  3. I would be interested to find out what conclusion you come to anyway, keep it up
  4. I understand that perfectly but the point is we are increasingly becoming a nation of pussys, scared of our own shadow and terrified that something will happen. The fact is that accidents do happen but where does the wrapping stop? next we will have to put on body armour and a helmet just to step off the pavement, or do we do away with pavements just in case someone falls off it! I just think we need to draw a line and say ok enough is enough now things are getting silly, which they are on many fronts. Anyway thats another argument and should be made elsewhere. Sorry for the slight derailment.
  5. That would have been my guess as well but wasnt willing to say it first:blushing: Is there any way of detecting these from the bark side? if so then you could be on to a winner rob:thumbup: Unfortunately i have not seen these on limbs but only on the trunk so it may not be exactly what your looking for unless i am wrong.
  6. Very true up to a certain point, I hate the fact that we all have to be wrapped in cotton wool these days for fear of anything happening. In light of what has happened and the description of the tree now then it may be the best option to fell but not being there to see it makes it almost impossible to call. These things are unpredictable but there is also a lot of situations that ARE predictable and those are the ones that need acting on. If Benedmonds called a fell then maybe thats what should be done as he has seen the tree first hand, we cant just say no because we like the look of it. I do however think that "fell it" is called far too often and needs to be looked into. The problem i see is that those people with the responsibility would rather take the flak for felling a tree than the flak for the death of a person, rightly so but also i think its not right that this IS the situation. Seems we are stuck in a catch 22 situation at the moment and i for one dont know how to stop it.
  7. Hmm thats strange, is there 2 threads with exactly the same name? i found it again in another thread of the same name with over 30 pages and this one has 6. Oh well its done now in duplicate
  8. I was sure i posted this here already but i cant see it so here goes again.... Case of mistaken identity?
  9. Damned good question rob Often seen these but never studied what or why. Anyone care to enlighten us?
  10. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/picture-forum/31477-looking-tree-damage-pictures-3.html#post509928 here is one you might find interesting
  11. You should browse around the site some more, there is already a few threads with this subject and you could pm the postee if you need more info.
  12. You should put photos up and some measurements so the guys can have an idea of what your selling
  13. whats wrong with highlifts? i think they are great:thumbup: meh file guides shmile guides:001_tt2:
  14. Get the big felling bar cos the other mickey mouse one is no good unless its always small stuff your cutting. At least 1 high lift wedge and a selection of others and dont forget something to hit them with.
  15. Thats a baby! i dont have any pics but there is a couple in Sardegna i have seen that are at least two or three times the size of that if not more.
  16. if i could i would buy everything:001_tt2: Getting a job would be more important than everything else! Are you working yet? Get yourself some experience first and then you will know what you need to buy to suit your own way of working. Failing that buy everything
  17. I have never heard of it either, thats why i was asking why Graham thought it was dog damage. Is this a common thing then? in my 20 years on the tools thats the first i have heard of it. Maybe the Neds up here have not needed to get their dogs to attack trees when there are so many people around for them to attack instead:thumbdown:
  18. A case of mistaken identity maybe?
  19. Great photos as ever David:thumbup: That first one if i saw it i would have put down as some insect having done some funky egg laying:001_rolleyes:
  20. like a bunch of old fishwives us lot! Well done it looks like theres plenty more catching up to do than i thought:001_rolleyes:
  21. well thats just piss poor!
  22. Why would dogs do this? i am guessing kids.
  23. Why? Once the branches get out of your reach then hire in a professional or risk a nasty fall from ladders (i hate ladders by the way) If you do insist on doing it yourself from ladders then make sure you and the ladder are secured to the tree.
  24. OOOH OUCH!! that looks nasty! i hope he gets better soon and heals up well.
  25. He did the lunge already thats why i posted the video:biggrin: Welcome Laurent i hope you dont mind that i posted your video i just thought it was cool and there was a good unintentional lunge at the end, which was why i posted it here. Maybe that was a mistake:blushing: we all got a good laugh anyway at marks antics
