self tends when you have about 5 to 10 feet of rope below you and it is real easy to use. I would however say it is crap when dismantling the trunk but for pruning jobs its the dogs.
  21. yea big nasty cement filled cavity! i saw one once that was bricked up, yea proper house bricks! it did look cool though with the tree trying to close around the bricks. I will need to go dig out a photo if i still have it...
  22. Wow those sculptures are the dogs! wish i was artistic like that.
