  1. The heaviest would be say 90cm midway. Pi x 45 squared times 6m lenght =3.8m2 at a little less than a tonne per m2 so say 3750kg If I half that the halves weigh 1875kg so if I can get a digger that'll lift a tonne close up I should be ok, presuming I lift one end on then coax the other end on. What would one of those tracked loaders lift? Waiting for dry weather is not really an option, they need to be gone by end of march at the latest (I need them for construction at home) Best hope is a good frost... I need minimum destruction in the field as it's got winter wheat in.
  2. There's a little spinney in the middle of a field of wheat in which there are a dozen or so oaks of between 40cm to 100cm dbh, to be cut to 6m lenghts. If needed I can rip the bigger ones in half as they'll be milled anyway. Access is through the field only so unless we get a decent frost period (it seems like we can't count on that?) I was thinking to use a three ton digger to drag them to the edge of the field 100 yards away then load them on the trailer.
  3. I've lost a cow to an adder bite. Poor thing must have stood on the adder with her head low down whilst grazing. Her head and neck swelled up so much she choked. I farmed an area with a very good reptile population and that was the only victim ever. I'd still never hurt one of them though.
  4. What would a three ton machine lift, say at half reach? I have some oak stems to load onto a trailer and was wondering just how much machine I'd need to hire?
  5. I can help, will cost you about £375+delivery. You'll need a little patience if you want one though, I'd bring you one back from the Netherlands. I've done so before for other people (including off ArbTalk).
  6. In the Netherlands we use shovels/spades shaped like this: With a slightly curved handle that makes you bend less, a T handle and a "blade" design that has a "spine" that makes it a lo stronger without having to be much heavier.
  7. Same here, from ms170 to ms880 with a couple of huskies in between. Just pulled my 346 off the shelf where it had been since before christmas 2012 and it fired second pull.
  8. Greetings followers, Now that I have converted so many of you to the Ripeur 2 gloves, it is time to reveal my evil masterplan. All the gloves have tiny little robots in them, they'll be inside your skin as soon as you've worn them for more than two minutes and I can activate them (and thereby you!) at will. You are now my private army of thornproof warriors and victory will be mine! Mwaaahhhahaahahahahaa... <-Maniacal laugh Oh, and some good news too. They now sell a size 11 for the larger hand. I've been struggling with the 10's I'll report back on wether these are a better fit or not (I've found their sizing to be a bit on the small side)
  9. I'd ask you for £20 off that price unless you removed both the stickers without any trace remaining. If not I'd want the £10 per sticker advertising money:sneaky2: Had a bit of a row with an audi dealer once who'd put a few of his stickers on my car without permission. refused to give me any money for advertising his business. short story: small claims court (dutch equiv off) £500 off the bill... Unless per prior arrangement I find it annoying beyond belief that people seem to think it's ok to deface my property to advertise their business. When I work in somebody's garden, how would they feel If I spray-painted my website across their brickwork?
  10. Without trying to be unfriendly.... I don't think you want a sawmill at all, you just immensely enjoy the delightful agony of indecisiveness:biggrin:
  11. I'd want a single cab Landcruiser with the 4.2 td. 7 speed auto-box from a merc. Full exo-skelleton, bull bars etc. Extra long wheel-base. Both axles steering, selectable like in a telehandler. Hiab mounted just behind the cab, operable from the drivers seat with enough power and reach to operate in front of the vehicle if needed. On the move adjustable tyre pressure. 6m bed turntable trailer. built in coffee machine...
  12. Yesssss! So, this transfer case, can I use it to transfer money, or does it have summink to do with football?
  13. I just had a cup of tea, Earl Grey with one sugar and a little splash of milk. Or am I missing something?
  14. Could you use a few of these and free-climb every tree?
  15. 23.765t And could you post some pictures of the prizes? Some serious goodies like that would really get the game going!
  16. 2001 Rover 75, 230K 1994 LR 110 300tdi 40K...
  17. Without pics it didn't happen.... Sounds like you had fun though?
  18. That's really sad, I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure he'll rest well after a lifetime of logging.
  19. Perhaps Chris Gagen can help you? He's in Essex (but not too far south) and I've bought some of him before for fencing materials.
  20. They are magnificent!
  21. Perhaps watching less porn would ease the strain a little?
  22. Seems to work OK, and I noticed it now knows my user name instead of calling me "anon7863"
  23. Have a look through this thread for a discussion on your saw and how to tell the two apart: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/milling-forum/66993-after-milling-saw-sale.html
  24. The tractor would have been able to stop, turn its engine off, restart it and drive on without any issues. The LR was right on the edge of it's abilities, any hickups and it would have been in deep trouble. See, I can argue that quite reasonably I think:biggrin: Even if the driver literally knows every manhole (which I reckon is highly unlikely) there are trees, and other obstacles the flow of the river might have put in it's path. There is no road-going landrover I've ever seen that has the capabilities of a tractor. Just the sheer mass of a tractor (a jcb will weigh more that 3x as much as the lr) keeps it from flowing away infinitely more so than the car. We don't know why they drove through, but unless it was an emergency I reckon it was a reckless, selfish and foolish act, looked like fun though:biggrin:
  25. That's definitely the most annoying video I've seen all year:biggrin: I have ported an ms180. It's got: an american ms210 carb, fully adjustable and it seems that just the carb swap gave it more power alone. it has the exhaust drilled out and the louvres opened right up, it sounds right funny, like a very angry kitten. Then the inlet and outlet ports were widened as far as possible and I made them a little squarer (there's not much room to make them bigger so squarer made more flow) I also polished the ports to a near mirror finish as the casting was quite rough. The result of all that faffing about is mainly a noisier saw. It makes me giggle when I start it:001_smile: It has a tiny bit more power but there is so little to start with that 10 or 20% more is still very little power... I might have a vid somewhere.
