  1. Depends a lot on scale, the French do a good bit of agroforestry, but it's intercropping rows of trees in large scale arable mainly. There's a chap near Peterborough (who's name is in my head, just hiding in a dark corner) whos doing large scale apple trees in organic arable at 24m spacing with good preliminary results Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app

    Wages

Why? We're roughly equally qualified, do the same hours, and put in the same effort. I put in the time and effort to get the job, communicate with customers, quote etc, I get paid for that to the same rough hourly rate. I bring more and more expensive kit, but the cost and depreciation etc are factored into each job. So why would I need to earn more? Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app

    Wages

I pay my subby £150/day. Self employed, working sun up till sundown (mostly winter work so not really long days) For this I get Full Commitment, fully equipped, fully motivated, on time, endless energy, no whining... If a job can't sustain such wages, I don't do the job. I earn about the same, most often a touch more, sometimes a bit less. I've had cheaper labour, but it made the same job take longer, less pleasant and take more organisation time and hassle. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Sycamore doesn't like sharing, so with its big leaves (extra big when coppiced or flailed regularly!) and vigorous growth it outcompetes most other species, hence the gap either side of it. It thus thins the hedge out, creating gaps at the bottom. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  5. To be pedantic, there is no such thing as CE approval... Manufacturers Can declare CE conformity, meaning they reckon it meets all the relevant specs and regs, but there is no test, no approving body etc. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. Don't know how the Italian reacts to coppicing, I planted ours for the columnar upright shape to function as windbreaks. I'd have thought they'd just put up massive amounts of twigs? How about robinia, coppices well, burns superb, fixes nitro, and can be a superb timber when a bit bigger Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. Jeep grand cherokee crd Better off road, lovely v6 German engine and box. Plush as! Much more car for your penny! Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. I don't understand this? Normally a larger diameter (the chain) would expand more than a smaller one (the bar). Isn't this why a chain goes slack, when both bar and chain get heated? I thought the theory was that when both receive the same amount of heat, the chain will expand more (coz larger) and thus contract more again upon cooling. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. It depends mainly on the hitch. The more modern ones with a big gas strut in them apply many times more force than the overrun mechanism. Tis extra force is to try and maintain brake effectiveness in reverse. With enough force applied (loaded trailer, broken away backwards down a slope for instance) the auto reverse mechanism will still release the brakes. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. Cheers Mr Dyer! I'll order one in the next few days. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. Above statement re how trailer brakes work isn't accurate. On most trailers the reverse deactivation mechanism of the brakes is in the drums. The shoes pivot away from the drums in reverse, disengaging them. The handbrake pulls on the selfsame cable as the overrun mech, so in reverse most trailer brakes don't work, neither overrun or hand. 12. Yes, but not really that much better. So unless you make a great many, I wouldn't bother swapping chains especially not if you don't already have a ripping chain. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  13. You can build the material back up with suitable welding techniques (hardfacing). It can be made as good or better than new. http://www.esab.co.uk/gb/en/products/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.productsbycategory&catId=139 Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  14. At a guesstimate, how many times would the pack sharpen a 42" 404 ripping chain? Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  15. However short it takes, spending 30 minutes idle, then using working time to roll up is unforgivable. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  16. Briquettes are not all the same. As mentioned above, with enough pressure, low moisture content and small fibre size the lignin in the wood is enough to bind them, no added adhesives. So rather different from burning chipboard. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  17. I had a 3.3 patrol once, it was the torquiest beasty in history! It once pulled a broken tractor towing a full artic trailer of silage bales. In high range, to 60kmh, 5th gear no problem! Got written off after a clio (!) rammed the front axle clean off... Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  18. When it comes to trailers being heavier than the towing vehicle, artic tractor units weigh but a fraction of their trailers, and can happily tug 50 tons if you're in a less nannying country, and still several times their own weight here. It's all about being in full control over the trailer brakes... Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  19. Damn! That will result in this valuable thread being deleted, just when I'm in the market for some muồng kèm đồ chÆ¡i xúc cát theo số lượng cho các khu vui chÆ¡i, các công ty chuyên kinh doanh đồ chÆ¡i trẻ em, cÃ, I've just run out! Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  20. Use a coin no bigger than the ring of rivets around the sprocket, then clamp it right on there. Just remember to make allowance for the extra space away from the chain if you like your timber cut flat... Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  21. Same! I drove past as well yesterday on my way back down from the black Isle, but alas, only smaller saws with me. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  22. In the Netherlands (not UK I know, but still eu and similar-ish regs) you can adapt a 100 cruiser to tow over 6t. Electric sensors on the pedals, uprated rear suspension, uprated hitch etc. There's also the b+e artics, up to 16!T gtw on a b+e licence.... Back here, there are fully legal electronic brake systems fitted to motorhomes with tow cars. (which are trailers, and always have brakes, all fitted brakes must work regardless of weight) Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  23. My mate has three 36"(maybe 42"?) on his tractor. Two at the front one on the back. A thousand burning suns! All are eBay cheeapo's and have been faultless for two years now. Needed relays for them as a few hundred watts. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
  24. Polar fleece (as in fleece jacket stuff) absorbs oil but not water. It's good for emergency use, oil doesn't like coming out of it again though, but if you're in a pickle it's a good substitute for a proper spill kit. (which you ought to have on board anyway...) 25. Mr Blair sir, you're an inspiration! I admire the way you can look at your life and the way you lead it as if from an outside observer's perspective. Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app
